Apparently when “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi told complaining fans to get over the sex on his show because it’s gonna keep happening, he wasn’t blowing smoke. Check out some new promo images from this week’s new “Stargate: Universe” episode, 1.09, “Life”, which features former “24″ CTU badass Reiko Aylesworth as Ming Na’s lesbian lover character. The whole sex and lesbian thing? I could care less. But the whole “jumping into someone else’s body and then going to have sex with someone else” angle? That just gives me the creeps. Big time. Surely, this is going to become an issue in future episodes, right? Say, a “No more having sex with other people while you’re in someone else’s body” rule? Or not, because it sure seems to keep happening. What happens if, er, they impregnate someone? Or catches an STD? I’m just saying. For a show that seems to have enslaved itself to being as “real” and “gritty” as possible, [...]

Despite the inconsistent beginning to Stargate Universe, I’m beginning to think, after last nights planetary bombardment of wicked called “Time”, that we may really have a Sci-Fi show that wants to be something good. “Time” had some of the classic elements of a really memorable episode for any Sci-Fi show. Let’s review.
I was deeply confused. A landing party of non Redshirts gate into an alien jungle hellhole. They’re looking for food apparently. All the action is captured by floating ballcam Kino. People start feeling a little woozy. A quarantine of sorts is arranged. That night, as the healthy tend to the sick, nasty leech like screeching chest burrowers drop out of the jungle and begin to chomp on a few of the lesser known crew members. The danger is wicked and real. The only problem with all this is the previews that we saw either at the end of last weeks tepid “Earth”, or during our travels here at The [...]

I’m all for allowing a show to gradually introduce itself as much as the next guy, but all the survival arcs in the first seven episodes of “Stargate: Universe” is starting to wear a little thin. And it’s not as if they’re even slowly introducing new characters with each episode; we already know everyone that matters, which left a lot of really pointless filler stuff like the characters coming home (okay, I like the Eli homecoming scene, but do we really need two of Young and Chloe?), going to clubs (clubbing!) and bedding the ex-wife while you’re a gazillion miles away on an alien ship, nevermind all the implications of your wife having sex with another man, even though it’s you in his mind, but it ain’t you, if you know what I mean. BRRRRRRRR. That episode still gives me the creeps.
Anyways, it feels like things are finally turning on the show with this week’s new episode, “Time”, which has [...]

This is actually getting pretty amusing. As you’ll recall, last week we posted a blog posting by “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi, who fired back at critics of “SGU” through his blog. Today, SciFiWire has another intriguing fight with another “SGU” producer over the show, except this time “SGU” producer Brad Wright is picking the fight not with fans, but with a newspaper columnist who dared to call his show anything but great.
So, it begins with Chicago Tribune’s TV reviewer Maureen Ryan writing this during her positive review of ABC’s new show “V”:
(And let’s face it, we sci-fi fans are a frequently disappointed lot. ABC hasn’t quite managed to quite recapture the magic of “Lost” with any of its subsequent genre-flavored offerings. “FlashForward” still seems like a show that is more about its concept than its characters. And the other notable fall genre offering, Syfy’s “Stargate Universe,” is a boring, poorly plotted, lamentably sexist mess.)
Brad Wright apparently reads reviews on [...]

On Earth, life is even more complicated for the crew and passengers of the Destiny than their uncertain existence on the ship. That’s the lesson for this week. Man eating dust devils, no water or air and sun surfing, those are easy. It’s relationships that are hard.
I can understand this. You don’t really choose who you love and you for sure can’t decide who your parents are going to be. So tough luck. In Space, the Destiny continues to roll on and on. In the Destiny, it’s business as usual. This week is Earth week as Chloe, Colonel Young and Eli get a trip aboard the funky traveling stones that allow them to switch bodies, instantly, across billions of lightyears, with folks planetside. This little gimmick has taken me a bit to get used to but I think it works. It’s neat that nobody pretends to know how any of this stuff operates. It’s nice that the audience isn’t the [...]

Stargate Universe is a popular little Sci-Fi effort that seems to have a certain strange attraction to both Nix and I and you, out there, in the dark beyond the tubes. Some people like it, some people hate it, some people just watch, uncertain of how it as yet computes in their estimation. I want it to be good. How’s that?
This weeks episode, titled “Earth” looks a bit different. By Earth it looks like we have a tease referring to some possibility of the return of Destiny’s passengers to it. Obviously, the show would end if the principal castaways could return home. It would however be an interesting and creative way to get some of the less acting efficient cast members off the show without having them fall into a recycler, smushed in an airlock or devoured screaming by something scaly, oily and beautifully grotesque that is lurking under someones cot. Lets hope there are happy or at least [...]

Well, this, er, is not going to prove very fruitful. Apparently tired of all the “Stargate: Universe” bashers showing up at his blog and leaving, well, SGU bashing comments, SGU producer/writer Joseph Mallozzi has responded with a long statement on his blog.
Besides addressing the overall negativity of “Stargate” loyalists who haven’t seen the light, Mallozzi also addresses some of the more hostile reactions to the show. Unfortunately, I’m afraid he’s only going to keep the “conflict” going by addressing it, which is probably not the intent.
On the negativity towards his cast/crew:
Sadly, the negativity has also taken its toll on one-time regular Sherry, proud mother of actor Brian J. Smith, who, surprised and saddened by some of the hostility here, has elected to no longer read the blog. Also, after several months of connecting with fandom online, Brian is stepping away from his popular twitter account for much the same reason. Some of the very same fans [...]

As I have been dutifully preparing to write this weeks episode recap of SGU, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of a particular moment or event in the story to launch from. Did anything really happen at all in “Water”? I don’t think so. The episode didn’t exactly tank. It wasn’t horrible. It just seemed like, narratively speaking, the show was just ah, treading water. Television shows have a proud history of doing this, usually for the purposes of setting us up for some important future development. I’m really not sure what that important development could be here.
Once again, the nearly helpless crew of the outward bound Destiny have a problem. They are running out of water. They had a whack of it but now a whack is gone. Who is drinking the water? Man, that’s got to be some old water. I’m not sure I’d be very keen to drink it anyway. Guards are assigned to the [...]

Continuing in the theme of a ship without supplies, “Stargate Universe” brings us this weeks upcoming episode called “Water”.
As faithful readers may know, I was quite taken with last weeks “Light” episode where the good ship Destiny was hell bent on a close encounter with a Star. Of course, disaster was averted by whatever is in there driving the thing. My question is, wouldn’t it be cool if there was actually a pilot and not some boring old A.I.? Picture some ageless and lonely demi-god, strapped to the helm, destined to fly the ship forever among the stars like the cursed captain of the Flying Dutchman?
Or maybe I’m getting carried away. Here’s a glimpse of this weeks dilemma. Thanks Io9.

Amidst the early episode cheese, boobs and startup fumbling in “Stargate Universe”, I detected faint traces of fascinating Sci-Fi possibilities. In the 5th episode of SGU, I think we finally have what we’ve been waiting for.
I’ve never watched Stargate before as a television series, so I’m basing my opinions on the show solely on what Universe is offering all by itself and not comparing it to any previous incarnation. Does it stand up to previous Stargate shows? I have no idea. Has it begun to work as an interesting and even addictive Sci-Fi drama series all by itself? Oh yes indeed. If last night’s episode, titled “Light” is how we are to proceed with things from now on, to build on, then there’s truly something here worth my time and yours. Not every show has their socks together right out of the gate. Universe has had some problems with over the top acting, the absence of a strong female voice [...]

Oh you knew it was coming. Here I was, innocently studying the last episode of SGU (Darkness), pen in hand, scribbling notes for further intelligent discussion when Blamo!, out came the Boobs. And not just any boobs. Gone was the tension I was experiencing contemplating the poor lost castaways, marooned and airless, followed by lightness and now on a smack-down course with a big ball of fusion. Instead, it was chest high closeup shots of a really magnificent Sci-Fi rack courtesy of the lovely and talented Canadian beauty Julie Anderson playing Vanessa James. I now have tension of a different sort.
I have dug through the mighty data vault here at SciFiCool to bring you more delightful sights of the beautiful and gifted female cast members of Stargate Universe. Enjoy them below.

It looks like things are not going well for our “Stargate: Universe” crew. After last week’s slingshot-gone-awry episode, they’re now headed right into the sun. Oops. Here are promos for this week’s episode, “Light”. So, besides the prospect of everyone dying, this episode also features Scott and Chloe getting their freak on. Eli will not be pleased.
Destiny is on a seemingly unalterable collision course with a star, and despite finding three suitable planets, Colonel Young tells everyone that only seventeen people can go in the shuttle and a lottery will determine their fate.

Welcome to the episode 4 recap. When we last left Dr. Rush, Eli Wallace, Colonel Young and friends aboard the starship Destiny, they had just figured out that whole breathable air thing. Oxygen is good.
Other than the life support conditions aboard the Destiny, there’s not a lot of other things going on as far as moving the story along. In this episode, it’s power and darkness that the crew has to deal with. People have been wandering around the ship and pushing buttons. This is a logical thing for them to be doing. I like logic. Unfortunately however, the Destiny doesn’t have, or doesn’t seem to have, a lot of juice for these sorts of activities. Dr. Rush spends a lot of time wandering around yelling at people. He’s really cranky. The crew is still doing things like they were fishing around at the buffet on the Love Boat. I know I’m harping on this, but to me this is [...]

Here are two more reasons to watch “Stargate: Universe” — Alaina Huffman and Elyse Levesque are on the cover of “Steppin’ Out” magazine. I have no idea what the magazine does, or where it’s steppin’ out to, but it can’t be all bad if it’s giving props to “SGU”, right? Magazine cover featuring the two lovely ladies below.

Well, SGU is certainly being discussed around these parts. It seems that despite the early mixed reaction, Sci-Fi kids are tuning in to the tale of the fateful trip through a Stargate less traveled.
Bucking the usual trend of ratings dropping after the premiere episode, SGU ratings are up for last weeks episode that featured some of our fearless castaways trekking around in the sand, getting all dramatic. Viewership is up 4% overall but in the critical 18-49 year old group, SGU is up 22%. In the 25-54 group, which seems to strangely overlap, eyeballs are up 13%. In total, about 2.5 million people were watching that cross in the sand. DVR data is not in yet and of course, the show being on a Friday, I imagine a ton of folks recorded it. This is the best ratings any Stargate program has received since 2005. Well I’m pleased. I eagerly await this Fridays episode. Will the cheese continue? Thanks Scifiwire.

Take a glance at our reader comments section on our “Stargate: Universe” posts, and you’ll start to notice a couple of patterns: loyal fans of the previous two “Stargate” shows have almost no interest in the new “Universe” show besides going out of their way to call it every name in the book; meanwhile, non-fans of the franchise have grappled onto “Universe” but in doing so are making it be known that the previous two incarnations were utter shit in their opinion. And then there are those guys in-between, like me.
As a fan of “Stargate: SG1″ (I have seen every single episode more than once), but only a casual fan of “Stargate: Atlantis” (more of the same to me, but without the characters I loved), I approached “Universe” with great trepidation. Then the pilot aired, and as you can tell from my review, I dug it. In my opinion it has great potential, and its pluses far outweigh any [...]

Yes, it’s another Stargate Universe post. SGU is the Sci-Fi flavour of the week kids and I am still feeling the love, so let’s just ride that wave shall we?
Here we have the lovely and talented Ming-Na, soon to be doing something steamy on SGU and the charismatic Lou Diamond Phillips in an interview at Planet Hollywood in New York City. At first I wasn’t sure what they were talking about in the interview and the way Ming-Na was looking at Lou was sort of, umm, interesting. I’ve done a ton of (amateur) acting in my day and production romances or flirtations are pretty common. Chemistry is science! Thanks Scifiwire for being there.

Welcome to your weekly dose of Stargate Universe recapture. I am your host, Endy and I will guide you truthfully and faithfully through the myriad hazards of the weekly Sci-Fi program SGU.
Well, this is either the third episode of the show or the 2nd part of the 3 hour premiere of SGU smushed together under the title of “Air”. By air I’m assuming that they mean that there was little to breathe. If there is some other subtle play of words in that title I’m too dense to see it. I’m sure a lovely constructive comment or two will assist me with this. When last we left the marooned group of folks that now make up the passengers (I can’t call them crew yet) of the starship Destiny, a group of them, notably Dr. Rush, Mathew Scott, Eli Wallace and Roland Greer were just about to set forth through the Stargate to a desert planet to find some goop to [...]

This is apparently a sneak preview of the drama in the desert from Episode 3 of SGU. There seems to be a lack of morale amongst the team members. That and it looks like young Mathew Scott is seeing things.
I’m totally pumped to see the next episode and I am fully prepared to go all fan boy all over this bad boy if it’s any good long term. I’m long overdue for another Sci-Fi obsession. See episode 2 this Friday at a time zone in your particular continuity. Below the episode 2 tease is a promo for the show in general with scenes I have not encountered yet in the GWN (great White North) Thanks io9
