Stargate Universe Recap 1.09: Life

normal_109_life_32What would you actually do all day if you were marooned on a million year old starship, bound for who the hell knows and stuck with a motley band of cranky (or homicidal) crew? The ninth episode of SGU attempts to realistically explain this and also how to tastefully (maybe too tastefully) handle the sticky problem of space lesbians.

Ready for More Sex in Stargate SGU? And Look, Lesbians!

Apparently when “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi told complaining fans to get over the sex on his show because it’s gonna keep happening, he wasn’t blowing smoke. Check out some new promo images from this week’s new “Stargate: Universe” episode, 1.09, “Life”, which features former “24″ CTU badass Reiko Aylesworth as Ming Na’s lesbian lover character. The whole sex and lesbian thing? I could care less. But the whole “jumping into someone else’s body and then going to have sex with someone else” angle? That just gives me the creeps. Big time. Surely, this is going to become an issue in future episodes, right? Say, a “No more having sex with other people while you’re in someone else’s body” rule? Or not, because it sure seems to keep happening. What happens if, er, they impregnate someone? Or catches an STD? I’m just saying. For a show that seems to have enslaved itself to being as “real” and “gritty” as possible, it’s curious that this topic has gone undiscussed on the show.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.08: Time

STARGATE-UNIVERSE-Time-5-365x550Despite the inconsistent beginning to Stargate Universe, I’m beginning to think, after last nights planetary bombardment of wicked called “Time”, that we may really have a Sci-Fi show that wants to be something good. “Time” had some of the classic elements of a really memorable episode for any Sci-Fi show. Let’s review.

Stargate: Universe 1.08 Time Promo Images

I’m all for allowing a show to gradually introduce itself as much as the next guy, but all the survival arcs in the first seven episodes of “Stargate: Universe” is starting to wear a little thin. And it’s not as if they’re even slowly introducing new characters with each episode; we already know everyone that matters, which left a lot of really pointless filler stuff like the characters coming home (okay, I like the Eli homecoming scene, but do we really need two of Young and Chloe?), going to clubs (clubbing!) and bedding the ex-wife while you’re a gazillion miles away on an alien ship, nevermind all the implications of your wife having sex with another man, even though it’s you in his mind, but it ain’t you, if you know what I mean. BRRRRRRRR. That episode still gives me the creeps.

Another Stargate Universe Producer Takes Umbrage with SGU Criticism

This is actually getting pretty amusing. As you’ll recall, last week we posted a blog posting by “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi, who fired back at critics of “SGU” through his blog. Today, SciFiWire has another intriguing fight with another “SGU” producer over the show, except this time “SGU” producer Brad Wright is picking the fight not with fans, but with a newspaper columnist who dared to call his show anything but great.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.07: Earth

Stargate-Universe-Episode-7-12-550x365On Earth, life is even more complicated for the crew and passengers of the Destiny than their uncertain existence on the ship. That’s the lesson for this week. Man eating dust devils, no water or air and sun surfing, those are easy. It’s relationships that are hard.

Stargate Universe thumbStargate Universe is a popular little Sci-Fi effort that seems to have a certain strange attraction to both Nix and I and you, out there, in the dark beyond the tubes. Some people like it, some people hate it, some people just watch, uncertain of how it as yet computes in their estimation. I want it to be good. How’s that?

SGU Producer Joseph Mallozzi Would Like you to Stop Being Idiots

Well, this, er, is not going to prove very fruitful. Apparently tired of all the “Stargate: Universe” bashers showing up at his blog and leaving, well, SGU bashing comments, SGU producer/writer Joseph Mallozzi has responded with a long statement on his blog.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.06: Water

As I have been dutifully preparing to write this weeks episode recap of SGU, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of a particular moment or event in the story to launch from. Did anything really happen at all in “Water”? I don’t think so. The episode didn’t exactly tank. It wasn’t horrible. It just seemed like, narratively speaking, the show was just ah, treading water. Television shows have a proud history of doing this, usually for the purposes of setting us up for some important future development. I’m really not sure what that important development could be here.

Stargate Universe "Water"Continuing in the theme of a ship without supplies, “Stargate Universe” brings us this weeks upcoming episode called “Water”.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.05: Light

stargate-universe-article2Amidst the early episode cheese, boobs and startup fumbling in “Stargate Universe”, I detected faint traces of fascinating Sci-Fi possibilities. In the 5th episode of SGU, I think we finally have what we’ve been waiting for.

Sci-Fi Babe Spotlight: The Girls Of Stargate Universe

Oh you knew it was coming. Here I was, innocently studying the last episode of SGU (Darkness), pen in hand, scribbling notes for further intelligent discussion when Blamo!, out came the Boobs. And not just any boobs. Gone was the tension I was experiencing contemplating the poor lost castaways, marooned and airless, followed by lightness and now on a smack-down course with a big ball of fusion. Instead, it was chest high closeup shots of a really magnificent Sci-Fi rack courtesy of the lovely and talented Canadian beauty Julie Anderson playing Vanessa James. I now have tension of a different sort.

Stargate: Universe 1.05 Light Promos

It looks like things are not going well for our “Stargate: Universe” crew. After last week’s slingshot-gone-awry episode, they’re now headed right into the sun. Oops. Here are promos for this week’s episode, “Light”. So, besides the prospect of everyone dying, this episode also features Scott and Chloe getting their freak on. Eli will not be pleased.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.04: Darkness

stargate-universe-review-1Welcome to the episode 4 recap. When we last left Dr. Rush, Eli Wallace, Colonel Young and friends aboard the starship Destiny, they had just figured out that whole breathable air thing. Oxygen is good.

Stargate Universe’s Alaina Huffman and Elyse Levesque are Steppin’ Out

Here are two more reasons to watch “Stargate: Universe” — Alaina Huffman and Elyse Levesque are on the cover of “Steppin’ Out” magazine. I have no idea what the magazine does, or where it’s steppin’ out to, but it can’t be all bad if it’s giving props to “SGU”, right? Magazine cover featuring the two lovely ladies below.
