Official press release below.
Universal Pictures, One Race Films and Radar Pictures announced today that principal photography has begun on the action-driven, sci-fi thriller Riddick. The shoot will take place in Montreal.
Yup, after a lot of start and stop, and start again, it appears David Twohy and Vin Diesel’s “Riddick” is actually, honest to goodness, getting made. Go figure. I know the film has been casting for a while (Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, that Funk kid), but I gotta tell you, I wasn’t still sure it would actually happen. I mean, the film has so much potential to be badass, I just naturally assumed Hollywood would find a way to kill it. Cause, you know, that’s what Hollywood does.
Yeah, I don’t now who the dude is, either. Here’s what Variety says:
Nolan Funk is set to star alongside Vin Diesel in the next installment of the “Riddick” franchise. Funk can be seen next in the Bold Films pic “Evidence” and just wrapped the co-lead role in the ABC Family pilot “Intercept.”
Variety and Deadline are reporting that both Katee Sackhoff and Jordi Molla are now officially in talks to play mercenaries tracking down everyone’s favorite space fugitive with a bad attitude in “Riddick”, the third movie in the “Pitch Black” franchise from star Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy.
Vin Diesel and David Twohy’s “Riddick” is heating up. (That would be “Pitch Black 3″ or “The Chronicles of Riddick 2″ FYI.)
The latest casting rumors on the film has offers going out to Andreas Apergis, Katee Sackhoff (of “Battlestar Galactica” fame), Bokeem Woodbine and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista. Ahem, sorry, I mean, WWE superstar Dave Bautista. That’s like the official title for those wrasslin’ guys, right?
The ever affable Vin Diesel, as he is wont to do, has put out yet another concept artwork for his upcoming “Riddick 3″ movie, which we hear tell he’s still working on with writer/director David Twohy. Being that Twohy doesn’t have a Facebook page with a gazillion fans, it’s up to Diesel to keep us abreast of what’s transpiring in ol Riddick world. Take a gander, won’t you?
According to Vin Diesel via his Facebook page, “Riddick” will indeed by R-rated, and pre-production is still going strong on the movie, with director David Twohy back to direct. Plus, he dropped this nifty little concept artwork from the movie showing hero Riddick looking very up to his eyeballs in blood and death and no doubt, lots of carnage.
The folks at MovieHole have gotten their hands on some casting notices and plot details from Vin Diesel and David Twohy’s upcoming “Riddick”, their sequel to “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”. I suppose shortening the title to just “Riddick” is the way to go, though it might actually confuse people who don’t already know it’s a sequel to two existing movies. Then again, considering the clunky nature of “The Chronicles of Riddick”, maybe that’s not such a bad idea after all.
As he is wont to do, Vin Diesel has released another piece of concept art from his in-development “Riddick 3″ movie through his millions-strong Facebook page. “Riddick 3″, of course, is the sequel to “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick” that he and writer/director David Twohy have gestating somewhere in the bowels of Hollywood. Who knows if we’ll ever actually see it, but until then, here’s the latest piece of art from the movie. At the very least, we know Twohy is still working on it in some capacity, because according to Diesel, this comes from Twohy himself.

The boys at Coming Attractions have managed to get their hands on the script for David Twohy and Vin Diesel’s upcoming “Chronicles of Riddick” sequel, apparently titled “Dead Man Stalking” (beh, not a fan of that one), and they’ve spilled the beans. Read on for PLOT DETAIL SPOILERS.
Via his Facebook account, Vin Diesel has posted the first concept art from what I assume is the upcoming “The Chronicles of Riddick” sequel, because I don’t recall that dog from any of the previous movies.
Says Diesel about the pic:
Early Riddick concept art… first frame of a 2D Motion Choreography Study.
The Hollywood Reporter has given us our first taste of what the “Chronicles of Riddick” sequel will be all about — basically a “back to basics” storytelling that, from the sounds of it, is more “Pitch Black” than the clunky, epic-wannabe mess that was its sequel, “The Chronicles of Riddick”. Hey, I liked both movies, but let’s face it, who the hell cares about the Underverse or whatever the hell it was called. Give me a primitive, primal looking Riddick going up against people in high-tech suits with space guns armed with only a prison shank and it’s all good.
