New Hunger Games District Banners Revealed

Nix October 4, 2011

I know I shouldn’t be excited about “The Hunger Games”. I mean, it’s based on a young adult series of books, and I’m way too cool for things based on YA books. Right? Probably, but I don’t care. I kinda really want to see this thing. The fact that Gary Ross is directing is the cherry on the whatever it is cherries are put on top of to make them even better. Anyways, Lionsgate is releasing all of the movie’s 12 districts in banner form via Facebook, with each banner revealed only after a certain number of likes. Five have been revealed so far, and I’m guessing the rest will be coming pretty fast after this. This post will be updated as the other banners become available. [CLICK TO ENLARGE]

Run, Katniss, Run! First Hunger Games Teaser Trailer Arrives

Nix August 29, 2011

I’m still not sure how sci-fi this movie is going to be. If they follow the book, it should be reasonably sci-fi, with invisible cameras, crazy hybrid creatures, and invisible jets and ships and what have you. Whatever the case, here’s your first teaser trailer for “The Hunger Games”. See? You didn’t even have to watch the MTShitty Video Awards to see it, too. Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s… Continue Reading »

Two fresh looks at the freshly brunette Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in Gary Ross’ upcoming epic “The Hunger Games”, carrying around a bow and looking like she’s ready to puncture some weak cheese. First Look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games

Nix May 18, 2011

Lionsgate is hoping they’ve got a hit trilogy on their hands. Fans of Suzanne Collins’ series of novels are probably just hoping for a decent translation to the big screen. Here’s your first look at Katniss, the movie’s heroine, played by Jennifer Lawrence via Entertainment Weekly. In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’s young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town… Continue Reading »

Jennifer Lawrence is Probably Katniss in The Hunger Games

Nix March 11, 2011

According to Variety, the Oscar-nominated actress (for “Winter’s Bone”) is “close to getting an offer” to star in Gary Ross’ upcoming “The Hunger Games”, based on the series of young adult novels by Suzannes Collins, who co-wrote the script for the movie adaptation. Apparently Lawrence was neck-in-neck with fellow candidates (and fellow Oscar nominee) Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit”) and Abigail Breslin (“Zombieland”) for the role. Although Katniss, the main character in the movie is supposed to be 16, Lawrence is already 20, and while she could probably still play a convincing teenager, having her is very different than having either 14-year olds Steinfeld or Breslin. The tone will probably be slightly different, since Lawrence just looks and gives off an older vibe than the other two. In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. And you thought YOUR teenage years were rough! Ross, who has directed “Pleasantville” and “Seabiscuit”, is expected to commence shooting the film in late spring or summer. This, despite no cast yet…

Hunger Games Movie Shows Movement at Last

Nix July 19, 2010

It’s been nearly a year and a half since we last heard about any movement on “The Hunger Games”, the sci-fi film based on Suzanne Collins’s series of best-selling young adult novels. The LATimes now reports that Lionsgate and producer Nina Jacobson have hired screenwriter Billy Ray to work on a draft of the script previously turned in by Collins herself. Here’s a plot of the book for those who are in the dark? A dystopic Capitol requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl who are forced to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. When Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery, Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home. Billy… Continue Reading »

Kids Battle to the Death in The Hunger Games

Nix March 17, 2009

Franchise-ready young adult book series are all the rage nowadays, with your “Twilight” and your “Harry Potters” and a sea of others. The latest kid-friendly series to get the big-screen treatment (and if all goes well, a movie franchise) is “The Hunger Games”, a novel by author Suzanne Collins set in a dystopian future where kids are forced to battle to the death. Sounds like fun times to me! THR has more on the novels: The Scholastic novel, which is the first in a planned trilogy, imagines a dystopian future (is there any other kind?) where North America has been divided into 12 oppressed districts, each of which is forced to send tribute in the form of a boy and a girl to compete in a televised battle to the death once a year. Released last year, the book had gained modest popularity until Stephen King and “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer publicly gave it kudos, propelling it onto best-seller lists…. Continue Reading »

Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games In The Movie PipeLine

endymi0n March 6, 2009

Although billed as a young adult book, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, sounds like and frankly reads like, a plenty grownup story to me. Coming soon from Nina Jacobson and her company Color Force. Hailed by Stephen King, it tells the story of a competition in a dystopian world where geographical regions must send representitives to fight to the death. This is all televised of course in the gladiator/running man format. I’m not sure that’s kids stuff. Further to this rant, I finished Neil Gaimen’s Graveyard Book recently (loved it). The Graveyard Book was sold in the kids section at my local giant bookstore warehouse. I don’t think the Graveyard book is even remotely for kids. Anyway, that’s my rant for today.
