After seeing these images via those crazy kids at Slashfilm I had to spread the word. Someday, if the oceans rise like they are forecast to do, New York and a ton of other places might resemble the scenes in these beautiful artworks from bldgblog’s flickrstream. As you can see, New Yorkers famous ability to adapt has seen the re-purposing of the great city towards a vision straight out of Venice.

Apparently when “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi told complaining fans to get over the sex on his show because it’s gonna keep happening, he wasn’t blowing smoke. Check out some new promo images from this week’s new “Stargate: Universe” episode, 1.09, “Life”, which features former “24″ CTU badass Reiko Aylesworth as Ming Na’s lesbian lover character. The whole sex and lesbian thing? I could care less. But the whole “jumping into someone else’s body and then going to have sex with someone else” angle? That just gives me the creeps. Big time. Surely, this is going to become an issue in future episodes, right? Say, a “No more having sex with other people while you’re in someone else’s body” rule? Or not, because it sure seems to keep happening. What happens if, er, they impregnate someone? Or catches an STD? I’m just saying. For a show that seems to have enslaved itself to being as “real” and “gritty” as possible, [...]

Despite seeing these trailers a bizillion times it still seems like I see something new in them every time, so piled full of vision is James Cameron’s Magnum Opus. Of particular interest is the female Na’ Vi, Netytiri. I’m crushing. Here’s a new pic from USA Today of her blue kitty fineness. Go buy your IMAX tickets now because “Avatar” hits theatres Dec 18th.

I’m all for allowing a show to gradually introduce itself as much as the next guy, but all the survival arcs in the first seven episodes of “Stargate: Universe” is starting to wear a little thin. And it’s not as if they’re even slowly introducing new characters with each episode; we already know everyone that matters, which left a lot of really pointless filler stuff like the characters coming home (okay, I like the Eli homecoming scene, but do we really need two of Young and Chloe?), going to clubs (clubbing!) and bedding the ex-wife while you’re a gazillion miles away on an alien ship, nevermind all the implications of your wife having sex with another man, even though it’s you in his mind, but it ain’t you, if you know what I mean. BRRRRRRRR. That episode still gives me the creeps.

In case you haven’t heard, Matt Damon’s sci-fi movie “The Adjustment Bureau” is currently shooting with George Nolfi directing, and here are some pics from the set. The film follows an affair between a politician (Damon) and a ballerina (Emily Blunt) and a mysterious force that is keeping the lovers apart.
Based on a short story by legendary sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick, the script for “The Adjustment Bureau” is by Nolfi, who also wrote Damon’s “Bourne” movies. The film co-stars Terence Stamp, John Slattery, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Daniel Dae Kim, and Michael Kelly.
It’s due out in 2010.

George Miller is getting pre-production underway for the epic return of Mad Max in “Fury Road”, set for principal photography in summer 2010. George seems unsure yet about who he’s going to cast but he probably has a good idea. Folks in the running include Sam Worthington (everything), Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) and recently the word was that Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, RockNRolla) was a possibility. Charlize Theron has also been mentioned for a part, perhaps as a female version of Max. The Australian Broadcast Company had an interview with George Miller where he talked about the year it was going to take to design and build the cars and the scope of the film (big, bad, uncharted). Aintitcool brings us some pics.

The guys from The Metal Den says they have the first poster art for the upcoming “Heavy Metal” movie, drawn by artist Raymond Swanland. It looks very heavy. And metal. Heavy metal-ish, if you will.
Fincher and James Cameron are going to be Co-Executive Producers on the film. The movie will be split into segments. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film.
The Metal Den says the movie is due out in 2010, but IMDB.com has the more practical 2012 as a possible release date.

So, I’ve never heard of Darrin Dickerson, but according to IMDB.com, he’s been around for a while making short films. His feature-length debut is “D4″, and he’s not just the writer/director, but also the star. That sounds like a tad much for a first-time director to have on his plate, but hey, if the rest of “D4″ is as interesting as this quick teaser trailer, then he might just prove talented enough to pull it off.
A team of ex-military mercenaries is hired by a wealthy doctor to rescue her kidnapped child from a supposedly abandoned government facility. Once inside, they discover they’re not alone, and what was meant to be a simple search and rescue quickly turns into a fight for survival.
Starring Darrin Dickerson, Eric Berner, Clay Brocker, Greg Wilson, ‘Big’ Mike Ulm, Ted LeGarde, Jaimee Gray Simon, Laine Dubroc, Jennifer McReynolds, Jeff Hime, Kerwin Strong, and written/directed by Darrin Dickerson.
Props to QuietEarth.

In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document-until now. Set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where–mysteriously since the 1960s–a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here are some more images from the movie, due out in theaters November 6, 2009. If it can get 1/10th the publicity and word of mouth that the low-budget “Paranormal Activity” is currently getting, lots of people are gonna be happy.
Fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up.
Starring Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas, Will Patton, Corey Johnson, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Enzo Cilenti, Daphne Alexander, Alisha Seaton, Tyne Rafaeli, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi.

Here I was, innocently studying the last episode of SGU (Darkness), pen in hand, scribbling notes for further intelligent discussion when Blamo!, out came the Boobs. And not just any boobs. Gone was the tension I was experiencing contemplating the poor lost castaways, marooned and airless, followed by lightness and now on a smack-down course with a big ball of fusion. Instead, it was chest high closeup shots of a really magnificent Sci-Fi rack courtesy of the lovely and talented Canadian beauty Julie Anderson playing Vanessa James. I now have tension of a different sort.

I’m not entirely sure what “Legend of the Seeker’s” second season will be all about, but it seems to feature lots of scenes with Charisma Carpenter and other lovely ladies wearing skintight red outfits (and even one girl-on-girl smooch!). That’s, you know, kinda hot. Season 2 promos for “Legend of the Seeker”, including a brief teaser for the upcoming season below. The show returns to the airwaves November 7.

It looks like things are not going well for our “Stargate: Universe” crew. After last week’s slingshot-gone-awry episode, they’re now headed right into the sun. Oops. Here are promos for this week’s episode, “Light”. So, besides the prospect of everyone dying, this episode also features Scott and Chloe getting their freak on. Eli will not be pleased.
Destiny is on a seemingly unalterable collision course with a star, and despite finding three suitable planets, Colonel Young tells everyone that only seventeen people can go in the shuttle and a lottery will determine their fate.

NBC’s “Day One” was supposed to be a full series but for reasons unknown, it’s getting the chop down to a 4 hour miniseries. “Day One” is about a group of people trapped, hiding or sticking together in an apartment complex after something invades the hell out of us.
So the miniseries gets to be a big teaser. Jesse Alexander (Heroes, Lost) is the man with the plan and he has this to say on his blog.
“Launching a new scripted series in prime-time on a broadcast network has never been more challenging.
For Day One to have the greatest chance of long term success, a new launch model was needed.
Working closely with NBC’s creative team, I came up with something very exciting. We’re taking the thirteen hours of story that was to be drawn out over as many weeks, and making four hours of spectacular entertainment. Showing it over two nights in a row. It’s the miniseries model. A contained story. Easy [...]

They can see you — and they can kill you! Now doesn’t that sound better than the movie’s official tagline: “Your Government is Watching Out For You”? I think so. But then again, I’m typing this while eating a taco, so who cares, right? Take a look at “Eyeborgs” from Crimson Wolf Productions. What’s that saying? In the land of the blind, the one-eye cyborg will choke you to death. Or something.
EYEBORGS tells the story of a near future where mobile robotic surveillance cameras known as “Eyeborgs” constantly watch everyone for possible criminal activity.
Adrian Paul stars as Robert J. “Gunner” Reynolds, an agent for the Department of Homeland Security whose testimony before a Senate committee triggered the creation of the Eyeborgs. He believes in the system and has come to depend on the robots as a vital tool in the war on terror.
But Gunner is forced to question his beliefs when a terror suspect in his custody dies in [...]

The latest poster for ABC’s new “V” show shows off a side of Anna (played by Morena Baccarin) that is, shall we say, a tad reptilian. The show will air as a four-hour mini-series event on November 3, 2009, before turning as a series in March 2010. Or at least, that’s the current plan.
The new “V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Lourdes Benedicto, Logan Huffman, Morena Baccarin, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.

Yowsers. Why did they cancel “Battlestar Galactica” again? I’m not sure, but someone’s got some ’splainin’ to do. Until then, here’s Tricia Helfer and Grace Park reminding you why there were some pretty awesomely good times on the Galactica before it all went to shit. The only thing missing, of course, is Katee Sackhoff. What, they couldn’t convince her to do the threesome spread? For shame, for shame.

More over at Maxim.
