Andrew Niccol is a fine director, but he’s had plenty of hits and misses in his relatively short career. After 1997′s “Gattaca”, which he wrote and directed, he followed with the well-received “Truman Show”, before dropping stinkers like “Simone” and “Lord of War”. For his latest project, Niccol returns to the near-future with “The Cross”, a sci-fi movie that will star Orlando Bloom as a man who seeks to cross a mysterious border, a feat no one has ever achieved before. He’ll be joined by Vincent Cassell and Olga Kurylenko (“Max Payne”), the former playing the man who must stop him, and the latter playing his love interest.
