Is it Really Starship Troopers if There’s no Unisex Showers and No One’s Getting Decapitated by Alien Bugs?
Nix June 27, 2012Unless you’ve been living in a cave or hiding underneath a big bug that’s shooting weird explosive things out of its ass and into space, then you already know that they’re remaking Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 splatterific sci-fi actioner “Starship Troopers”. In fact, of the three sci-fi films that Verhoeven has done in his Hollywood career so far (“Troopers”, “Robocop”, and “Total Recall”), all three are currently being remade. Verhoeven’s “Starship Troopers” was a satirical take on a fascist society that valued citizenship to an elite class over individuality and free thought. Or something. Honestly, I’m sure it had a lot of fascist satire in it, but I never really bought that the film was that deep. In fact, its satire was so on-the-nose that it was kind of cringe-worthy, to be perfectly honest with you. But the movie itself was what you would call pretty damn badass.
