Skyline DVD and Blu-ray Cover Art and Specs

Nix January 24, 2011

Admittedly, I was a little disappointed with the Brothers Strause’s “Skyline”. It had its moments, but overall, I really expected more out of it. Oh well, maybe the sequel will be better? So what are the chances of a sequel? Not bad, actually. Made for $10 million (“low budget” in Hollywood terms), the film has grossed over $65 million worldwide, with $43 million of that coming from overseas. In my book, when your movie grosses six-times what you put into making it, that’s a hit. Or at least, a pretty good excuse to make a sequel. Until then, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will be releasing the film on Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital Download and On-Demand on March 22, 2011. Cover art and specs below. It was supposed to be a simple birthday weekend in Southern California. But when sunrise arrives two hours early in the form of a haunting light from an unknown source, a group of friends watch in terror… Continue Reading »

Skyline Producers Respond to Criticism, Talks Skyline 2

Nix November 22, 2010

So, uh, apparently not a whole lot of you people liked the Brothers Strause’s “Skyline”, if the comments in our review of the film are any indication. (Read them in all their hateful glory here.) I personally thought the film was okay, even entertaining to a point, but then again, I have very, very low expectations for a movie about invading aliens that suck their victims up through a vacuum into their motherships. Still, even I was a little displeased with the awful characters and seemingly pointless running around the building trying to escape “plot”. In an interview with Cinematical, “Skyline” writers/producers Liam O’Donnell and Joshua Cordes took time out to defend their movie against the masses. The boys seem taken aback by the backlash, and seem to be going back and forth between acceptance and raging against the machine, and back again. Was it the advertisement? Liam O’Donnell thinks it could have been: First off, the movie was marketed… Continue Reading »

Skyline (2010) Movie Review

Nix November 12, 2010

“Skyline”, from the brothers Strause, is the second alien invasion movie to come down the pipe this year, following in the footsteps of Gareth Edwards’ “Monsters”. It will be followed in the next few years by “Battleship” from Peter Berg and “Battle: Los Angeles” from Jonathan Liebesman. And that’s not counting the half dozen or so other alien invasion movies already under development for 2012 and beyond. I must admit that I had high expectations for “Skyline”, which may be my fault, because the finished product, while entertaining enough, left me feeling very unfulfilled. Rumor has it the Strauses are already at work on “Skyline 2”, which makes sense given the cliffhanger ending of the movie. Of course, “working” on a sequel and making it happen is not the same thing; mostly, though, the possibility of a “Skyline 2” will depend entirely on the box office returns for “Skyline”. As “Skyline” opens, aliens have already begun harvesting humans up into… Continue Reading »

Nix September 29, 2010

Thought the teaser trailer for the Strauses’ “Skyline” was cool? Forget about it. It doesn’t hold a candle to this full trailer for the movie. Enjoy, alien invasion lovers. Skyline 2: The Alien Space Vacumn Strikes Back?

Nix September 3, 2010

According to this article, Colin and Greg Strause’s alien invasion movie “Skyline” is so awesome, so downright genre-rific, that film sales and distribution company IM Global is already pitching a “Skyline” sequel to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival, or TIFF to the cool kids out there. I gotta admit, “Skyline” is an intriguing looking movie (trailer below), and out of all the alien invasion movies invading (ahem) theaters this year and in 2011, it’s probably the cheapest thanks to its mostly isolated location (a skyscraper), with much of the “outside world” rendered in CG. Still, a sequel already? I suppose it doesn’t need as far to go to turn a profit as the other alien invasion movies, like Peter Berg’s massive “Battleship” or the expensive “Battle: Los Angeles”. Starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, David Zayas, Donald Faison, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, and directed by the brotheres Strause, “Skyline” follows a group of friends partying in a skyscraper when… Continue Reading »

Don’t Look Up: Skyline Poster

Nix August 19, 2010

Horror site Shock Til You Drop has your first look at the new “Skyline” poster. Yes, I have no idea what a horror site is doing with an exclusive for a sci-fi movie, either. Starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Donald Faison, David Zayas and Crystal Reed, the film’s events kick off when strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame. An extraterrestrial force then threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the earth. They’re coming for us November 12, 2010.

Skyline Teaser Trailer Arrives

Nix August 10, 2010

Check out the first teaser trailer for Colin and Greg Strause’s alien invasion movie “Skyline”. You don’t see a whole lot, but there is a nice build-up of tension, followed by footage of the aliens launching their “human collecting pods” or whatever those things are called. The shot of all of those people being sucked up into the alien machines screaming all the way is awesome. In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Starring Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, David Zayas, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, and directed by Colin and Greg Strause. Don’t look up November 12, 2010.

Skyline Official Site Opens for Business

Nix August 6, 2010

Rogue Pictures’ new alien invasion movie “Skyline” has opened an official site. Check it out by clicking on the image below. In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Skyline is directed and produced by the Brothers Strause (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem…), whose company Hydraulx has provided visual effects for Avatar, Iron Man 2, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and 300. There’s not a whole lot there yet, just an image we’ve posted previously, a synopsis, and a link to some articles on the brothers Strause.

First Look at the Alien Ships of Skyline

Nix July 22, 2010

So I guess it’s pointless to hide it, huh? “Skyline” is about an alien invasion. Check out the new pic from the Brothers Strause movie featuring two of the characters getting an eyeful of some really alien-looking ships in the Los Angeles skyline. In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Starring Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, David Zayas, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, and directed by Colin & Greg Strause of “Aliens vs. Predator” fame. Or infamy, in case you didn’t dig that movie. I personally thought it delivered.
