Benedict Cumberbatch Will Menace J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Sequel

Star Trek (2009) Movie Image

Well, here’s a big ol “Star Trek” sequel news: Benedict Cumberbatch, star of the BBC’s “Sherlock” (their re-invention of the Sherlock Holmes character) has landed the lead villain in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming untitled “Star Trek” sequel.

Benicio Del Toro Out as Khan in Star Trek 2

But apparently Khan will DEFINITELY be one of the (if not THE) villains in the J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Trek” sequel.

At least, that’s according to Vulture, who says that talks with Del Toro broke down last week, even when everyone (including us) were still reporting Del Toro’s involvement in the sequel. So yeah, we’re looking pretty silly, I guess. But hey, them’s the breaks.

Buckaroo Banzai Officially Beams Up to Star Trek Sequel, Benicio Del Toro May Play Kahn

Peter Weller in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) Movie ImageWell, if you were waiting for J.J. Abrams’ untitled “Star Trek” sequel to become interesting, these pair of news will just about do it.

First up, Peter Weller, Robocop and Buckaroo Banzai himself, has confirmed that he’s officially joined the cast of Abrams’ movie.

J.J. Abrams’ Untitled Star Trek Sequel Gets Seriously Sexy By Adding Alice Eve

British beauty Alice Eve (“She’s Out of My League” and the upcoming “The Raven”) is the first new addition to J.J. Abrams’ upcoming untitled “Star Trek” sequel. The actress has been added to the film, scheduled for sometime in 2013, and will play a character that is new to series cannon. Which means you won’t have seen her character before in any of the franchise’s incarnations.

Abrams Officially Signs on to Direct Star Trek 2

You know, the reboot of the franchise? Well, J.J. Abrams, who directed the first reboot, has officially signed on to direct the sequel.

I never doubted that he would.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with Damon Lindelof, will write the script. Everyone is expected back, including Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, and the rest.

Jack Ryan’s Problems are Star Trek’s Gains

Can barely contain your excitement for that 12th “Star Trek” movie? You might not have to wait much longer. Deadline reports that Paramount has decided to delay their planned Jack Ryan reboot now that there is some major problems with the script, and they can’t get a writer to fix it yet. Meanwhile, the studio has decided to go ahead and move forward on the “Star Trek” sequel first.

Chris Pine has Read the Star Trek 2 Script, Reveals Kirk Will Get a Love Interest

The “Star Trek” sequel (officially the 12th Trek movie in the franchise, reboot status notwithstanding) probably won’t be out until 2012 at the earliest, given that pretty much everyone involved in the first movie (and the upcoming second movie) are busy with a dozen other personal projects right now. One of the people guaranteed to be coming back is Chris Pine, and according to the actor, he’s just now gotten his hands on the script, and he likes what he sees.

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Trek Sequel, Directing, and 3D

Will he direct Paramount’s “Star Trek” sequel? Will the sequel itself be shot in 3D? Both good questions, my man, and only one man has that answer — J.J. Abrams, the man who directed the first “Trek” reboot, and he’s not all that sure about the answers himself. Apparently the script still hasn’t been finished, so Abrams is hesitant to make any major announcements/decisions until he sees said script.

Zachary Quinto Assures Trekkies He’ll be in Trek 12. Like, Duh.

As I wrote yesterday in my Quinto post about the actor saying he’s going to take two years off from all things “Trek”, there is no way, no how he’s going to miss coming back for “Trek 12″, even if the movie shoots before that self-exile expires. Quinto must have gotten an insane amount of mail about that Wired interview, because he’s now addressed it.

Zachary Quinto Wants Nothing to Do with Star Trek For at Least Two Years

In an interview with Wired.com to promote his upcoming “Star Trek Online” game (available on the PC February 2, 2010), where he’ll be voicing a character not named Spock, the man who played young Spock in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot claims that after this gig, he’s not going to be touching, appearing, or even thinking “Trek” for at least two years.

The Next Star Trek Will Have A Better Villain

While “Star Trek” was, on the whole, a pretty awesome affair, there were a few troublesome moments. The whole ditch Kirk out a porthole onto the Planet Of The Old Spock thing had a faint odour of cheese and I’m afraid Nero the misunderstood villain was a .1 on the tribble scale of soft and fluffy.

Star Trek Sequel Gets An Official Release Date

We all knew it was coming, the inevitable return of those hard trekking space-goers, Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of those intrepid lens flare illuminated crewmembers. I was hoping for next year but I’m afraid we will all have to wait until 2012 in the early summer to see what happens after a crew, fresh out of driver training get to be in charge of The Enterprise, the flagship of Starfleet. I can see the Klingons rubbing their hands together and sharpening their Daqtagh now. Will we get Khan into the game as well? I’m hoping so. No J.J. Abrams officially on board yet. Thanks AintItCool for the news.

Do We Have A Front Runner For The Villain In Trek 2?

Nestor CarbonellApparently, there is a “juicy” rumour that J.J. Abrams and company have one man in mind when they think villain for the so far officially unannounced “Star Trek 2″. Rewinding just a bit here, much of the questions asked to J.J. during the Blu-Ray release party by inquisitive and intrepid reporters is whether or not the character of Khan will be rebooted for the next installment. I think it’s a pretty sure thing.

New Star Trek Guys Talk Old Star Trek, Sequel

The L.A. Times recently caught up with “Star Trek” wunderkinds J.J. Abrams (director) and Roberto Orci (writer) on the Vancouver set of their TV show Fringe, and of course, the topic of “Star Trek 12″ came up. Here’s what the duo had to say about where they plan to take the sequel.
