Honestly, I tried to give “Smallville” a chance after ignoring it all these years, but after devoting my undivided attention to three full episodes of the current season, I’ve removed the show from my DVR schedule. I don’t know what it is about the show, maybe it’s the complete uselessness of the Green Arrow character (really, did this guy ever actually manage to win a single fight on the show? because he sure looks like the world’s slickest punching bag in the three episodes I’ve seen him in), or the overly goofy Lois Lane-Clark Kent romance, or the unGodly boring Tess Mercer stuff… Anyways, I really didn’t plan to watch another episode of “Smallville”, but this news may change my mind. At least, for one night.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the CW likes the two Geoff Johns-penned Justice Society episodes so much that instead of showing them as separate standalone episodes throughout the season, they will instead take both episodes [...]

After hearing about a couple of intriguing upcoming guest appearances on the CW’s “Smallville”, I made it a point to DVR the show. Unfortunately the first episode of Season 9 that I really watched was the Green Arrow episode where he went through a cheapie TV version of David Fincher’s “The Game”, and oh my Lord was it bad. But hey, maybe that’s just me. Onto the news.
“Smallville” producer Kelly Souders tells Entertainment Weekly that she and the gang over at “Smallville” would really like to return for a tenth season. Or as Soulders puts it:
“We are really, really pushing for season 10. We really hope it happens.”
From what I can tell, at this point in the show Clark Kent is running around Metropolis as some kind of black trenchcoat wearing vigilante (sans mask), and is apparently so fast no one can tell what he looks like. Meanwhile, his acquaintances get into trouble and stuff.
The good news is that ratings [...]

You know, I really should start to watch “Smallville” more. This show, along with “Supernatural” are pretty much the only decent shows on the entire CW network, and I should start supporting it more than I have been. In any case, it looks like the superhero biz is going to get even busier on the show, as it’s reported that the Justice Society of America will be showing up very soon.
According to IGN, a version of the Justice Society (my guess is they’ll dump the “America” part — don’t wanna piss of those sensitive non-Americans) consisting of Hawkman, Dr. Fate, and Stargirl will be making their appearances on the show very soon, courtesy of comic book writer Geoff Johns, who will be penning the episode.
And get this, “Stargate” fans: Michael Shanks, Dr. Daniel Jackson himself, will be playing Hawkman, wings and giant mace and all. This probably makes Smallville the, oh, 50th or so sci-fi-ish series that Shanks has [...]

On Smallville, the young and hunky Oliver Queen is getting himself a sidekick, and predictably, it’s a young and hot little number set to be played by actress Elise Gatien. No Roy Harper, her, so if you were hoping Smallville stuck to the comics this time around, whatsammata, you?
The sexy new Speedy takes her spot besides Green Arrow in the sixth episode of the current season, titled “Crossfire”.
OLIVER TAKES DC COMICS’ CHARACTER SPEEDY UNDER HIS WING — Oliver tries to help a young street girl, Mia AKA Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him. Lois asks Clark to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team. Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue also star. Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead.

We all know Metallo is coming, and this week’s Friday episode of Smallville will officially introduce the Superman villain to the TV world. Brian Austin Green, formerly of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be playing reporter John Corben who becomes Metallo. Here’s a clip featuring, essentially, the “birth” of Metallo.
Smallville continues its 9th season with the episode “Metallo” this Friday, October 2nd on the CW.
BTW: How ironic is it that BAG played a futuristic freedom fighter battling cyborg machines in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but now he’s essentially playing a cyborg in Smallville? Ah, inspired casting.

Smallville Season 9 (nine seasons!!!) starts up again tomorrow, Friday, with the episode “Savior”. Four clips from that episode below.
Clark decides that he is ready to start his training at the Fortress of Solitude to become ‘Superman’. However, the spirit of Jor-El insists that he return to Metropolis to cut his ties with the people he knows before he begins. Lois reappears in the city with no recollection of vanishing to the future. Her investigation into a monorail crash brings her into contact with a new reporter named John Corben. John is opposed to the “Red and Blue Blur”, and has a secret power and identity himself. Meanwhile, Chloe’s friendship with Clark deteriorates when he refuses to use the Legion ring to go back in time to save Jimmy. Elsewhere, Oliver turns down a dark path in his quest to rid the world of evil. General Zod makes his entrance at the Luthor mansion before Tess.
I mentioned it before, but [...]

Boy, it’s a good thing Lois Lane is always knocked out when Superman is around, huh? Or else she might discover that he was, in actuality, mild-mannered newspaper man Clark Kent from the farm. Or something like that. Not sure where they’re going with the Smallville Season 9, but it looks like Metallo (Brian Austin Green) is the villain for the season premiere. More promo images than you can shake a Kryptonite at below.
And oh yeah, in other Smallville news, Julian Sands has been cast as Supe’s dad, Jor-El.
Season 9 of Smallville returns to the CW on Friday, September 25th at 8/7 central.
And apparently Superman is now also a narcissistic vandal, since he’s going around burning his “S” into doors to mark his passing. Unless, of course, that big burning “S” was just a happy accident. I’m just sayin’.

I’m not sure what ol Supes is doing spraypainting that big S on his chest, it looks like some tagger art. Oh well, I suppose he has his reasons. Maybe this is all part of his, “Convince people Superman is going to snatch your children and burglarize your house” look. I could be wrong, of course.
Smallville’s Season 9 begins September 25th on the CW.

With Smallville Season 9 shaping up to be the biggest year to date for the little Superman show that could, here’s your chance to catch up on the previous Season 8 when it flies onto DVD shelves everywhere August 25th on DVD and Blu-ray from Warner Bros. Home Video.
There’s a new reporter at the Daily Planet: Clark Kent, who shares a workspace with Lois Lane. There’s a new hero in Metropolis, too. No one knows who he is. But Jimmy Olsen was on the scene of one of the do-gooder’s exploits, and he snapped a blurred photo of the hero in superspeed action — a hero everyone now calls the Red-Blue Blur. Red-jacketed, blue-shirted Clark Kent draws closer to his Superman destiny in the exciting 22-episode, 6-disc Season 8 of Smallville. Another Kryptonian destiny also takes shape.
A few days ago I posted those spy set photos someone shot of star Tom Welling in his new super suit for the show. I was waiting for someone to demand I take them down, but no one ever did, and now I know why: this latest trailer for Smallville Season 9 pretty much shows the suit. Oh well.
Tom Welling and company return for the ninth (yes, ninth!) season of Smallville September 25th on the CW.
And check it out, apparently Supes finally gets some Lois Lane lovin’. Hey, it’s about time the guy gets some action. Plus, he did eventually knock her up and produced a super kid, right? Wait, no, that was the other Superman franchise. Nevermind.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, this is your first unofficial look at Tom Welling in his kinda-Superman super suit on the set of the CW’s Smallville show, which is entering its ninth season. I actually can’t see much of anything, but they said it is without a doubt the actor in the suit, so I’ll take their word for it.
Apparently the suit is very controversial, and doesn’t conform to the Superman suit that we’ve come to know. Then again, Smallville is its own thing, isn’t it? Every famous character that have appeared on it hasn’t exactly been comic book-approved, so I don’t see why Superman’s suit would be any different. Then again, all I see here are silhouettes.

With the networks officially kicking off their upfront presentations this month, we’ve now gotten official (and in some cases, semi-official) confirmations about which shows are coming back, which ones are gone, and what new offerings will be available to the genre fans out there. The schedule for the upfronts are: FOX’s begins today, followed by ABC on Tuesday, and CBS on Wednesday. NBC already did theirs earlier this month.
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED WHEN APPROPRIATE
NBC:
It was recently confirmed that Chuck will return for a third, albeit shorter season (more info here), while Heroes will also be back for a fourth season. Meanwhile, the fantasy/parallel Earth show Kings is dead in the water, and so is the new Knight Rider despite a lot of tinkering. The net’s supernatural show Medium is also gone from the network, but didn’t stay gone long. It’s now at CBS.
New additions include the mind-reading The Listener and the post-apocalyptic Day One.

Let’s face it, the CW doesn’t have a whole lot of shows for genre fans, unless of course you’re one of those people who loves his Smallville next to his 90210 or one of the network’s other gazillion shows about rich teenagers having promiscuous sex with each other. But it does have Supernatural and Smallville, both of which have been officially renewed for another season.
Of note is the aging superhero show Smallville, which enters its ninth season with the re-signing of star Tom Welling, reports THR. Obviously there wouldn’t be a ninth season without Clark Kent aka Superman, so I would imagine Mister Welling has gotten himself paid quite handsomely to return once again. At this rate, Clark Kent will have fought every single one of his comic book villains without ever having donned his boy scout uniform.
The brothers Winchester, meanwhile, will return for a fifth season over at Supernatural, which is pretty much the only show on the network [...]

Seriously, who is Clark Kent going to be fighting next on Smallville, midgets from outer space? The show is already in its eight season, with a ninth season on the horizon, and word from Entertainment Weekly is that Tom Welling, the show’s star, is “close” to signing on for a ninth season, but the deal is still a work in progress. Translation: If they want him, they better pay him a hell of a lot of money per episode, because at this point is there really any reason to do another season of Smallville except to squeeze as much blood out of this stone as possible?
From EW:
Yes, there’s news, and it’s good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well-placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I’m told they’re just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor’s driveway, or just unload [...]

Unlike the CW, which has renewed their aging (oh God it’s so aging) “teen” superhero show for an eighth (and to most people with common sense, wholly superfluous) year, the creators of Smallville knows when to get the hell out. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who created the show seven years ago, have decided to abandon ship and move on to bigger and better things. Add this to the emergency shuttle launch of some of the show’s other big names, like Kristin Kreuk and Lex Luthor himself, and Smallville is looking like the dinner guest who doesn’t know when it’s time to leave.
Gough and Millar sent out this letter to the masses:
As the creators of “Smallville” we look back at 7 amazing years. We look back at 152 episodes. We look back knowing that the show will continue into Season 8 without us. After much heartache and debate we have decided it is time for us to move on.

I’ve already said it, so I hope it doesn’t sound too much like a broken record, but I don’t see the point in keeping Smallville on the air for an eight season. I mean, seriously, folks, what can you find out or learn about Superman and his days back on the farm that you haven’t learned in the preceding seven years? At this point, it’s just beating an old horse to death, which is probably why two regulars on the show have asked for downtime, and will only be making cameos in the eighth season, while a third character will actually die — as in, for good. Can it be the show? Just kidding! Read on.
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello has the news:
Question: Now that we know that Smallville’s coming back next season, when will we find out which cast members will be returning? — Kirsten
Ausiello: You’ll find out right this second (Warning: This spoiler will dramatically and suddenly accelerate, climb, [...]

Okay, so I could probably do without an eighth season of Smallville. And in fact, everyone was expecting Season 7 to be the end. But seriously, how long can Clark Kent justify spending all this time on the farm, while there are wars and terrorists and what have you running around that his powers could sure be pretty decent against? But I digress. The CW has announced today that they have renewed Smallville for an eighth season, and at the same time, renewed Supernatural for a fourth season.
More of Supernatural I can get behind, but even that show, I think, is starting to wind down. Although to be sure, I am DYING to find out how they’re going to keep Dean from going to hell. Should be fun.
But Smallville — eh, I don’t know, it sort of stopped being cool after Clark graduated high school and unfathomably still stayed at the farm, while the producers kept writing in different people [...]

People.com breaks the news that Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has joined the cast of The CW’s aging “Smallville” as Supergirl. The news came on Wednesday, and the attractive Vandervoort will be quickly joining the established “Smallville” cast of Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore in Vancouver as early as next week for her first scenes. In the show, Supergirl will be introduced to viewers as Kara, Clark’s cousin, who was born on Krypton and has all of Clark’s powers plus the ability to fly. She will also apparently have some romance with cub reporter Jimmy Olsen (Ashmore).
“She’s a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude,” Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. “We’ve wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent’s cousin, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be the obedient one!”
Since mid-May, when DC Comics approved of introducing Supergirl to the Smallville series, creators Gough and Miles Millar have seen hundreds [...]
