So what’s it like for Princess Leia after she got captured by the Stormtroopers at the beginning of “Star Wars”? Well College Humor is doing a series of original shorts that exposes what everyone’s favorite Rebel Princess went through during her captivity. Okay, so they don’t come out and say that it’s Star Wars, but come on, it’s Star Wars. “Parks and Recreations”/”Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” babe Aubrey Plaza plays the not-Princess Leia Princess Leia character, but it’s those wacky Stormtroopers and their wackiness that steals the show. Here are the four shorts that have been released so far.

If George sees it, I’m certain he’ll feel compelled to be ah, influenced by it. Which reminds me. Have you seen the breathtakingly perfect video review of “Episode 1: The Phantom Menace” bouncing around getting millions of views on the YouTube? I posted the links last week. I’ll post it again. I’m wondering if George may feel compelled to watch it, or at least the first bit (it’s 70 minutes). On behalf of the Sci-Fi community at large let me beseech you Mr. Lucas. Watch the review. Take the criticism and learn. Come back to us and to sanity. We miss you.
Normally I’d be reluctant to admit this, but I’ve spent a completely abnormal amount of time considering the probability that Captain Kirk’s desert made diamond cannon in the episode “Arena” would have been more likely to kill the good Captain or simply to have fizzled out. Shortly thereafter of course our scaly friend Mr. Gorn would have eaten Kirk’s face, either in the pieces that were left on the ground or, while still attached to James after the Gorn had finished hunting and skinning him. The intrepid Nerds at Mythbusters have also obviously been considering the possibility that the thing was never going to work or that perhaps diamonds aren’t scattered on the ground like acorns. Rocks would probably have done the job if you hit the Gorn straight in the beak. Thank Spock that in the end our trusting Gorn waddled straight into the approximately one degree firing arc of the little cannon. Gorns can go straight apparently but [...]

Last week they took a swipe at James Cameron’s “Avatar”, and this week it’s Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic “2012″. In the episode, the boys go to the local Splash Town-ish water park, where Cartman gets incense at all the minorities there, while all the peeing in the water results in a massive tsunami of, well, pee destroying the park in a “2012″-ish sequence. It’s all very silly and completely over-the-top ridiculous — you know, like the actual movie. Watch the full episode here.

But now, as we humans dump as much crap into the atmosphere as we can and the poles begin to melt, the secrets buried in the ice begin to unveil themselves, revealing, well, let’s let the Onion tell us. According to oceanographers, the Arctic Circle has been devastated by the effects of global warming in recent years, threatening hundreds of men and women who use the frozen tundra as a place to conduct bizarre experiments in human-animal grafting, carry out massive government cover-ups, or simply as a hidden headquarters from which to battle the forces of evil and fight crime. “Last week a giant ice sheet broke off and split my prized underground complex nearly in half,” said Dr. Raygun, a self-described psychotic mastermind best known for his [...]

By way of imaginary time travel, here’s Oswalt’s fictional encounter with George Lucas, who has just informed him of his ideas for a “Star Wars” prequels. The original stand-up routine was pretty NSFW, but here’s a cleaned-up version that Oswalt did for the Comedy Central. It was funnier when you heard Oswalt, a short, fat comedian throwing out F-bombs like there was no tomorrow. Still funny, though, but I would recommend hunting down the R-rated version if you get the chance. This should give you an idea, though.

John Scalzi is a noted and excellent Sci-Fi author (Old Man’s War) who also writes a rather brilliant and often hilarious column for AMC’s Sci-Fi Scanner blog. In this week’s edition, John examines Star Trek films and the design mistakes in plot and logic that make the films as wonderful and campy as Sci-Fi should mostly be. Humourless Science Fiction sucks. Here’s a taste: The Alien Probe of Star Trek IV The programming of this probe is even more simple than that of V’Ger, and could be written in four lines in the BASIC programming language: 10. GOTO Earth 20. INPUT “I can has humpback whalez?” A$ 30. IF A$=”no” THEN GOTO 40 40. DESTROY EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING I’m pretty sure this is not optimal design. Brilliant. I need to buy more of John’s books. Go read the rest of the goodness to be found in John’s column and then get thee to Amazon oh faithful Sci-Fi reader.

After many years of deep denial, Neil Armstrong has finally come to grips with the fact that all those G-Forces, violent shakings and then micro followed by mini gravitational forces he experienced in his various trips off planet were all an epically contrived, many thousands of participants, ruse to flummox the Russians. We are all very happy he has finally seen the light. Thanks to Ralph Coleman, the great detective and Moon landing denier, Neil has finally admitted the truth to himself and to the world. Is he kind of upset over the whole unfortunate adult diaper thing? Is he miffed at the horrendous spacesuit chafing? I can just imagine. The Onion has broken the story and is all over it. A bit of their intrepid reporting follows. Thanks to Gizmodo for spreading the word.
