Katniss Takes Aim at the Gamemakers in First Hunger Games Clip

Nix March 5, 2012

The lesson here, kiddies? Don’t ever turn your back on a girl with a bow and arrow. Especially when you’ve dragged her from her friends and family and home to fight against her will in your little win-or-die tournament. Stupid Capitol scum. Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life… Continue Reading »

Nix February 6, 2012

Did you missed the TV spots for “Battleship”, “John Carter”, and other sci-fi films during the Super Bowl this Sunday? Hey, I can see that happening. It’s a vicious cycle, to be sure. Thankfully for you, we have those TV spots below. JOHN CARTER Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. New Hunger Games Pics

Nix January 23, 2012

I used to think casting Jennifer Lawrence, who just naturally has this super serious, “I’m 20 but I look and feel like 40″ expression was a bad idea. After all, the character she’s playing is supposed to be a teenager. But the more I see of Lawrence in the role, and think about the character, the more it makes sense. Katniss Everdeen is a kid, but she’s a kid who has grown up in a bad, bad time in the world, and Lawrence’s oft-somber appearance reflects that perfectly. I guess Gary Ross knew what he was doing when he cast her after all. Four new pics from the upcoming Ross movie to take in this fine Monday morning. Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the… Continue Reading »

Final Hunger Games Poster, or, Say, You Think We Can Air Brush Her Some More, Guys?

Nix January 20, 2012

Jesus Cripes, they really put the airbrush to poor Jennifer Lawrence here, didn’t they? Criminey. Anywhatever. Here’s the final poster for “The Hunger Games”, starring Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as a pair of crazy kids stuck in a game where if they lose, they die. I call that Monday. Heyo! I’ll be here all week, folks. Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. Also starring Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, Willow Shields, and directed by Gary Ross. Hunger Games Sequel Gets Writer, New Pic

Nix January 19, 2012

Hard to believe, but yes, “Hunger Games” fans, the first movie based on the Suzanne Collins trilogy of novels will be heading to a theater near you in March. Until then, check out a new image (above) and this news that a writer has officially been hired to pen the second film in the series, “Catching Fire”. Simon Beaufoy, best known for writing (and winning an Oscar for) Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” will be adapting “Catching Fire” for director Gary Ross, who will also continue on the franchise and direct the sequel, though no word if he’ll also do the third and final film, “Mockingjay”. Let’s face it, there will be a second and third movie. I just don’t see the film not being one of 2012′s big hits, even with “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises” also opening in the year. “The Hunger Games” will get in there and get out before those films can trample everyone else… Continue Reading »

New Pics from Men in Black 3 and Hunger Games

Nix January 16, 2012

Sprinkled liberally among their coverage of the upcoming films of 2012, the LATimes also featured a couple of sci-fi films of note, including new images for “Men in Black 3″ starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, as well as “The Hunger Games”, featuring what appears to be a meeting with Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, and Jennifer Lawrence. I think you can also catch a body part from Josh Hutcherson in the photo, but don’t hold me to it.

New Posters: Prometheus, The Hunger Games, and John Carter of Mars

Nix December 15, 2011

Lots of sci-fi posters this week, probably because the studios are trying to get all their stuff out there before the Holidays and beat the Christmas break rush. (Got all your gift shopping done yet? No? Get to it, then!) Here are three new posters for three sci-fi titles, including Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games”, Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”, and Andrew Stanton’s “John Carter” (sans “Mars”).

Five New Images From The Hunger Games

Gary Ross’ games begin March 23, 2012, but until then, check out five new images the studio has released for the upcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games”. First Full Theatrical Trailer for The Hunger Games

Nix November 14, 2011

Fans of Suzanne Collins’ novels should really like this first full theatrical trailer for Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games”. First of all, Jennifer Lawrence is just looking so good as Katniss, and from what I can see, the movie seems to be very faithful to the original source novel. Which is a good thing in my book. Take a look at the trailer below. Katniss Will Shoot Yo Ass in New Hunger Games Pic

Nix November 9, 2011

If you’ve read the Suzanne Collins novels that “The Hunger Games” will be based on, then you already know that heroine Katnis Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence in the Gary Ross-directed trilogy) can be pretty badass when she needs to be. She’s a tough gal who rarely lets her emotions get the best of her, and she’s quite handy with that bow and arrow. Here’s a new pic from the movie showing that Lawrence looks mighty at home shooting that traditional bow. Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. Look for it in 2012.

The Cast of The Hunger Games Pose for Vanity Fair

Nix November 2, 2011

When you think sci-fi dystopian society, you of course think … Vanity Fair? Sure, why not. The magazine recently gathered up the kids of Gary Ross’ upcoming “The Hunger Games” and had them stand around posing for pictures. You can see the results below. They also have an interview with Jennifer Lawrence, which you can read here. (Jennifer Lawrence as a blonde looks SO much different from Jennifer Lawrence as a brunette. Just sayin’.) The cast includes Isabelle Fuhrman, Jack Quaid, Jacqueline Emerson, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin, Alexander Ludwig, Amandla Stenberg, Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Liam Hemsworth. The games begin March 23, 2012.

Character Posters for the Boys and Girls of The Hunger Games

Nix October 27, 2011

Eight whopping character posters for Lionsgate’s upcoming sure-to-be spectacular “The Hunger Games” franchise. That is, unless Gary Ross royally screws it up, then I take back my sure-to-be spectacular comment. I don’t think so, though. Gary Ross is one hell of a good director. Great, even.
