In a Variety article about a possible actor’s strike (what, another strike? Stupid Hollywood, what is it with striking nowadays?), there is an interview with Michael Bay, and a mention that the director was trying to keep “Transformers 2″ locked into its expected 2009 release date. To me, that seems overly optimistic, as the movie requires oodles of special effects and post-production work, but hey, if the director says so…

A sequel to the 1984 sci-fi classic “The Last Starfighter”? Wow, it this turns out to be true, it would be pretty cool stuff. I was a fan of the original movie, and remember watching it and loving every bit of it. Then, as an adult — well, it doesn’t quite stand up, especially the special effects work, but it still has that great, adventurous spirit that I originally loved about it. And now, a sequel is in the works? Say it’s so!

True story: when I was in school, George Takei once came to our class and talked about his experiences living in an internment camp in California during World War II, and it was there that he fell in love with movies and wanted to be an actor. No, really. Anyways, George Takei said he recently “had lunch” with J.J. Abrams, which brings up the question: is he scheduled for a cameo in Trek 11, too?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or maybe you’re not a sci-fi fan), then you know the gang from “Starship Troopers” are back to fight more bugs, led by Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico, now a full-fledged Colonel in the Federation army. The cast/crew, including Jolene Blalock, were at WonderCon over the weekend to promote the film.

Chris Carter and the X-Files crew were over at Wonder Con over the weekend, and they brought with them a trailer for the upcoming “X-Files 2″. Someone was also there and had a camera phone handy, and took this video of the trailer. Check it out below!

Late last month, some pictures from the set of “The X-Files 2″ surfaced online that would have us believed the sequel would tackle werewolves (here). Not long after, the concept of werewolves in “X-Files 2″ seemed to have been shot down by the filmmakers themselves. But were they lying? Check out the image below and judge for yourself.

He is … Tetsuoooooo!!! Yesterday it was announced that Warner, working with Leonardo Dicaprio’s production company, would not just be making a live-action “Akira” movie, but they would be splitting it up into two films. (Which makes sense, actually, as one movie is just not enough to condense all the material of the original manga.) We also heard that Dicaprio may star in the film as Kaneda. So what about Testuo? How about Joseph Gordon-Levitt?

Let’s face it, if you’re not all giddy everytime you hear something about James Cameron’s “Avatar”, then you just aren’t a sci-fi fan. The latest has Cameron himself answering emails from the boys over at Aint-it-Cool-News, where he updates the geeks and geekettes about the current state of his sci-fi epic, “Avatar”.

I am … Tetsuoooooooooooo!!!! You hear that? That’s the sound of Variety confirming a rumor that has been on the net for months and months now — a live-action “Akira” movie, based on the graphic novels by Katsuhiro Otomo, who later directed the 1988 animated movie — is true: Warner Bros. isn’t just making a live-action “Akira” movie, they’re making two!

Keanu Reeve’s remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” continues to add to its cast. The latest addition will make all the Battlestar Galactica fans out there happy, because Aaron Douglas (aka the chief monkey wrench on the Galactica) has joined the cast. No word on what character he’ll be playing.
