I have to admit, I was somewhat excited about the X-Files movie when it was first announced, especially with both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovney returning as Scully and Mulder, respectively. And then the movie’s promo campaigns started, and what I was seeing — well, look, there’s a reason the movie stunk up the box office. It just wasn’t The X-Files that I remembered, or indeed, a lot of other people remembered and wanted. Where were my alien conspiracies? Government cover-ups? Misunderstood mutants? None of that. Just a lame serial killer movie on snow. Blah. It was like Chris Carter set out to make an X-Files movie for everyone but the fans. Anyways, according to the film’s producer Frank Spotnitz, you can blame the movie’s failure on “The Dark Knight”, and not on, you know, a stupid movie title and a generally generic serial killer storyline. Spotnitz tells Bloody-Disgusting.com this: “We were all a bit disappointed, we had some indication [...]

Really? The Powers That Be are actually considering a third installment in the “X-Files” franchise, despite the beating the second film took at the box office? Apparently so. Or at least, according to some guy who knows some guy, who wrote in to Dread Central telling them about it. As DC states, I think this is just wishful thinking, especially considering how awful “X-Files 2: I Want to Believe” did. Seriously, really? A sequel to a sequel that no one wanted in the first place, and those who got it didn’t even liked it? Wow. Anyways, here’s that email someone sent to Dread Central: “I understand – there was room for improvement … and there still might be. I work for Screaming Death Monkey and Spotnitz – the TERRIFIC Frank Spotnitz – told us this week that the team have already spoken about the next X-Files film. It’s likely the next release will go direct to DVD – but they’re [...]

When David Lynch’s quirky and often surreal “Twin Peaks” ended after just two seasons in 1991, I didn’t think anything could take its place. But I was wrong. In 1993, Chris Carter unleashed “The X-Files” upon the world. It was the answer to my, and million of others’, prayers. Inspired by the 1970s TV series “The Night Stalker,” Carter placed two very different FBI agents at the center of his creation: Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is a believer in little green men and things that live under the stairs, because he had witnessed the abduction of his younger sister Samantha by aliens; Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is a skeptic and a woman of science. In the stand-alone episodes, they took on fat, flesh and brain-eating humans, vampires, firestarters, parasitic twins, mutant children, serial killers, and much, much more. In the interconnected stories – these provided the show with its mythology – they confronted government conspiracies and cover-ups, orchestrated and overseen [...]

Hey, in case you haven’t heard, the second “X-Files” movie, “I want to Believe”, which features the long-awaited reunion of Dana Scully and her paranoid partner Fox Mulder, opens today in theaters all across America. Now the question is, is this the sequel we’ve all been waiting for ever since 1998′s somewhat incomplete “Fight the Future”? Not so much, says the movie critics at Rotten Tomatoes, where the film currently has (as of this writing) a fresh rating (i.e. thumbs up) of 28%. 28%!!! To put that in a little perspective, Paris Hilton’s combined movies have a rating of 25% freshness rating at RT. The most common complaint about the movie seems to be the one thing director/writer Chris Carter was aiming for — a standalone “X-Files” story (i.e. Monster of the Week) that wouldn’t confuse non-fans of the long-running series. Well Chris, looks like it worked — the movie didn’t confuse non-fans, but it also didn’t have the fans [...]

Okay, I’m filing this one under, “Chris Carter really wants to get our goat, so he’s made this crap up just for that purpose”, and no one’s going to convince me otherwise. Besides the fact that the trailers and pictures I’ve seen from the movie, and I’ve seen tons, bears no resemblance to what happens here at all, the whole idea that Scully and Mulder have been involved for the last six years just reeks of fake. Then again, the person who claims to have seen the movie, and sent in this spoiler, did poo-poo the film’s serial killer plot, and would Carter really diss his own movie’s plot just to throw out some misinformation about Scully and Mulder? Hmm… Anyways, here are the supposed SPOILERS. Take them for what you will. (via) - Mulder and Scully have not been separated the past 6 years. The first shippy scene has them spooning in bed.
Instead of going on about how I still don’t like the subtitle for the “X-Files” movie sequel, I’m going to go ahead and skip the griping and move on to telling you that we have eight new images from the movie, most of them featuring Mulder all by his lonesome doing his investigation what-have-you. There’s also a picture of Scully apparently in front of some medical types, perhaps trying to get back to her roots (remember, she’s a doctor) post-Mulder and the X-Files wackiness? Who knows. Check out the new images below. Mulder and Scully re-unites to help the FBI solve a paranormal case. According to director Chris Carter, the movie will be a stand-alone story, and not deal with the show’s existing alien mythos or conspiracies. The X-Files opens up again July 25. see the rest of the “X-File: I Want to Believe” at our movie gallery

Yahoo! Movies is currently hosting an exclusive two-minute clip from “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” (seriously, just typing that subtitle makes me feel dumber), which they say is the opening scene from the movie. It doesn’t actually look like an opening scene — it has a bunch of FBI agents, led by Billy Connolly (playing a psychic) going up and down a frozen ice patch, while the scene is intercut with a woman is being stalked at her house, apparently at another time and place. Or something. Eh, who knows, Chris Carter and company are so desperate to hide every shred of info about their precious movie in the hopes of making it uber secret and thus more “in demand”, it borders on being desperate. Mulder and Scully chase stuff around the big screen July 15.
Let’s face it, if you were a fan of “The X-Files” when it was still a series on FOX, all you’re really waiting for is that moment when Scully and Mulder finally gets together again after all these years. And after that? Well, there’s a story about how some serial killer is abducting women in some cold ass place and Billy Connelly shows up as a psychic who helps out. Plus, rapper Xzibit plays a barely credible FBI agent, and Amanda Peet has a co-starring role as a hottie FBI agent, and is just a tad more credible. Still no official plot for the movie as of yet. Apparently Chris Carter is going to play hard to get right up to the very end. Good luck there, chief. Here’s the Russian trailer for “X-Files 2: I Want to Believe”.
At the beginning of this new “X-Files 2: I want to Believe” trailer, Billy Connelly’s character, a psychic, describes what happened to a girl who was abducted, as Mulder prods him on in the background. After which, Connelly’s character asks Mulder, “You believe in this, then?” (i.e. the psychic stuff). That was pretty funny, I thought. In any case, here’s the second trailer for “X-Files 2″. Or, I guess, the first official one? Either/or. Mulder and Scully returns in a standalone “X-Files” movie.
Three new “X-Files 2″ images have surfaced on the Internet. Some are official stills that FOX has released and some may not be — I really have no idea, since the “X-Files 2″ movie has been so closely guarded, to the point of being detrimental to the film in my opinion. To be honest with you, I don’t know why they’re playing so hard to get, especially for a movie based on a TV show that many people stopped watching a long time ago. In any case, there are a couple of nice ones, including our first official look at rapper Xzibit, who plays an FBI agent (if you can believe that) in the movie. Another picture has Mulder and Scully looking very comfortable (below), and seems like something out of a magazine photoshoot instead of a still from the “X-Files 2″ movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if that turned out to be the case later on. In any case, [...]

Yes, that’s the actual title. It’s not April Fools day or anything, although I wish it were. Seriously, “I Want to Believe”? You’ve got to be kidding me, Chris Carter. According to The Associated Press, “Distributor 20th Century Fox signed off on the title Wednesday,” and Carter officially revealed it to the AP. More: The title is a familiar phrase for fans of the series that starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents chasing after aliens and supernatural happenings. “I Want to Believe” was the slogan on a poster Duchovny’s UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson’s Dana Scully worked.
As it turns out, that teaser poster we posted a few days ago really was the official “X-Files 2″ teaser poster. Go figure. Chris Carter and the gang at “X-Files” has been on such a whirlwind tour of misinformation, releasing faux “leaked” pictures and what have you, that it’s impossible to know what’s real and what’s propaganda anymore. Frankly, I don’t think it helps the movie at all; seriously, guys, you’ve been out of the game for what, a decade now? And you come back and play hard to get? Eh. The poster again, below, just in case you missed it the first time around. It’s… okay. Get probed July 25, 2008.

“X-Files 2″ director Chris Carter was at the Paleyfest in Hollywood last night, where he showed off this second trailer for “The X-Files 2″, which is set to premiere along with “Iron Man” when it opens May 2nd, 2008. But hey, why wait that long? We have the bootleg trailer below. You see more of an interaction between Mulder and Scully (he goes to her for help, to join him on the hunt for whatever it is they’re hunting), saying, “I need you on this with me,” to which she replies, “That’s what scares me.” It does kinda look like they went on with their lives just fine after the series finale, and is only now coming back together. Also, it seems that Carter was right, this looks like a standalone “X-Files” episode, which may or may not be a good thing. Will fans really respond to an “X-Files” movie without all the mythology background? We’ll just have to wait [...]
