Watching the first video trailer for the upcoming “Halo: ODST” video game made me hungry and eager for a full length feature made exactly the same way. Think Saving Private Ryan on a hostile alien world, chockablock with frothing, gigantic extraterrestrial killers, sharp toothed and vicious, eager for the sight of cooked human.
Since you, like myself, never tire of the darker elements of Sci-Fi warfare, I bring you Halo: ODST the Directors Cut. Now fully extended with even more visions of the chaos of war and the screams of the dying. Via Kotaku.

Many of you Sci-Fi citizens, like me, get frustrated that we’re not living the life that constantly floats around in our imaginations. Watching or reading good or even bad Sci-Fi can be torture sometimes. I do not live on Coruscant or Naboo. I don’t have a Minority Report style computer interface nor can I jack into a Gibson flavoured Matrix. In fact, here where I am, perched upon the shores of the angry North Atlantic, I’m about to get pounded by an old school Hurricane named Bill and will most likely be living the powerless life for a few days. It’ll be candles and tuna fish for this guy for a bit I think.
I’ve been following Bioware and Lucas Art’s “Star Wars: The Old Republic” for some time now. The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer game obviously set in the Star Wars universe and looks awesome and fresh.
I’ve actually played the “Aliens vs. Predator” games from the ’90s, and found them to be pretty darn good. Okay, pretty darn friggin’ excellent. The latest “Aliens vs. Predator” game is on its way to the next-gen console, and if the original games are any indication, we’re in for a balls-to-the-walls action gaming title with plenty of atmosphere and more than a little heart-pounding thrills. Like the previous games, you’ll get to choose your species of choice. So what will it be? Human, alien, or Predator?
G4 has your trailer from the 2009 E3. 2010 seems to be the film’s target date.

Collider got themselves some snaps of a freaking huge and cool 14 foot tall powersuit from the E3 game convention in LA. This beast is from the “Avatar” game and it’s safe to say I think it’ll also be featured prominently in the movie. Making movie props must be an incredibly satisfying profession. They give you tons of money and you get to make reality out of the figments of your Sci-Fi imagination. What these craftsman can do is alot more art than we all give them credit for. Thanks to Collider for the shots.

Wait just a second while I pull my eyeballs back from the center of my cerebral cortex. I have just seen the best game trailer of all time. “Star Wars: The Old Republic” is an upcoming massively multi-player game from the great Bioware. This game will be a replacement for the disasterous Galaxies, a game I played for completely unreasonable periods of time, especially considering how bad it was. I was a Wookiee though and I grew greatly attached to the big furry fella.
The Old Republic is supposed to be a different kind of massively. It’ll have all the big content of WoW plus a much more story driven experience. These will be stories with lightsabers and attached to a level of epicness no other creative universe can duplicate. I might as well plan my post divorce life now. Star Wars: The Old Republic is deep in production and I assure you that Bioware will not release it until it [...]

Let’s face it, games based on Hollywood movies have always been iffy at best. When they’re based on a summer event film, the chances of finding a good one in the bunch are pretty slim. Every now and then you stumble across one worth playing. For instance, I thought the first “Riddick” game was very well done, although the less said about all those games based on Marvel’s recent comic book movies, the better.
When the first “Transformers” movie came out, there was also an accompanying game, so as the sequel is scheduled to come out, it, too, has its own game ready to roll. Check out the trailers for it below and decide for yourself if this is worth buying.
Transforming cars are just too cool to past up, don’t you think? Even if the gameplay isn’t quite up to snuff, you can’t help but feel a little giddy driving around and just transforming for no apparently reason. At [...]

The funny thing about the “Transformers” game is, um, how do you tell it apart from the movie? After all, aren’t they both using pretty much the same CG images? So aside from the humans, aren’t the game and the movie pretty much the same thing? Anyways. I’ve actually played the first “Transformers” game, and although thought it was mildly interesting, never played it a second time. It was okay, but not exactly addictive, even though I was a major fan of the movie. They are, of course, tying the sequel to a new game, so check out some screenshots of it below.
“Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” the videogame will arrive at your local stores on June 23, a day before the movie itself opens. It will be available for Xbox 360, PS2 and 3, Windows PC, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and the PSP. Basically, if you have a gaming console, you can play this game.

Science fiction is coming to the MMO gamesphere in a big way this year. At odds will be Bioware’s likely great replacement for Star Wars Galaxies, Knights of the Old Republic and the Star Trek MMO. Craig Zinkievich from Cryptic Studios sat down with MSNBC for an interview, detailing how our wagon train in space will work out for us. Included is lots of new video of avatars, starships in battle and ablaze and plenty of spiffy starscapes, some with Borg! Thanks Io9.

Games that accompany movie releases have a mixed history. Most uncontrollably suck. There are exceptions, such as the Riddick game, where a game company can fire together something good in the shorter development cycle. Games worth playing usually take more than a couple of years to make.
In the case of “Terminator Salvation: The game”, we are privileged to have an iconic Sci-Fi enemy to run from as we scream from wrecked car to exploding barrel, guns blazing, followed by our arms and legs strewn akimbo as large caliber weapon fire reduces us to a twitching, red and pulpy mass. Below is both the cinematic trailer for the game, underlining the desperation of the human situation, followed by some gameplay, where we see how you yourself will get to man the guns that deliver the message to those red eyed, titanium toothed killers. We’ll be back! Thanks SciFiWire.

Of course, no good Sci-Fi movie is without a video game and Vin, to his credit, has made sure that the Riddick games aren’t the garbage that usually comes out to accompany a movie release. SciFiWire has a interview up on Vin’s passion for games and what we can expect in the future.

The first Chronicles of Riddick game, “Escape from Butcher Bay”, was probably the very first case of a game based on a movie actually being better than the movie itself. Sure, “Chronicles of Riddick” the movie had its moments, but for the most part it was confusing and overly ambitious for its own good. The game, on the other hand, was tight and awesome, and captured the spirit of the Riddick character the way the movie didn’t even come close to. Here’s your look at the latest Riddick game, “Assault on Dark Athena”, set for an April 7 release.

Sounds like some good times.
Since this will be an MMO, look for some nice social elements like trading mined goods like Helium3 and such. It’s all being put togather by Virtual Heroes, the makers of America’s Army and will feature the spiffy Unreal 3 graphic engine. This news has me all nerded up. Hey, it sure beats Uwe Boll getting his hands on it, right? The game, created by Daniel Jevons, is currently still in development at Union, who also produced games for “The Darkness” and the upcoming “Sin City”, based on Frank Miller’s comics, and the movie of the same name.
The Hollywood Reporter has more on the game and the movie:
“Zero-G” will be based on the game created by Daniel Jevons that’s still a work in progress. It revolves around a major U.S. city being attacked by a devastating, never-before-seen weapon. The studio is eyeing the project as a tentpole.
