Olivia Wilde To Add Sexy To The Mashup Of Cowboys And Aliens

Olivia Wilde, of House and the soon to be Sci-Fi Queen of TRON: Legacy, is about to play Ella, the chick lead in “Cowboys And Aliens” alongside Daniel Craig (A replacement for Robert Downey Jr.). Olivia was walking the carpet of the Independent Spirit Awards recently when MTV got their mitts on her. They quizzed her on how director Jon Favreau plans to get the “Cowboys And Aliens” graphic novel on screen in any way recognizable as a followable movie. We’ve got the video. Olivia looks lovely.

Stargate: Universe Second Half Promo Reveals Space Battles, Aliens, and Michael Shanks

Space battles? Honest to goodness aliens? Michael Shanks in an extended cameo on the ship? That seems to be where the second half of “Stargate: Universe’s” first season is headed. And yes, I’m afraid the ship is still very dark and moody, the camera is still very shaky, people are still shagging in corridors, and everyone is still very conflict-y. So if those were things you didn’t dig about Season 1′s first half, I’m afraid that isn’t going to change anytime soon. So basically, deal with it and tune in, or go watch something else and stop yer bitchin’.

How Star Trek Should Have Ended

I’m trying to remember how J.J. Abrams finished up the latest “Star Trek”, but I’m a might foggy this morning kids. Bah, doesn’t matter, it still couldn’t have been better than how the this hilarious animated vid plays out via the guys at How It Should Have Ended. For the sequel J.J., please, less lens flare. Thanks Slashfilm.

Those Wacky Nazis and Their Giant Spider Robot Thingies

Via GammaSquad, here’s a look at a 5-minute short film from director Ryan Nagata, who made the film on a $2000 budget (I find that hard to believe, I mean, they have tanks and stuff!), and is intended as an example of what he could do in case a studio or producer decided to give him the money to make a feature-length film version. Honestly, I have no idea how he made this for $2000, it looks like it might have cost $10000 at least.

Parallel Lines Features Two Great Looking Sci-Fi Shorts

Back a bit, Adam Berg directed “Carousel”, an amazing piece of film, freeze framing in a 2 minute and 19 second tracking shot a robbery gone horribly wrong. It was epic and was chosen as the Film Grand Prix Winner at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

District 9 Co-Writer Chooses Sci-Fi Short Terminus For Next Project

Terri Tatchell, with an Oscar nomination in her pants for co-writing “District 9″ alongside Neill Blomkamp, is working on adapting the wicked and bizarre short film “Terminus” for her next writing project. She’s apparently on her second draft, trying hard to figure out a way to make what you are about to see make sense to a “District 9″ size audience.

New Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor (Who) Teaser Promo

BBC America has released a new teaser promo for their latest Doctor Who, to be played by Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, and Karen Gillan as his new comely companion Amy Pond. The new “Doctor Who” series starts up again in Spring 2010 on BBC America. I’m sure the show will continue its trend of wacky alien encounters, time travel, and what have you. This is “Doctor Who”, after all. The Doctors may change faces, but the show seems to always keep on chugging along.

Frame 137 Short Film, Short Stuff Kicking Ass In Post Apocalyptic Action

The kid in this Sci-Fi short film based on the work of James O’Barr (The Crow) is 10. All the ass kicking he does in the film is his own self, no stunt little people or others involved. Sam Ransom plays Jonny Z. Moms not around so Jonny fends for himself in any way he damn well pleases. It’s shot on that Red camera you’ve been hearing about. Looks awesome. Has a guy named Samppa Von Cyborg in it for god’s sake. I mean, please. Judd Tilyard directs. It’s cool so go watch it. Thanks Quiet Earth.

So Wrong it’s Right: Predator 2 Dancing Outtake

Remember “Predator 2″? The sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie starring Danny Glover (genius casting there, guys) as a supercop taking on the Predators in the big city? Via UGO, here’s an outtake from the movie where the stuntment in the Predator suits get down and boogie. Apparently this was supposed to play during the closing credits, or some such. Later, Danny Glover shows up and gets down with the Predators. It’s all oh so very wrong and yet oh so very right.

Hear Darth Vaders Voice Before The Evil Treatments

Of course, most of you know that the guy running around in the Darth Vader getup in “Star Wars” was not the owner of Darth’s singular bad ass voice (James Earl Jones) but David Prowse, an English man and a fine sturdy lad, but with a voice like Mr Smithers.

Teaser Trailer For The People Vs George Lucas

When I think of George, many things pop into my head. I am deeply conflicted in ways only a Nerd can be. Without George there would be no Star Wars at all. Does the creator of something also have the right to destroy it? Does art always belong to the artist or does it enter the public domain? George believes “Star Wars” is his I think and in his mind it is if it has never been seen. He seems totally immune to criticism, even obvious and virtually unanimous criticism. Or at least so it seems.

Fan Made Trailer Is A Sci-Fi Grab Bag Of Dreams

Warning, the footage you are about to watch and techo-lust over does not exist as a real movie. You’ll wish it was real and you’ll dream of owning and using almost everything in the thing, but alas, it’s all in the mind and considerable editing talents of Jaron Pitts, who put this baby together from scraps of other films for a pretend trailer for the Serbian comic “Technotise”. Apparently, some producer types are looking to gather up some cash to bring “Technotise” to the screen in reality. Problem is of course that any film that actually gets made will look like poop compared to Mr. Pitt’s work.

Neill Blomkamp Gives A TED Talk On Alien Life And The Human Future

Just in case you’ve been “away”, getting some much needed “rest” and haven’t checked out the must see TEDtalks series of lectures happening now all over the place, let me fill you in on an excellent Sci-Fi TED given by Neill Blomkamp, director and writer of “District 9″ a movie where the aliens arrive and can’t or won’t go home.

Three New Clips from Smallville: Absolute Justice

I gotta admit, I’m really, really looking forward to this 2-hour “Smallville” movie “Absolute Justice”, and I’m the guy who gave up on the current season of “Smallville” after the uber useless Green Arrow failed to take out two very ordinary thugs in an alleyway fistfight and had to wait for Superman to rescue him on a rooftop. But man, I gotta say, the movie is looking pretty good, and I’m digging how they’re introducing the Justice Society of America characters, including Michael Shanks as Hawkman. I still don’t “get” how a bunch of brightly costumed guys with superpowers, including a dude with wings and a big ol mace managed to get “lost” in history, but I suppose that will be explained in the movie. Hopefully.

Trailer For Post Apocalyptic Animated A.D.

I think it’s high time we moved Zombies over to the animated world. I’ve seen more than my share of what live action Zombies can do to fleshy, breathing humans. It’s time C.G.I. people learned to share in the pain of getting a good chomping or the pleasure of taking your Mom’s garden hoe and inserting it edgewise between the hemispheres of your typical garden Zombie.
