He’s baaaaaaaaaack! Yup, even being cut in half won’t stop Sith dude Darth Maul from returning to the land of the living to menace those Jedi types. After all, it’s not like the Emperor himself has died and come back and died and come back what, a billion times already? If you’ve been keeping tabs on the Cartoon Network’s “The Clone Wars” animated saga, then you’ll be seeing the return of Darth Maul when the show returns sometime in January 2012. This is definitely good news for fans of the “Star Wars” franchise, since Maul was easily the best thing about “The Phantom Menace”, and the guy barely spoke. But like Boba Fett before him, he proved to be immensely popular with the kids. It could just be the crazy cool make-up or the fact that Ray Park who played him is a kick ass martial artist, but either way, he proved to be an instant hit with the kids. [...]

This is news to me, but then again, I don’t really keep up with the Star Wars universe nearly as much as I should, because for me it’s kind of been played out, and I’m not really that interested in heading back to “a galaxy far, far away”. But according to this USA Today story, George Lucas isn’t just releasing “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” as a new TV series, but he’s also releasing it as a feature length movie. More: The feature film, chronicling the wartime adventures of a pre-Darth Vader Anakin Skywalker and mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, takes place immediately before the events in 2005′s Revenge of the Sith. It serves as a kickoff for the half-hour animated TV series planned for fall on Cartoon Network and TNT. About the storyline: In this film, Anakin and Obi-Wan are trying to hold together the galactic republic, split apart by war between a separatist robot army and the good-guy white-armored clones.
I didn’t really follow the Star Wars “Clone Wars” series when it aired on the Cartoon Network a few years back. The whole thing was intended to fill in missing pieces between the Star Wars prequels, and as I wasn’t all that big of a fan of the prequels, I didn’t really care to find out what happened in-between them. But that isn’t going to stop George Lucas from doing a running TV series based on the Clone Wars. The Grand Army of the Republic, led by Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other Jedi Knights, fights the New Droid Army of the Separatists. Word is, George Lucas is doing an animated series, and a live series, but no one has heard anything about the live one just yet. You can watch a better copy of the trailer here.
