Uber sci-fi TV producer Ron Moore recently spilled more details about his upcoming Virtuality, his new sci-fi show for FOX, that would star former New Amsterdam leading man Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The pilot, set to be directed by “Hancock’s” Peter Berg, is set to shoot at the end of next month, according to Moore, who also promises that this will be very “different” from his stint on Battlestar Galactica. So, uh, Ron, I won’t have to run to the showers after every episode? Fabulous!

One of the suckiest thing about the FOX network is that, unless a show is a bona fide hit, they’ll shut it down faster than you can say, “Stupid FOX, why don’t you at least give it a chance first?” Case in point: New Amsterdam, starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as an immortal cop. Sure, the show was probably too procedural, but overall it was a fresh take on an old, stale formula (the cop show), and deserved a chance. Well in any case, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is no longer on New Amsterdam, he has landed at another FOX sci-fi show, this time Virtuality. Oh damn, another FOX show? Crap.

Battlestar Galactica chief Ron Moore’s new sci-fi show on FOX, the space-faring Virtuality has added five more actors to its cast, which already includes James D’Arcy, Kerry Bishe and Jimmi Simpson. The biggest name in the bunch to genre fans will be Sienna Guillory (pictured, left), while the other four names include Joy Bryant, Nelson Lee, Omar Metwally and Ritchie Coster. Sienna Guillory played Jill Valentine in “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and more recently, was the female lead in “Eragon”.

Ron Moore’s virtual-reality-gone-amok new space show Virtuality has nabbed its leading man in actor James D’Arcy, a mostly British TV actor who has had a couple of big movies, including “Master and Commander” with Russell Crowe and last year’s “Rise” with Lucy Liu. Virtuality, for FOX, is being described as a “back door pilot” — that is, FOX will foot the bill for a 2-hour movie, and if the movie does well, then they’ll make a TV series out of it. If not, they’ll write it off as a loss and move on.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the FOX network has just greenlit a two-hour back door pilot for a new sci-fi TV series from Battlestar Galactica Ron Moroe (pictured, left) called Virtuality. The show has a great premise, and I can only hope that Moore’s involvement (the project was originally developed by producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun) doesn’t mean more of the same. Battlestar Galactica may have broken grounds, especially for a sci-fi show, but I’m not sure if I can get behind another depressing TV show set aboard a spaceship. One is enough, right?
