Journey to Dagobah, the recreation destination for those that don’t need umbrellas in their drinks or swim up bars for fun and relaxation. In case you’re not sure whether you have the stones or not for the balmy climate and the troubling flora and fauna, check out the video from the Dagobah tourism bureau. It sure made my day.
Let’s face it, with a name like Percy Jackson, he better be a very cool musician masquerading as a high school teenager, or the descendant of Greek Gods. In the case of our hero in “Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief”, it’s the latter. Man, he must get chicks. Even if they have snakes for hair. Check out the recently released International trailer for “Percy Jackson”, from director Chris Columbus, who knows a thing or two about launching big Hollywood movie franchises. No doubt everyone involved in “Percy Jackson” is hoping for a “Harry Potter” effect.
It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother. As Percy finds himself caught [...]

So yes, as I’m sure you’ve heard, there’s a little indy motion picture coming out next month called “Avatar”. It apparently cost about the GNP of Canada to produce. In order to help ensure it’s success, the happy elves in the promotions dept of FOX are working feverishly, hammering out videos, images and probably a metric whack tonne of toys and other movies tie in’s.
Now my promise to you is that I won’t post everything I see. Just about everything I gander at “Avatar” related is pretty spiffy, but we must keep order here. If we don’t show restraint, who will? So here is a selection of nice videos released today or within the last little bit that demonstrate clearly that we are in for a mighty fine time at the local “IMAX”. Because we heart our highly advanced Sci-Fi fans from Japan, I will also include some Japanese language trailerage for their scrutiny. The second Japanese trailer looks like [...]

We’re finally going to get to see “The Road”, the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s brilliant and honest story of a man trying to keep his son alive and the hope his son represents, in a world that has suffered a horrific cataclysm. Viggo Mortensen is the man for this role. He was born to it. Here’s a couple of new clips showing how life was before for Viggo and his family and also some evidence of the measure of the father’s strength. I’ve also added an interview with Viggo as he describes his feelings about the book and the filming of the movie. “The Road” is in theatres Nov 25th. Thanks io9 for spotting these.

Wow, I hadn’t even heard of this one until the teaser trailer showed up over at IGN. Of course, DC is pumping these out on a pretty regular basis, so who can keep up with it all? It’s another DC animated movie called “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” based on an old “Justice League of America” comic book storyline, and features a good Lex Luthor crossing over to our universe to ask for assistance from the Justice League. It seems in his world, on a parallel Earth, the League is made up of superpowered criminals.
In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that threatens both planets and, through a [...]

Sometimes when an actor is interviewed for a movie or television show that is about to air, you can tell when they think the thing is actually really bad. Of course, pushing the show is something they are contractually required to do. Lying well is an art that takes time. In the case of James Caviezel and Jamie Campbell Bower, playing Six and Eleven and perhaps Twelve, when they say “The Prisoner” is really good, you can tell they speak the truth.
Here’s an interview they did for San Diego television. They are true believers. “The Prisoner” also stars the triumphantly awesome Ian Mckellen and begins this Sunday on AMC. Thanks io9 for the scoop.

The Prisoner, starring Ian McKellan and Jim Caviezel hits the airwaves this Sunday on AMC. It is going to rock. That’s my prediction. Forget the on and off quality of your recent Sci-Fi fare. Flash Forward, Fringe and SGU might be wobbling, but this show, a 6 hour miniseries retelling the classic 60’s paranoid dream, is gold people.
Study the latest trailer to get a foreshadowing of just how screwed up your head is going to be after digesting 6 hours of life in The Village.

Apparently whoever is cutting the trailers for James Cameron’s “Avatar” got word from high up at 20th Century Fox that the first few trailers were too gosh darn serious, what with all the military occupation, political backstabbing, planet razing, and alien genocide-attemptin’ going on. The result: this new trailer, which sells the movie as a kiddie adventure film, ala some shitty Disney kids movie. You can’t really blame them for hedging their bets. The budget for “Avatar” has soared somewhere into the $250-$350 million dollar range (trying to get a fix on it is impossible at this point, with special effects not even finished yet), but word is by the time the P&A costs are added in, “Avatar” is going to cost the studio somewhere in the $500 million dollar range. Say it with me, now: “What recession?”
Help the good guys kill the locals and rape their alien planet on December 18, 2009.

My favorite clip: Erica stumbling into Father Jack at the FBI, and her priceless quote, “You’re a friggin’ priest???” Love it. Also, Chad the reporter realizes he just sold his soul to the devil, and more alluring V girl action with Laura Vandervoort and Morena Baccarin. Plus, alien wounds are yucky.

If you haven’t figured out what to get me for Christmas yet, allow me to point you in the right direction. According to Latemag.com, Enzo G. Castellari’s entire post-apocalypic saga — namely, “The Bronx Warriors,” “Escape From the Bronx,” and “The New Barbarians” — will be collected, packaged, and sold as The Bronx Warriors Trilogy, courtesy of the hard-working folks at Shameless Screen Entertainment. Granted, these movies aren’t really everyone’s cup of tea, so your own excitement may be somewhat tarnished if a) you’ve never heard of the films or b) you’d rather broil kittens than ever watch them again. Personally, I think they’re fantastic, and I’m eager to finally get my hands and a version that doesn’t look like its been sourced from a second-generation bootleg VHS. I’m sure the visual clarity will make make for a completely different experience.

Having been raised on the old school Trek and being of the advanced age to have actually watched the show while it was still on it’s network run, getting to know a new Spock was a little difficult.
I think Zachary Quinto did a fine job. The thing I think he missed was Nimoy Spock’s very carefully controlled sense of humour. Now I understand that Quinto Spock was young and young sometimes means taking things too seriously, but with Nimoy Spock you just felt that there was a smile always there, just under the surface of that logical mask. It was in his eyes too, that little glint.
So how did Zack Quinto end up taking the reins of the young Mr. Spock? This video tells the whole truth in complete detail. Very enjoyable. Thanks to the fine folks at i09 for the scoop.

Stephen King isn’t a good Sci-Fi writer, he’s a great Sci-Fi writer. In what I’m hoping will be a fantastic return to his epic and massive early “The Stand” period, we will soon be enjoying “Under The Dome”, a story of a small Maine town that gets bubbled by forces unknown.
The bigger Steve’s books get the better they get. For Stephen King to do his best work requires him to get really excited and over the top. “Under The Dome” will be 1088 pages and is going to be a great and juicy read. Book trailers seem to the latest marketing thing and I have to say I like them. It can be useful in visualizing what you’re in for or pushing you over into Amazon or Barnes if you’re on the fence. Here’s the book trailer for Dome, enjoy.

ABC has put out a quickie promo for the upcoming final season of their hit show “Lost”, which is set to begin and end its original TV run in 2010. As far as I can tell, there are no new footages, just old ones from the previous five, including the Kate-Sawyer cage match. Nice of them to include that one, though I’m not sure why. Also, Jack still looks like a total dork.

Good old Nix just posted the international trailer for you and I’ll add this cool behind the scenes view of how “Avatar” was first imagined and then brought to the screen.
James Cameron claims he had a dream where the planet, setting, characters and story came to him and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on that. I’m the trusting type. Less then two months to go before we see what James has been up to all these years. Can’t wait. Via Aintitcool.

In case you missed it, “Firefly” fans (oh yeah right what are the chances of that?), here’s the opening scene from a recent episode of Nathan Fillion’s crime show “Castle” on ABC, which co-stars the oh-so-lovely Stana Katic. The episode was a Halloween-themed episode, and featured Fillion, the male star of the show, dressing up in his old “Firefly” uniform during the opening seconds.
Here’s the YouTube version:

And here’s the Hulu version, with the full episode:

Milla Jovovich’s upcoming thriller “The Fourth Kind” continues to convince me this thing is more horror than sci-fi. Or actually, it’s a horror movie with a sci-fi setting, ala the original “Alien”. Minus, you know, acid-spewing aliens. At least, I think those guys aren’t in here. Check out three clips from the movie below.
Fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up.
To be honest with you, I don’t know how “fact-based” the movie is despite all its claims. Still, this thing looks bloody intense even for an entirely fictional movie, but the fact that it might have some basis in fact makes it all the more intriguing.
Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, “The Fourth Kind” opens November 6, 2009.
