We’re finally going to get to see “The Road”, the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s brilliant and honest story of a man trying to keep his son alive and the hope his son represents, in a world that has suffered a horrific cataclysm. Viggo Mortensen is the man for this role. He was born to it. Here’s a couple of new clips showing how life was before for Viggo and his family and also some evidence of the measure of the father’s strength. I’ve also added an interview with Viggo as he describes his feelings about the book and the filming of the movie. “The Road” is in theatres Nov 25th. Thanks io9 for spotting these.

It’s just another month before we get to see just how awesome and awesomely depressing the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel “The Road” is going to be. I’m going in steely eyed and will have a copy of “Raising Arizona” (funniest movie ever made) on the dvd, spun up and ready for when I get home.
Here in the, probably final, theatrical poster is all the information you need about how desperate and crappy two people can feel while on the road after the end of the world.

“The Road” was one of those books that for me changed how I saw the world and especially how I looked at other books or movies. As a consumer of other people creativity, there was stuff before The Road and there was the stuff after. Cormac McCarthy’s book is absolutely honest. It sets up the story, builds the world and is utterly remorseless in describing the lives of the characters that live there.
I kept waiting for Cormac to let off the gas, to give the characters some respite from the conditions and physics of the world that they lived in but he would not. The Road is a completely adult novel and was for me a really maturing experience. The John Hillcoat directed film version will hit theatres on Nov 25t and stars Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, and Guy Pearce. Collider sat down with the director and we have the interview below. Via QuietEarth. Also, Quiet [...]

“The Road” has been pushed back from it’s original release date to Nov 25th. A busy weekend. Dimension Films seems perhaps encouraged by the positive reviews The Road is getting at Telluride and in Venice where the film, based on Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize winning book, is being screened in film festivals.
The Road is probably my favorite book of all time and while I am definitely going to see the movie, I feel like I felt before going to see Schindler’s List. You know it’s going to be great and you know it’s going to hurt. Well, not all positive experiences are fun ones. The Road stars Viggo Mortenson, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Charlize Theron. The Road was directed by John Hillcoat.

I’ll dispense with my usual patter and just get these babies on the air here for you to enjoy. “The Road” is a film based on Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize winning novel about a man and his son, trying to survive day to day in a world that is badly, badly broken. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The Road as a book is brilliant in every way. I have very high hopes for the film. Opens Oct 16th.

Kodi Smit-McPhee, who plays the kid in Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” starring Viggo Mortenson, is in talks or is rumoured to be playing another kid in the remake of “Let the Right One In” a Swedish vampire tale that is extra plenty good. We’re not sure if Kodi Smit-McPhee will even be good in “The Road”. Let’s just take it on faith.
“Let the Right One In” is about a kid that meets the and befriends a vampire “girl” that moves in next door with her keeper. If you haven’t seen it, go out and rent it. Find a version with good subtitles. It is without a doubt one of the best vampire movies ever made. The remake Right One will be directed by Matt Reeves, he of Cloverfield fame. Because Cloverfield was a groundbreaking film in my opinion I have high hopes for the new version of Right. “The Road” opens in theatres Oct 16. Bring tissues. Thanks Scifiwire.

The Road, as we have reported, has a release date (Oct 16th). The Road is not an easy book to read and it is likely not an easy movie to watch. It has been delayed and many feared the movie, starring Viggo Mortensen, was going to be a disappointment. Well, Tom Chiarella from Esquire has seen it and like Mikey, he likes it. He likes it a lot.
I can’t imagine making an adaptation of probably the most honest and gripping novel I’ve ever read and Hollywoodizing it. It would be a tragedy. Apparently, director John Hillcoat and screen writer Joe Penhall got it right.
See the detailed review at Esquire.

Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” has been sitting awaiting the light of day for some time now. A story (starring Viggo Mortensen) about a man and his son surviving day to day in the aftermath of some unknown apocalypse, it is the adult novel of adult novels. There is no no mercy in the telling. It is as pure as literature can be. Cormac sets the scene. The land produces no more food. No animals survive except the occasional dog. How can humans survive? The resulting story is as honest as a book gets.
It’s my favorite book of all time. Yes, it’s really depressing. The movie I assume, is also really depressing. Since we are in the midst of some hard economic times I can assume that the movie release is being delayed somewhat by the mood of moviegoers. The movie’s release date has now been updated to Oct of 2009. Here we have some sample concept art for the film [...]
