Gerard Butler’s latest, “Gamer” is essentially a rehash of the Arnold Schwarzenegger 1987 sci-fi actioner “The Running Man”, minus the groan-inducing quips and overall sense of cheesy fun. Sure, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have more to work with, including a more expressive leading man in Gerard Butler (though he doesn’t necessarily show it off here), better CG-assisted mayhem, and of course, more advanced squib effects to wow the audience with.
Unfortunately the 2009 edition doesn’t have nearly the personality of its predecessor, and for all his thespian chops, Butler is reduced to little more than an anonymous shooting, grunting, and punching stuntman throughout the movie. Mind you, not that that’s a bad thing. Here, a stuntman who can shoot and run and survive outrageous explosions is really all you need.
“Gamer” takes place in one of those “sometime in the future” future, where death row inmates are given the option of participating in a game called Slayers for the chance [...]

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s “Gamer”, starring Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall opens next week, and although sci-fi fans and gamer fans will probably get a major kick out of it, I just don’t see it doing a whole lot of business. Regardless, check out new images from the movie below.
Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Butler) from a game called “Slayers” looks to regain his independence while taking down the game’s mastermind (Hall).
Starring Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Milo Ventimiglia, John Leguizamo, Logan Lerman, Kyra Sedgwick, Alison Lohman, Zoe Bell, Terry Crews, Keith David, Aaron Yoo, Amber Valletta, Johnny Whitworth, Efren Ramirez, Ludacris, Sam Witwer, Joseph D. Reitman, and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.
Game on September 4, 2009.

Except, well, crazier. From the guys behind “Crank”, you don’t expect anything less. Here are five more images from “Gamer” for your viewing pleasure.

Recently, Gerard Butler spent a few moments talking about his upcoming Sci-Fi action flick “Gamer”. In “Gamer”, Gerald plays the character Kable, a guy imprisoned and forced to be a living first person shooter character. He gets physically controlled by snot nosed kids but manages somehow to stay alive due to his studliness or his inherent Scottish-ness.
Gerard has seen his own movie and he likes it.
“It’s what you’d expect if you lived in that world,” Butler said in an exclusive telephone interview a few weeks ago while promoting his latest film, The Ugly Truth. “It doesn’t stop. It really doesn’t let up for a second, even in terms of the drama. I saw it for myself a few weeks ago, and I was blown away. I was so happy with how it turned out.”
Gerard gives us his take on the film’s premise.
“Kable is actually in a prison, where they’ve instituted this new game, where pretty much nobody survives,” Butler said. [...]

What exactly is an “augmented reality movie poster”, you ask? Good question. I haven’t a clue. But the folks at Lionsgate who are pushing the sci-fi ditty “Gamer” told us this:
As you may know, Lionsgate’s theatrical marketing team has just debuted a website featuring an augmented reality movie poster for their upcoming Gerard Butler film, GAMER. Attached (below), you’ll find what may appear to be a bizarre looking image – it’s actually an icon that can be used in conjunction with a site that Lionsgate just launched to create a 3-D image on your webcam!
Capitalizing off of augmented reality webcam technology, users will be able to print out the attached icon on a piece of paper, login to the website for GAMER, and see the exclusive movie poster on their monitor in 3-D!

Yeah, I’m still confused. But a quick trip to the Gamer site whosplayingyou.com has a nice little video that explains everything. Head on over there [...]

Here’s a great new trailer for Gerard Butler’s sci-fi actioner “Gamer”, written and directed by those crazy “Crank” boys Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. There are certain parts of this game that just looks cool, like you’re really sucked into an actual First Person Shooter game. I’ve seen online Death Match games that looks just like this, especially the warehouse scene. the International trailer offers up a lot more new footage, and is definitely worth a look.
Game is a near-future action/thriller starring Gerard Butler (Kable) as the champion of an on-line game called “Slayers”. Mind-control technology has taken society by storm and “Slayers” allows humans control other humans in mass-scale, multiplayer online game. With his every move tracked by millions, Kable’s ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him.
Starring Gerard Butler, Alison Lohman, Milo Ventimiglia, Michael C. Hall, Aaron Yoo, John Leguizamo, Amber Valletta, Terry Crews, and Logan Lerman. Directed [...]

A new batch of images from Gerard Butler’s sci-fi actioner “Gamer”, one of those movies that you probably won’t be leaving the theaters discussing, unless it’s to argue about how many bodies the movie piles up, and how many explosions they managed through the whole thing. This looks like a straight-forward, shoot’em up in a sci-fi setting, and that’s just fine with me.

The official trailer for Gerald Butler’s “Gamer” has been released into the wild by Lionsgate. Big fan of Gerald Butler. He needs to stop making those fluffy romantic comedies and stick with action and drama. Hopefully drama with bullets. Good cast supporting Mr. Butler. Here is the official synopsis.
Gamer is a high-concept action thriller set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. Reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has created the controversial form of entertainment, “Slayers,” a hugely popular game that allows millions to act out their innermost fantasies and desires – online – in front of a global audience. Gaming has evolved into a terrifying new dimension… mind control… mind manipulation… people playing people!

We have for you, via the kind folks at Quiet Earth, the first trailer I’ve seen of “The Game”, a cyberpunk actioner starring Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Alison Lohman, and John Leguizamo. What’s it about? Well, I’m glad you asked!
Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Gerard Butler) from a game called “Slayers” looks to regain his independence while taking down the game’s mastermind.
As Quiet Earth has also mentioned, the Italians like their trailers spicy with extra macho, so I’m betting we will see a different sort of cut for the English trailer. I’ve been a big fan of Gerald’s ever since Beowulf. Might even get my wife to come see this one (she thinks he’s cute).

Bad boy Scottish fella Gerald Butler stars in the Post Apocalyptic adventure “The Game”, coming to you sometime this year. Some cast members from the film (not Gerald) reminisce about the making of the film, which included naked fighting and the finer points of the drinking establishments in Albuquerque.
Thanks Quiet Earth.
Here’s a taste.
