The good blokes over at Disney have released four new images from the set of Joseph Kosinski’s “Tron: Legacy”, showing castmembers like Olivia Wilde and other fellas in their black pleather best. Check them out below.
Sam Flynn (Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade — a signal that could only come from his father– he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a cyber universe — a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.

The new TRON stars Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen and Olivia Wilde. Will Olivia have pale blue piping? Probably overkill. Thanks Collider.

Okay, so it’s a pretty shitty bootleg version that someone put up on YouTube. The official high-def version will be making its way online tomorrow, March 8, after which we will swap it, but until then, try to make out the “Tron” stuff from the darkness. Hey, it’s not pretty, but it’s better than nothing, right? Glad to see Bruce Boxleitner back in action on the big screen. Or at least, I think that’s Bruce. Kinda hard to tell, but the voice sounds like him… Update: The non-bootleg version has now been added.
Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years.
With their “Tron” sequel due out sometime in December of this year, Disney isn’t quite sitting on their laurels waiting for the money to roll in on neon lightcycles. The studio is already developing an animated series to be based on the franchise, as well as a new “Avengers” animated TV series that will make use of their recently acquired Marvel Universe catalog.
Geared towards kids age 6-14, the plan is to precede “Tron” with another project, a 10-part “Tron” micro-series premiering in fall 2011 on Disney XD.
It’s funny, my nephews don’t even know what “Tron” is, but I’m sure they could care less as long as there are shiny lightcycles zipping around onscreen.

There’s a new TRON: Legacy shot out today, continuing the irritating trickle of media from what will probably be the “Avatar” of this year. In this shot we see what mysteries may lie beneath the dust covers on curious old school arcade machines.
I spent a ton of time in places that looked like the arcade in the shot. Makes me remember how much fun it was slamming coins in machines surrounded by other nerds and the Vegas sounds of a humming arcade. I spent a ton of time in a place called Wizards in downtown Ottawa with my best friend Lee. Was it better than sitting on my couch playing on an Xbox? You better believe it bucko. Thanks Collider for the shot.

The boys at LatinoReview has a description of the full “Tron: Legacy” trailer that was recently screened to a select group of lucky individuals who participated in that whole Tron viral scavenger whatchamaccallit. Anyways, head over to LR to read the full account, but here’s the gist of the trailer:
At two minutes and nineteen seconds, out first real glimpse at Tron Legacy is a tease, nothing more. But it’s a good tease that leaves not just fans, but even novice viewers wanting more. The story is set up in the trailer’s opening followed by a montage of images from the evolved world that’s waiting for us. My only gripe is that we spend about a minute and twenty seconds with real world exposition and get less than sixty seconds of imagery from the game world.
Word is, the trailer will be officially released by the end of this week, so look out for that.

I suppose if you really, really love the idea of chasing around the Internet for scraps of info it could be fun. Or you could just sit there and wait until the goodies are found and released, which is what I do. Here’s the latest, a new pic from “Tron: Legacy” via CBM.
Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. We’ve got what appears to be a real photograph of Jeff Bridges here playing the older version of his Flynn character (both older and younger appear, thanks to Ben Button style tech). He’s got something on his back that I will speculate is one of those cool circle light weapon things seen in the first movie. Thanks Aintitcool for the heads up.

“Tron 2″ director Joseph Kosinski took time out from putting the finishing touches on the visual effects for the sure-to-be effects heavy sequel to talk to the blokes over at MTV, and brought along a fresh look at the yellow lightcycle from the movie to boot. That pic below. According to Kosinki, the 3D aspect will only take place in the Tron world. Yah! More comfortable glasses to wear for two hours!
MTV: So the takeaway is that Jeff Bridges is playing at least two representations of himself, one that is a contemporary of the original character and one that is a younger version. How much of Jeff are we going to see?
Kosinski: Jeff is playing two characters. He’s playing Kevin Flynn, the character from the original film, and he’s playing Clu, the avatar that Kevin Flynn created in the 1980s. I’d say he’s Clu 2. There was a Clu in the first film who looked like Jeff but was very [...]

Scifiwire quizzed Olivia on some inner TRON bits and while she didn’t reveal any goods, she was quite a tease:
The smoking hot actress wears a new version of the famed Tron “light suit” that is skintight and black. How does it fit? “Oh, like a glove,” Wilde said with a laugh in an interview Monday in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her Fox TV series House. “Like a really tight glove. It was an honor to wear them, and I think everyone will be really wowed by them. It’s technology that’s never been used before, so it’s really exciting to be a part of that.
“Tron: Legacy” is still a ways away yet but you know that time can fly. It’s also relative. Of course, the more excited you are for something to happen, the slower time will pass. This is a tried and tested position of mine based on many years of wanton geek and exuberant nerdhood, awaiting the opening or release of “Empire Strikes Back”, “Avatar” or Santa.
In my adulthood I have learned better to distract myself from these forthcoming moments with episodes of real time. Living in real time makes for more efficient Happy. Please give it a try. If you cannot, then please enjoy this new poster and image from next Decembers return to the world of Tron, starring Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde among others. Thanks Ainitcool for the tip.

So far, “Tron 2″ secrets are pretty hard to find. We’ve seen a tiny teaser trailer with some wicked light-cycle battles and we have a vague idea about what’s going to go down, but I imagine it’ll be awhile before we get any real juice. Principal photography is finished but the likely to be ridiculously awesome effects won’t be finished until, like “Avatar”, just before the film is about to get reeled.
The Scifiwire kids talked to Jeff Bridges recently while he was promoting something not at all Sci-Fi and asked him about his dual roles in the film and his experiences filming without a camera. Jeff will play his character, Kevin Flynn, as an older guy and also as a young dude, via the tech demonstrated ably in Benjamin Button.
Jeff’s thoughts on being scanned.

My Sci-Fi memory goes back a long way young Jedi. Back in 82, my first personal computer the Sinclair ZX-81 was gangsta. I remember buying a ram addon for it that clipped to the back. We loaded games, such as they were, from cassette players. It took a long time. 30-45 minutes later, you were in pixelated glory. Unfortunately, if you so much as sneezed near the computer, or typed harder than a landing butterfly, the ram chip would disconnect and you would have to start over. Which we did, happily. Times have changed. In 82, a movie called TRON changed the way we looked at special effects in movies and at computers in general. I expected more after TRON.
At Comic-Con, the new TRON movie is getting some feature love. On the floor they even have the new lightcycle, made famous in old school TRON. It is bad ass. Somebody also took a shaky cam video of some TRON 2 [...]

Ain’titcool has a nice source within the production of the new “Tron” that gives us a few hints (maybe spoilers) about where the movie is going story concept wise.
Won’t be too long before we see some media bubbling up. Can’t wait to see some new light cycles in action.

Regardless of whether you grew up with the first “Tron” or not, the test footage for “Tron 2″ (then called “TR2N”) shown to audiences last year at Comic Con had to have gotten your light-cycle engines revving. if not, then you just don’t have a pulse. The footage all but promised a return by Jeff Bridge, reprising his role as Kevin Flynn from the first movie. Word from IO9 is that there won’t just be the older Flynn in the movie, but a younger version of him as well. How is that possible?
I09 has your answer:
A source reveals to io9 that Jeff Bridges has been sent up to Canada to be digitized. A plaster cast has been created of Bridges.
Our tipster tells us that:
They will then take that 3D model and make him younger and then slap it on a body double in post.
As this is only one cog in the [...]

Looks like Joseph Kosinski’s sequel (it is a sequel, right?) to “Tron” is moving forward full steam, with The Hollywood Reporter announcing that Disney has found its leading man in Garrett Hedlund, a newcomer who has played supporting roles in “Four Brothers”, “Troy”, and “Eragon”. He’ll be joining Jeff Bridges, who is supposed to reprise his role from the original, alongside gorgeous gals Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett. And oh yes, Bruce Boxleitner of Babylon 5 fame is also part of the show again.
More on Hedlun’s role in the sequel, as well as Bridges’:
Hedlund will play the lead, a man who finds himself pulled into the world of a computer and retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn.
Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn, who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation. Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have also been cast in the project, which was [...]

A couple of sci-fi news for ya today before we head off into the Christmas break for the entire week. First up: news from Comingsoon is that Bruce Boxleitner, who starred in the 1982 original alongside Jeff Bridges, is “is currently filming a role” for the sequel. No word on how big a “role” that is yet, or even the plot of the sequel. Also, here’s the latest trailer for the animated sci-fi comedy “Monsters vs. Aliens”.

——-*——-
Finally, ever wondered what that annoying Mac Vs. PC commercial would be like if the computers could come alive and actually duke it out instead of letting the fat guy and the skinny kid blab away? Apparently someone else did, too, and they cut the fight to the “Terminator” theme, which is pretty cool.

Merry Christmas for those of you who celebrates it, and Happy Holidays for those of you who don’t!

There was a lot of buzz about Joseph Kosinski’s “Tron 2.0″ at Comic Con this year, and apparently everyone who saw the test footage that Kosinki shot in order to wow the studio was equally wowed by it. Now a couple of things have become clear about the movie, in particular the plot: it will be a sequel to the 1982 Disney original, and not a reboot/remake, according to this THR article. Also, the film has cast its first two actors, and they just happen to be babes at that — Olivia Wilde, currently spending time on FOX’s House TV show, and Beau Garrett, last seen in the “Fantastic Four” sequel.
THR has more on the two ladies’ casting and their characters:
The original, about a programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.
The new movie is acting as a “next chapter.” Plot details are [...]
