Big fan of the “Alien” series? (I’m not talking those “Alien vs. Predator” series, I’m talking about the originals.) Good for you, because FOX is finally set to release all four original movies (and all their various special editions, alternate versions, etc) on Blu-ray come October 25, 2010.
SyFy Channel’s “Sanctuary” is an enjoyable show best described as “Hellboy” meets “Fringe” or “The X-Files” or even SyFy’s own “Warehouse 13.”
The latest hit series from the creators of “Stargate SG-1” makes a date with destiny when “SGU 1.5” debuts on Blu-ray Disc and DVD July 27 from MGM Home Entertainment.
Can’t get enough “Avatar”? Tired of wearing those goofy glasses at the theaters with other smelly people covered in blue paint? Well if you’re in the mood for some 2D blue people at home, you’ll get your chance when James Cameron’s gazillion dollar selling “Avatar” arrives on DVD and Blu-ray April 22, 2010 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Missed the BBC mini-series remake of “The Day of the Triffids”? Don’t worry, you can still catch it on DVD, which the Associates has released on a two disc Ultimate Edition DVD earlier this month on February 1st, and they’ve scheduled a single disc Blu-ray edition on February 22. The film, “an effects-laden CGI extravaganza about a world threatened by carnivorous, man-eating plants – boasts a star-studded cast that includes Dougray Scott (Desperate Housewives), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie; Ocean’s Thirteen), Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy), Vanessa Redgrave (Atonement; Evening), Jason Priestley (My Name Is Earl; Medium), Shane Taylor (Band Of Brothers) and Ewen Bremner(Hallam Foe).”
You don’t have to be a fan of “Farscape” to want this DVD mega set, but it sure helps. We’ve been talking up the complete “Farscape” DVD release (every single episode on 26 discs!) for a while now, but thanks to A&E Home Entertainment, we now have one (1) copy of the DVD to give away to one lucky winner. As they are wont to do, the SyFy Channel has released the first half of their original show “Stargate: Universe”, aka “Stargate: Universe 1.0″ on DVD. Check out the full specs and artwork for the standard DVD and Blu-ray versions below. The big draw? An extended version of the pilot episode, with never-before-seen footage. “Stargate: Universe 1.0″ arrives on store shelves February 9, 2010. And yes, I am extremely curious about that special feature called “[Lieutenant Vanessa] James in the Shower”, for purely, you know, journalistic reasons, of course.
I wasn’t much of a fan of ABC’s canceled “Defying Gravity”, mostly because I don’t like too much drama with my space faring action. Plus, it just never struck me as overly sci-fi, astronauts and space notwithstanding. In any case, I do know there are a lot of fans of the show on the site, and perhaps this will interest them. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing the entire first season on DVD January 19, 2010. DVD cover art and complete specs for the 4-disc set below.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Neill Blomkamp’s breakthrough hit “District 9″ on standard DVD and Blu-ray December 22 2009 (just in time for the sci-fi fan in your household, natch). Starring Sharlto Copley and produced by Peter Jackson of “Lord of the Rings” fame, the “Alien Nation”-esque movie took the box office by storm when it was released, and garnered mostly positive critical reviews, which translated into excellent box office recripts, making it one of the few sci-fi moves released in 2009 that can make that boast. Ahead of their October 13th DVD & Blu Ray release of Richard Stanley’s 1990 sci-fi epic “Hardware”, the fine folks over at Severin Films have produced a new promo video featuring Lemmy of Motörhead. In the video, Lemmy recreates his cameo role from the movie as a cab driver recalling nostalgic memories from the past as he drives through a now dystopian wasteland.
Just in time to capitalize on the new “Stargate: Universe” show on the SyFy Channel, is a re-release of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s 1994 original “Stargate”, the movie that spawned three TV series. DVD artwork and specs for the Blu-ray edition, due out October 27, 2009 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment below.
Shout! Factory just sent over the specs for their upcoming “Transformers” 25th Anniversary “Matrix of Leadership” Edition Collector’s Set DVD. One word: Honking huge. And probably expensive, too.
The boys at Severin have released a three and a half minute video showing off some features from their upcoming release of Richard Stanley’s sci-fi/horror film “Hardware”. The DVD is due out October 13, about two weeks later than the original September 29th date.
Special features for the DVD release will include:
Oh, that rascal Lex Luthor. One day he’s CEO of his own diabolical corporation and the next he’s President of the United States. Then he goes and frames Superman for some impending disaster, and somehow Batman gets involved, as does everyone else in the D.C. universe. That’s the plot of “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” in a nutshell, which will be based on a story by comic scribe Jeph Loeb.
