Brad Pitt producing a movie based on a videogame? Brad Pitt actually starring in said videogame turned movie? Hey, stranger things have happened. Like, say, a guy name Uwe Boll buying up and making movies based on videogames, and people actually allowing him to do so. It could be worst, I suppose, and Pitt would certainly look pretty good as a Rocketeer-ish badass fighting aliens.
The game in question is “Dark Void”, and Pitt’s Plan B has partnered up with Reliance BIG Entertainment to turn the property into a movie, with Pitt possibly stepping into the main character’s rocket pack as star. The third-person game centers on a a cargo pilot named Will who, after crashing in the infamous Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat they had long been thought extinct. Will and the other humans are outmanned but have a number of weapons and powers to help them [...]

He’s about to get blue in next months “Avatar” and soon will go all “300″ on us in the fantastic looking “Clash of the Titans”. Sources at ComingSoon are reporting that Sam will star in the film adaptation of Radical Publishing and Rick Remender’s “The Last Days Of American Crime”.
Here’s the official synopsis from Radical’s point of view:
In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.
Enter: Graham Brick. A career criminal never quite able to hit the big score, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country and live [...]

Let’s face it, with a name like Percy Jackson, he better be a very cool musician masquerading as a high school teenager, or the descendant of Greek Gods. In the case of our hero in “Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief”, it’s the latter. Man, he must get chicks. Even if they have snakes for hair. Check out the recently released International trailer for “Percy Jackson”, from director Chris Columbus, who knows a thing or two about launching big Hollywood movie franchises. No doubt everyone involved in “Percy Jackson” is hoping for a “Harry Potter” effect.
It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother. As Percy finds himself caught [...]

Apparently, there is a “juicy” rumour that J.J. Abrams and company have one man in mind when they think villain for the so far officially unannounced “Star Trek 2″. Rewinding just a bit here, much of the questions asked to J.J. during the Blu-Ray release party by inquisitive and intrepid reporters is whether or not the character of Khan will be rebooted for the next installment. I think it’s a pretty sure thing.
So ComingSoon has heard a juicy rumour that the guy that would be playing the great Khan would be none other than Nestor Carbonell, who plays the venerable but well preserved Richard Albert on LOST. This is the man that would get the part if filming were to start today.
Despite my love for Nestor, I’m thinking that a few other more known actors would be considered for the role before Nestor, just for crowd drawing purposes. This certain someone would really need to be able to chew some [...]

So yes, as I’m sure you’ve heard, there’s a little indy motion picture coming out next month called “Avatar”. It apparently cost about the GNP of Canada to produce. Now my promise to you is that I won’t post everything I see. Just about everything I gander at “Avatar” related is pretty spiffy, but we must keep order here. If we don’t show restraint, who will? So here is a selection of nice videos released today or within the last little bit that demonstrate clearly that we are in for a mighty fine time at the local “IMAX”.
Apparently uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer (”Transformers”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”) and Disney have been looking at possibly turning the comic book title “Alien Legion” into a feature-length movie for a while now. A live-action movie, at that. USAToday currently has a long article on the birth and status of “Alien Legion” the comic book, and towards the end they mention that a script for the movie is currently in the works by writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the duo behind “Wanted” and “3:10 to Yuma”.
During my comic book days, I picked up an “Alien Legion” issue or two, but to be honest, I don’t really know all that much about it. Here’s more:
Launched in 1984 as the pet project of series creator Carl Potts, Alien Legion has developed a cult following over the years. The series redefined the military science-fiction genre, telling tales of war and space exploration through the eyes of a rough-and-tumble intergalactic foreign legion. Imagine a [...]

To be honest with you, I don’t see how Disney wouldn’t make a sequel to “Race to Witch Mountain”, and according to one of the film’s stars, the original did leave room for more stories. Released earlier this year, the movie earned $67 million at the domestic box office, and went on to make $106 million worldwide. That sounds like a recipe for sequels to me. While doing the press junket for his animated sci-fi comedy “Planet 51″, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said as much.
He told Collider:
I’m not quite too sure about a Witch Mountain sequel. Great success breeds a lot of things, including sequels. The storyline was set up for a sequel, so we’ll see. I’m not ruling it out. I just can’t speak to it because I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to any of the guys up at Disney about it.
From there, The Rock automatically switched over to promoting his other kid-friendly comedy “Tooth Fairy” like the [...]

Viggo Mortensen is the man for this role. He was born to it. Here’s a couple of new clips showing how life was before for Viggo and his family and also some evidence of the measure of the father’s strength. I’ve also added an interview with Viggo as he describes his feelings about the book and the filming of the movie. “The Road” is in theatres Nov 25th. Thanks io9 for spotting these.

Nobody ever says that on the way to get a movie right? It’ll be an EXPERIMENT!
So I did it. I went in the video store and started looking for something that I was sure would make me throw the remote and scream. Some people go looking for movies to entertain them, to provoke their thoughts or just make them feel good. Not me, not on this night, I wanted to see what happens when tons of money get poured into a film that just bombs….I wanted to see the ‘wrongness’ of it all. Yep on this night I was determined to be a gawker at the scene of a celluloid accident, grimacing and flinching but never looking away, not even for a second. I wanted all the horror of it all.

We’ve been covering Roland Emmerich’s “2012″ since it was announced in February of 2008. Almost two years later, the film explodes its way into theater this Friday, and no one and nothing is safe. Emmerich and company ponders the end of the world in “2012″ by way of the Maya Calendar, which depending on your belief, either foretells the end of the world in December 2012, or, well, doesn’t. That’s all fine and well, but the real question isn’t whether the Maya Calendar predicts the end of days, but if the movie was worth your time.
This is your open discussion thread for “2012″. If you’ve seen the film, tell us what you thought of it. Liked it? Loved it? Indifferent?

I am one Sci-Fi fan that never tires of films where the aliens come down to Mother Earth and think that we humans will be as easy to conquer as butter, only to see us rise up and deliver a serious lesson in smackdown.
Within this sophisticated genre, “Independance Day” is a classic of the form, testifying to, among other things, Will Smith’s star qualities, the hypnotic attraction of ginormous MotherShips and the beauty of a tidal wave of mini vans and small sedans rolling end over end down 5th avenue.
The director of this masterpiece, Roland Emmerich, soon to demonstrate how to wreck the entire Earth in “2012″, thinks that soon we’ll have not one but two “Independence Day” sequels.
Mr. Emmerich’s thoughts on this:
“What we want to do in the next – it’s actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc,” he explained. “‘Independence Day’ was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an [...]

However, Duncan has instead been persuaded to work on the film “Source Code” with Jake Gyllenhaal, about a guy repeatedly sent back in time 17 minutes before a terrorist explosion on a train to puzzle out what happened in order to prevent it from happening again.
So we won’t be seeing “Mute” for a few years. According to the fine fellows at ScriptShadow, it’ll be worth the wait. They have the whole shebang apparently, ready for your e-reader of choice.
Here’s a part of the larger synopsis:
“Mute” centers on a brutish 40 year old man named Leo, who lost his ability to speak in a childhood boating accident. The cautious and perceptive Leo lives in Germany now, where he’s fallen in love with a striking Afghan woman named Naadirah. [...]

Director Shawn Levy has revealed more about his upcoming sci-fi movie “Real Steel”, which is being described as “a father/son action drama set in the near future, surrounding the sport of robot boxing.” If that sounds familiar, it may be because the movie will be based on a short story by the prolific sci-fi/fantasy writer Richard Matheson (”I am Legend”, among many, many others), who previously adapted his story into a “Twilight Zone” episode in 1963 called “Steel”. In the interview, Levy says that the movie won’t be an all-out robot action movie ala “Terminator” or “Transformers”. He also confirms that the top candidate to headline the film is Hugh Jackman.
Levy is known primarily as a comedy director, so this will be his first non-comedy role. Which is good news to anyone who was afraid Levy might turn this thing into a PG-rated gagfest ala the silly and over-the-top “Battle at the Smithsonian” movies.
In the original “Twilight Zone” episode, human [...]

I don’t know how the boys over at Latino Review does it, but I do know that they’re one of the more trustworthy movie sites out there when it comes to scripts. Their latest find is the shooting script for “Paranormal Activity” director Oren Peli’s “Area 51″, his latest “found footage” follow-up to “Activity”, which continues to clean up at the box office and turning a tidy (re: humongous) profit from its $11,000 dollar budget. Obviously, “Area 51″ is going to be enjoying a significantly higher budget, which will come in handy because, it would appear, aliens will definitely be making an appearance. Read on below to see how the movie begins. POTENTIAL SPOILERS.
Here’s the film’s set-up:
The film begins much like Paranormal Activity with a dude testing out his brand new handycam. In Area 51, this dude’s name is Chris and he appears to be a typical geek. He has various alien paraphernalia and random computer parts strewn [...]

At some point in the distant past we reported that J.J. Abrams had purchased the film rights to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, a hybrid Sci-Fi Fantasy group of novels that redefine epic. J.J. purchased the rights for 19 bucks, a magical number in the series and quite a steal.
It appears like J.J. is going to give a pass to the Tower after all. His thoughts:
“The Dark Tower thing is tricky,” Abrams said. “The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.” In an earlier interview with USA Today, Abrams added comments that, quite frankly, make a lot of sense. He says, “After working six years on ‘Lost,’ the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I’m such a massive Stephen King fan that I’m terrified of screwing it up. I’d do anything to see those movies written by someone else. [...]

Len Wiseman, either known as the director behind a few of the Underworld films, or as the husband of the even more gorgeous in person Kate Beckinsale, has pitched and sold a story about a group of folks that are lucky (or unlucky) enough to survive what I’m confident will be a wonderfully horrific and soul scarring apocalyptic future.
He pitched to Fox and what was the little nugget in that tried and true Sci-Fi genre that got Fox’s attention? We won’t know what kind of apocalypse it was. Cue scary music. Hmm, might be interesting. Imagine a kind of “Paranormal Activity” (Just saw it, loved it) but for the end of it all. Picture the slow build as we get small glimpses and tiny clues as to what has befallen the human race, now reduced to nibbling away at the pitiful and terrifying remains of a once glorious empire.
If it’s done properly it could be decent. Maybe Kate will be [...]

Wow, I hadn’t even heard of this one until the teaser trailer showed up over at IGN. Of course, DC is pumping these out on a pretty regular basis, so who can keep up with it all? It’s another DC animated movie called “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” based on an old “Justice League of America” comic book storyline, and features a good Lex Luthor crossing over to our universe to ask for assistance from the Justice League. It seems in his world, on a parallel Earth, the League is made up of superpowered criminals.
In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that threatens both planets and, through a [...]

Christian Alvart’s “Pandorum” is a creature feature horror film set in space. In that respect, the movie doesn’t really depend on its sci-fi elements in the least, and its premise could have been easily transplanted to any isolated location that requires a large group of people to be locked away from civilization. The grungy, dark spaceship interiors and its many winding, bulky corridors could easily have been swapped for an underground research base, for example. But hey, who’s complaining? It’s been a long time since sci-fi has looked this dark, gritty, and grungy. And of course, deadly.
Set many years in the future, “Pandorum” stars Ben Foster as Bower, a crewman onboard the spaceship Elysium. Bower, along with fellow crewman Lieutenant Payton (Dennis Quaid), are tasked with ensuring that their ship’s cargo – humans in hypersleep — are successfully transported to a distant alien planet for colonization. Somewhere along the way, something has malfunction or gone terribly wrong, and Bower [...]
