Duncan Jones, the director and co-writer of this years stupendous “Moon” was supposed to be gnawing away feverishly on the film “Mute” about a deaf bartender in Berlin trying to find his missing girlfriend.
However, Duncan has instead been persuaded to work on the film “Source Code” with Jake Gyllenhaal, about a guy repeatedly sent back in time 17 minutes before a terrorist explosion on a train to puzzle out what happened in order to prevent it from happening again.
So we won’t be seeing “Mute” for a few years. According to the fine fellows at ScriptShadow, it’ll be worth the wait. They have the whole shebang apparently, ready for your e-reader of choice.
Here’s a part of the larger synopsis:
“Mute” centers on a brutish 40 year old man named Leo, who lost his ability to speak in a childhood boating accident. The cautious and perceptive Leo lives in Germany now, where he’s fallen in love with a striking Afghan woman named Naadirah. [...]

Australian director Shane Abbess’ debut film, the noirish gothic fantasy “Gabriel” must have made quite an impression, because Hollywood has taken notice and now Shane Abbess (pictured, left) is scheduled to direct a new sci-fi thriller called “Source Code” for big boy movie studio Universal. Abbess’ “Gabriel” was made for $200,000, but has already made over $1.2 million so far in its Native Australia, and now Screen Gems has bought the film for U.S. distribution.
More about “Source Code” from Variety:
“Source Code,” a time continuum story, was written by Ben Ripley and once had Topher Grace to star. Regardless of the budget, which has yet to be set, it’s sure to trump Abbess’ “Gabriel” outlay, which he raised himself.
Mark Gordon and Lawrence Inglee will produce “Source Code.”
