An Ode to Smallville’s Brainy Babe Allison Mack

Daily readers of the site will probably already know that I’m not the world’s biggest fan of “Smallville”. Okay, so I think it’s stretching it a bit to go nine, ten seasons with this show. I mean, what the hell, “Firefly” doesn’t last past one year, and “Smallville” is already on year nine? That just ain’t right.

CW Renews Smallville for 10th Season

The CW has officially announced a 10th season of their aging Superman show (or whatever it is they call him on the show — what, the Dull Blur, right?). Despite moving to Friday nights, where genre shows usually go to die, “Smallville” somehow bucked the trend and continued to bring in decent ratings for the CW. All the main actors are expected back for the 10th go-round, including star Tom Welling. And why wouldn’t he? If he came back for a ninth season already, what’s one more?

Smallville’s Absolute Justice Scores Absolutely for the CW

If you saw last Friday’s “Smallville” movie event, the two-hour “Absolute Justice”, then you probably weren’t the only one. 2.8 million viewers tuned in for the movie, which featured the introduction of comicdom’s The Justice Society, a team of superheroes fronted by Hawkman (“Stargate’s” Michael Shanks). The movie gave “Smallville” its best rating all season, and was the CW’s highest rated show in the timeslot in over a year.

Three New Clips from Smallville: Absolute Justice

I gotta admit, I’m really, really looking forward to this 2-hour “Smallville” movie “Absolute Justice”, and I’m the guy who gave up on the current season of “Smallville” after the uber useless Green Arrow failed to take out two very ordinary thugs in an alleyway fistfight and had to wait for Superman to rescue him on a rooftop. But man, I gotta say, the movie is looking pretty good, and I’m digging how they’re introducing the Justice Society of America characters, including Michael Shanks as Hawkman. I still don’t “get” how a bunch of brightly costumed guys with superpowers, including a dude with wings and a big ol mace managed to get “lost” in history, but I suppose that will be explained in the movie. Hopefully.

Another Smallville Absolute Justice Promo Shows off the JSA

“Smallville’s” 2-hour movie “Absolute Justice” premieres next month on February 5, 2010, but until then here’s another 30-second TV spot. This is actually the first promo that I’ve seen that shows off the Justice Society of America characters, including a couple of very juicy shots of “Stargate’s” Michael Shanks as Hawkman. The JSA Hawkman, apparently, talks to his mace. Huh.

Smallville Absolute Justice Promo Video and Poster

Okay, I gotta admit, this gave me tingles, and I’m not even the biggest fan of the CW’s “Smallville”. More often than not, the show always seems to be treading water to me, never really going anywhere and just going round and round until everyone gets too old to pretend anymore and move on to bigger and better things. But I gotta say, this short promo video for the “Smallville: Absolute Justice” movie looks very well put together. I also dig the poster they’ve whipped up. I just hope the Justice Society guys don’t prove as useless as Green Arrow. Seriously, that guy is awful in a fight, at least in the couple of times I’ve seen him in action on the show. Michael Shanks as Hawkman looks pretty goofy in his costume, but then again so does Doctor Fate. I guess it’s the whole clashing of “classic” and “modern” the movie is going for. It works, kinda.

First Look at the Justice Society on Smallville

Ha, look, Green Arrow is getting his ass kicked again. Remember when Green Arrow was actually a cool character on “Smallville”? Now everytime I see him on the show, he’s getting his ass kicked. I mean, by everyone. Some chick. Some dudes. Some gangbangers. It looks like Green Arrow’s status as “Smallville’s” resident punching bag will continue in the “Smallville” two-hour Justice Society-themed movie “Absolute Justice”. Check out two images from the upcoming February 5 episode below via EW. The “event” episode will guest-star “Stargate” fave Michael Shanks as Hawkman (seen below putting the smack down on Green Arrow), Brent Stait as Doctor Fate, and Britt Irvin as Stargirl. The Doctor’s costume looks completely impractical, though the abs on Stargirl is kinda hot.

Smallville’s Justice Society Episodes to be a Two-Hour Event Movie

Honestly, I tried to give “Smallville” a chance after ignoring it all these years, but after devoting my undivided attention to three full episodes of the current season, I’ve removed the show from my DVR schedule. I don’t know what it is about the show, maybe it’s the complete uselessness of the Green Arrow character (really, did this guy ever actually manage to win a single fight on the show? because he sure looks like the world’s slickest punching bag in the three episodes I’ve seen him in), or the overly goofy Lois Lane-Clark Kent romance, or the unGodly boring Tess Mercer stuff… Anyways, I really didn’t plan to watch another episode of “Smallville”, but this news may change my mind. At least, for one night.

Smallville Producer Hoping for a Season 10

After hearing about a couple of intriguing upcoming guest appearances on the CW’s “Smallville”, I made it a point to DVR the show. Unfortunately the first episode of Season 9 that I really watched was the Green Arrow episode where he went through a cheapie TV version of David Fincher’s “The Game”, and oh my Lord was it bad. But hey, maybe that’s just me. Onto the news.

Michael Shanks and the Justice Society to Visit Smallville

You know, I really should start to watch “Smallville” more. This show, along with “Supernatural” are pretty much the only decent shows on the entire CW network, and I should start supporting it more than I have been. In any case, it looks like the superhero biz is going to get even busier on the show, as it’s reported that the Justice Society of America will be showing up very soon.

Elise Gatien is Green Arrow’s Speedy on Smallville

On Smallville, the young and hunky Oliver Queen is getting himself a sidekick, and predictably, it’s a young and hot little number set to be played by actress Elise Gatien. No Roy Harper, her, so if you were hoping Smallville stuck to the comics this time around, whatsammata, you?

Smallville Clip: The Birth of Metallo

We all know Metallo is coming, and this week’s Friday episode of Smallville will officially introduce the Superman villain to the TV world. Brian Austin Green, formerly of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be playing reporter John Corben who becomes Metallo. Here’s a clip featuring, essentially, the “birth” of Metallo.

Smallville Season 9 Premiere Clips

Smallville Season 9 (nine seasons!!!) starts up again tomorrow, Friday, with the episode “Savior”. Four clips from that episode below.

Smallville Season 9 Premiere Episode Promos and TV Spot

Boy, it’s a good thing Lois Lane is always knocked out when Superman is around, huh? Or else she might discover that he was, in actuality, mild-mannered newspaper man Clark Kent from the farm. Or something like that. Not sure where they’re going with the Smallville Season 9, but it looks like Metallo (Brian Austin Green) is the villain for the season premiere. More promo images than you can shake a Kryptonite at below.

Official Look at Smallville’s Superman in his Super Suit

The CW already showed off a glimpse of Superman’s new spanky super suit in an earlier promo video, but here’s the official look at it. I’m not sure what ol Supes is doing spraypainting that big S on his chest, it looks like some tagger art. Oh well, I suppose he has his reasons. Maybe this is all part of his, “Convince people Superman is going to snatch your children and burglarize your house” look. I could be wrong, of course.
