“District 9″ star Sharlto Copley has pulled out of the D.J. Caruso directed adaptation of James Frey and Jobie Hughes’s YA sci-fi alien book “I Am Number Four”.
Replacing Sharlto will be Timothy Olyphant, last seen in “Live Free or Die Hard”, “Hitman” and the excellent Justified for the FX network. Sharlto exited because of scheduling conflicts with the promotion of the “A-Team” reboot, or so he says.
Anthony Machie (“Hurt Locker”) and Evangeline Lilly from Lost have just been added to the robot gladiator epic “Real Steel” alongside Hugh Jackman.
Every since the series was resurrected in 2005, fans have been clamoring for an episode where an earlier incarnation of The Doctor encounters a previous one. But unbeknownst to fans, this has happened years ago, although it wasn’t the 8th/10th Doctor crossover everyone was salivating over. Back in 2007, the Children in Need telethon got Steven Moffat to bring the 5th and 10th Doctors together, with all of creation in the balance. But it’s not just a little seen curiosity, it may also have repercussions for the present season.
The high point of the evening wasn’t the premiere of Marvel Studio’s latest blockbuster, but a bear that had escaped from a nearby circus. It prowled around the parking lot, rumored to have clawed a few cars and generally making it a stressful experience for anyone attempting to see the midnight premiere of “Iron Man 2″. At the very least you were guaranteed to have gotten your money’s worth no matter what you thought of the film.
Check out the third, and I dare say, the best trailer for Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi actioner “Inception” yet. The new trailer features voiceover by star Leonardo DiCaprio, whose character expands more on the film’s plot, plus new action set pieces.
Vincenzo Natali (below) and slick sci-fi go together like peanut butter and jelly. Check out his “Cube” or “Cypher” if you haven’t. With his “Splice” in the can and awaiting a June debut from Warner Bros., Natali has found his next sci-fi project, and it might just be his biggest yet: a live-action adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk work “Neuromancer”.
Earlier this week I spoke about a strong rumour that J.J. was going to spring a teaser trailer on us for a movie allegedly called “Super Eight” in front of the “Iron Man 2″, playing now all over the place. Well, it has come to pass and I’ve got a shaky cam version here for you in case “Iron Man 2″ is not up your alley (almost impossible).
Former “Lost” merc Kevin Durand (who was also in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and the upcoming “Robin Hood”) is in negotiations to join two sci-fi movies: playing the alien villain in Dreamworks’ “I am Number Four” and a boxing promoter in “Real Steel”, also from Dreamworks.
So what the heck is Rian Johnson’s time travel movie “Looper” actually about? There were some contradictions when it was announced that Joseph Gorden-Levitt was in negotiations to take the lead in the movie. Talking to Cinematical, Johnson explains the movie’s plot for all:
