Stargate Universe Recap 1.06: Water

As I have been dutifully preparing to write this weeks episode recap of SGU, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of a particular moment or event in the story to launch from. Did anything really happen at all in “Water”? I don’t think so. The episode didn’t exactly tank. It wasn’t horrible. It just seemed like, narratively speaking, the show was just ah, treading water. Television shows have a proud history of doing this, usually for the purposes of setting us up for some important future development. I’m really not sure what that important development could be here.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.05: Light

stargate-universe-article2Amidst the early episode cheese, boobs and startup fumbling in “Stargate Universe”, I detected faint traces of fascinating Sci-Fi possibilities. In the 5th episode of SGU, I think we finally have what we’ve been waiting for.

Timecrimes (2007) Movie Review

“Timecrimes” (original title: “Los cronocrímenes”) is a small, low budget sci-fi film from Spain about a crazy hour in the life of an accidental time traveler. The movie doesn’t break any new ground when it comes to the subject of time travel, but there’s just enough humor and complexity to make it an engaging puzzle of a movie.

Black Salt …….Monks on a Rampage!

I was handed a golden opportunity the other day and since those so seldom come along I took a long  moment to  bask in it’s glow . Let me show you what I’m rambling about, so you can bask too. black salt

This is Black Salt and I have a feeling it’s going to gather momentum like a Cheetah with hunger pangs.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.04: Darkness

stargate-universe-review-1Welcome to the episode 4 recap. When we last left Dr. Rush, Eli Wallace, Colonel Young and friends aboard the starship Destiny, they had just figured out that whole breathable air thing. Oxygen is good.

Book Review: Under the Dome by Stephen King

The town of Chester’s Mill, ME is changed forever on October 21st, when an invisible force field materializes to quarantine it from the rest of humanity. Not truly a dome as the title suggests, the mysterious barrier is more like a capsule that fits exactly over the town’s borders.

Doug TenNapel’s ‘Gear’ – missed shifts and some fishy philosophy.

gearb_cover

Gear. What can I say? Sometimes things are a hit sometimes a miss. Doug TenNapel is a talented a guy and he’s built up quite a fine stable of works but I’m not sure I would count Gear as one of his masterpieces.

Stargate Universe Recap 1.03: Air Part 3

Scud The Disposable Assassin-The Whole Shebang

scudWell, almost 9 days ago I began a 764 page monstrosity called Scud The Disposable Assassin, the Whole Shebang. It was a massive read that turned out to be a whirlwind of a ride. Well more like a tsunami of epic emotion and memorable & momentous hilarity. I went into this knowing it would be an undertaking but I had been dreaming of the day that I could actually sit down and read in totality the WHOLE series. The Whole Shebang reprints issues 1-24 and includes some extras that further explore the mind of Rob Schrab.

Zombieland (2009) Movie Review

zombielandAh, Zombies. There’s really no better way to spend an evening with your loved one than in the tender care of the recently deceased or horribly infected. Zombies are fun for the whole family!

TV Review: Stargate Universe – Pilot (#2)

Stargate UniverseI am just about a Stargate virgin. I have seen the first movie, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader and I liked it. It had a cool concept and I really liked the whole Egyptian mythic tie-in. Since that movie it just hasn’t been on the radar. I’m sorry. I’ve been a very, very, bad Sci-Fi blogger.

TV Review: Stargate Universe – Pilot

You’ve heard about it, some of you have dreaded it, and others have been anticipating it. It’s the 2-hour premiere of Stargate: Universe, the third series in the long-running sci-fi franchise that helped launched the Sci Fi Channel and now, the SyFy Channel. As you may have heard, the idea behind Universe was to take the old and spice it up with the new. Did it work? Is it all one big FUBAR? Let’s find out together, shall we?

Mini-Capsule Reviews: Aliens vs. Predator 2, Babylon A.D.

Sometimes you just don’t feel like reviewing the whole movie, thus the creation of the Mini-Capsule Reviews category. Up first, the sequel “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem”, and the Vin Diesel mess — er, I mean, sci-fi action film — “Babylon A.D.”

“Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” (2007)

Nufonia Must Fall…. and so shall we.

kidkoala

A long time ago in year long forgotten now, a small but quiet masterpiece was born and it was christened Nufonia Must Fall. The Creator of this quietly infectious grooving little tale  was a multi talented guy that had been very busy wooing the  world of music .

Pandorum (2009) Movie Review

Ok kids. We’ve got a winner. I’ll freely admit, I’m on the team. I love Science Fiction and when I see something good and especially good and smart, it gets me jumping. Since I am a card carrying member of the  old guys Sci-Fi association I am also wary of Hollywood spewing forth movies that claim to be smart, look on the trailers to be cast from the same moulds of old greats like “Alien” or “Predator” and even perhaps “Pitch Black”, only to get to the theatre and find out they only had a plot summary and maybe not even that. They sold us a bill of goods.
