In a late night bidding war brouhaha, the film rights to the “Terminator” franchise was sold to Pacificor for 29.5 million, out bidding both Sony and Lionsgate. The previous owner, Halcyon Holding Corp will get 5 million for every new “Terminator” film and they will get to continue to milk the revenues from Terminator 3 and 4. Terminator 4 (Salvation) made over 350 million worldwide. Does this mean we will soon see a new Terminator movie? If Lionsgate had won the bidding, word was that it was going to be a total reboot, back to simple man on Terminator action like the first two movies. Pacificor is a hedge fund company and probably not in the movie making biz themselves but I guess everyone starts at the first one. Despite the lower intestinal discomfort that Salvation gave me, I’d still spend my allowance to see another Terminator. Salvation had no balance. Too many Terminators, too grim. We need more humour [...]

After remembering the lunchbox letdown that was “Terminator: Salvation”, I think back at the edit made to the feature release and how a little more Moon Bloodgood would have made a world of difference. Finally, the brief, but momentous, Moon Bloodgood topless scene has been added back into the movie along with more delightful, but humourless, man vs killer droid action. This upcoming release is described as the Director’s cut for when you hit Amazon for it. Thanks Scifiwire.

Sam Worthington is probably not a name you might have been familiar with until last weeks “Terminator: Salvation” hit the theatres and unfortunately, the fan. Sam played a dude, who, on the eve of his execution for something heinous, signs over his body to CyberDyne for purposes he could not have suspected. Much later, Sam awakens in a post apocalyptic world where the fate of humanity rests on..blah..blah, you get the idea. Sam was great in Salvation. He’s emotional. He kicks butt and does the action thing in a way that kind of reminds me of Harrison Ford. You get the feeling he is going to get the job done, but that he is human and what he goes through affects him. That is a rare trait in an action star, plus the chicks dig the studly but vulnerable types. Sam Worthington is going to be the action Sci-Fi go to guy for years to come in my opinion. See [...]

Nix has already reviewed this beast so we’ll go with his judgement as the definitive review. In honor of the franchise, I will do a high speed review in bullet points. Sam Worthington is a dude to watch. Avatar is going to be sweet Sci-Fi butter with this guy in it. Man has some depth. Why was Christian Bale in this movie? The original idea of just having John Connor in it for a cameo was way better. He was just a distraction. The real story was Marcus. That’s all you needed. Waking up in a strange time, learning you were a machine and being horrified of yourself while at the same time trying to redeem yourself for past evil deeds. That’s a dark and lovely mix. Easily could have made the entire movie just about him. Should have. McG is a good director of action movies. Christian Bale needs to make a movie where he can smile. If he [...]

It looks better than the actual movie. Then again, what doesn’t look better than the actual movie? Anyways, I love how they incorporate the rest of the franchise into the second half of the clip. You think it’s going to be just the “Transformers 2″ and “Terminator Salvation” clips, but then BAM, they hit you with the rest. Awesome stuff. Mash-up via IGN.
As you have likely heard, the scene in “Terminator: Salvation” where Moon Bloodgood gets naked in the rain has been edited out of the theatrical version. This is disappointing and kind of strange if the ultimate reason was to lower the rating to PG 13. McG claims this isn’t the case but with all the ultra violence in this movie a little nudity shouldn’t have hurt the rating much. Once again, in North American movies, violence is ok, sex is bad. Moon herself had some words to say about the edit at a recent press thing. We heard that you were fighting to keep your topless scene in the movie. Let me clarify, I wasn’t fighting for it, I just don’t like to feel that as a woman I should be apologetic about my sexuality, or that I made a choice because I was forced to do it. I thought the scene was appropriate. I thought it was beautiful. I [...]

As summer event films go, “Terminator Salvation” blows’em up real good. Lots and lots of times. Heck, sometimes the blowing up goes on for so long and is so excessive that it borders on the absurd. Alas, the film is missing heart, which is ironic since the human heart plays a very pivotal role in this movie about man versus machine, and exactly what constitutes the difference between the two. (Aside from the fact that we bury our dead, I mean.) It gets doubly worst when you realize that this was the writers’ intention all along – this is exactly what they were heading towards from Day 1, even if the final minutes or so seems to have been altered when the film’s originally planned ending was leaked onto the Internet and caused a major fan revolt. To be perfectly honest with you, I think I might have preferred that other ending, if just to put a finer point on [...]

That’s right, folks, it’s raining “Terminator Salvation” promos. With just a week to go before the movie opens, Warner Bros. is really flooding the net with goodies. This time it’s two more behind-the-scenes video clips from the movie, showing quite a bit, actually. One is about four minutes long, and the other is even longer at around seven minutes. You actually see a lot of plot, and it’s very cool to see the behind-the-scenes stuff without a lot of talking heads telling you what’s going on. I’m dying to see this one, so I actually didn’t watch the longer clip for fear of spoiling something. I already know way too much about the movie going in as is, I want to save at least some surprises for the theater experience. “Terminator Salvation” stars, Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Helena Bonham Carter, Anton Yelchin, Jadagrace, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common, Jane Alexander, Michael Ironside, and Ivan G’Vera .
In the wake of having debunked the notion that he was under pressure to make the latest installment in the Terminator saga less of a bloodfest than perhaps it ought to be, esteemed film director McG recently came to the defense of the PG-13 rating. “It just became clear that the things that would take it to an R or an NC-17 would be: There goes the arm, and now the blood is squirting on my face,” McG said in a group interview last Friday in Beverly Hills, Calif. “That wasn’t in service of the character or the story. The elements that would have taken it to R just ended up feeling gratuitous in the editing room. There’s a topless scene with Moon Bloodgood. I was trying to echo that scene in Witness where Kelly McGillis turns and says, ‘I’m not ashamed’ to Harrison Ford. But it just felt like, ‘Oh, there’s the genre stunt of the good-looking girl taking [...]

Looks more like “Transformers” than “Terminator” was my initial reaction upon seeing the giant Terminator Harvester robot via some concept drawings. The film’s trailer has since been released, and I still don’t dig the look of the Harvester. I don’t get why Skynet needs such a huge friggin robot. Seems very cumbersome and not all that good for going around crushing humanity. But hey, you can’t deny that watching Marcus (the robot guy who doesn’t know he’s a robot played by Sam Worthington) and Kyle Reese (played by young Anton Yelchin, recently of “Star Trek”) fight the Harvester isn’t cool, cause, you know, it is. Here’s a long Harvester clip from the movie, including some behind-the-scenes stuff about the making of said scene. After Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, a group of survivors led by John Connor struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job.
As you may have read, McG and the powers that be behind “Terminator: Salvation” have made some changes to the ending of Salvation due to some early story leaks. Although we really can’t be sure, this is the ending that was too painful for us to bear. At the end of the film, the face of the dead (!!!) John Connors is grafted onto Sam Worthington’s character Marcus. Marcus is some kind of hybrid Terminator/Human or so I gather from the trailers etc. Various versions of this ending were considered, including having Marcus snuff out all the witnesses to this event before he assumed the role of John. I don’t think we can be totally sure this ending isn’t the real deal. It sounds very cool actually. Here’s a quote from McG on the matter of dark endings. “There was this leak that Connor dies and they put Connor’s face on top of the machine body of [half-man, half-machine] Marcus [...]

From these photos we can assume that only the beautiful survive in this horrid possible future. There’s some excellent close up accounts of Terminators and of Moon Bloodgood and the lovely redheaded Bryce Dallas Howard. A click on the small picture in the gallery will blast open a super huge, hi rez version for your enjoyment. Thanks slashfilm.
