I have my issues with TNT’s “Falling Skies” TV show, and frankly, the only reason I’ll even bother with the second season when it premieres this Summer is because, damn, what else is there on TV? There’s a pretty big shortage of quality sci-fi shows, so I guess we better appreciate what we have, right? Terry O’Quinn joining the cast should make the show a little more bearable, even if it is just for a few lousy eps. The former “Lost” star, who has been making time on another beach in “Hawaii Five-0″, will be trading in the fun and sun for the battlefields of “Falling Skies” in the show’s Season 2. O’Quinn is scheduled to show up for a two-episode arc (the last two episodes of the coming season) as a former history professor and mentor to the show’s lead, Tom Mason, played by Noah Wylie. Hopefully it’ll be more than a, “Hey, remember when I used to teach [...]

I’ve considered doing an episode-by-episode review of this show ever since it premiered this Summer, but never could summon the effort to do it. For one, the show is just not very good. And two, I would just end up ripping on it because, cripes, this is one bad show. It’s such a poorly written and directed mess, that I would have preferred if the whole thing was just a drama about a former professor living in the woods with a cute doctor and the professor’s kids hanging around. But instead this is a sci-fi alien invasion TV show. Here’s the thing: I will gladly accept the concept of the alien invasion. That’s a must, right? You either say Yes to that and move on, or you turn the channel. So yeah, I’ll accept that the aliens employ what looks like a few hundred skitters and a few hundred mechs to take over the planet. You rarely (RARELY) see the [...]

ABC might have taken “V” from us, but TNT’s given us “Falling Skies”, and if you were a little shy about committing to a show that might get yanked from you again, have no fear, because TNT has officially renewed the show for a second season. “Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing,” said Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT. “We’re reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.” The second season will consist of 10 more episodes. But for some reason, I’m not hearing a whole lot of buzz about it, which is a shame, because a show like this is something I’m going to eat up with a big ol spoon. It won’t premiere until the Summer, starting on June 19, but until then, check out a five-minute sneak peek at the first episode. At the center of FALLING SKIES is Tom Mason (Wyle), a Boston history professor whose family has been torn apart. His wife was killed shortly after the initial attack, and one of his three sons has been taken captive by the aliens for some unknown purpose. Tom must now put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as second in command of the 2nd Massachusetts, a regiment of resistance fighters protecting a large group of [...]

This is the kind of genre show that I just KNOW I’m going to love, and to have it appear on a network like Fox, or ABC, or NBC would have just doomed it to a struggling first year. On TNT, meanwhile, it’ll get EVERY CHANCE to grow and succeed. Man, I’m glad it’s on TNT! Anyways, here’s a new TV spot for the show via Vulture.
For those of you neurally challenged this morning, let me assist. Steven Spielberg has this thing for aliens and he thought it was a good idea to make a series, soon to begin a whopping pre-authorized 10 episode run on TNT, where Noah Wyle (E.R.) and Moon Bloodgood (Goddess, Terminator) pack up, head to the hills and try to survive an alien invasion. We have the first live picture from the show, illustrating Noah’s steely eyed determination not to let Moon fall into the evil clutches of those bodice ripping, tentacled, bug eyed bastards! The Robert Rodat, of “Saving Private Ryan” fame, wrote the scripts. This is a mighty fine thing kids. I’m thinking this is going to be some must see Science Fiction. Block it in.
