Now you may be asking yourself, “What? Who wants 177 minutes of ‘Waterworld’? The 136 minutes version is more than enough for me, thank you very much!” Well if you said that, then you’re probably not a fan of the movie. Fortunately for both of us, I am. Yes, I liked “Waterworld”. I don’t care what anyone says, but I thought the Kevin Costner movie had its moments. At least, until they got kind of nuts with all the jet ski stunts and what have you. But for the most part, I dug the film’s world, and liked how they shot the entire thing on water. It was a movie with a pretty good idea, but somewhere along the way, it sort of got corny and kind of cartoonish. Thanks, Dennis Hopper!
Joss Whedon’s fan favorite Firefly TV show never made it past its first season on FOX. Heck, it never really had much of a chance, what with FOX being, well, FOX. The show did prove to have enough fan momentum that it convinced the Powers That Be to greenlight a movie version, but the movie didn’t exactly do gangbuster business, which means a sequel is highly unlikely. Whedon himself has said as much just recently. But have no fear, if you loved the TV show, you’ll want to get the Blu-Ray version of the first and only season when it’s released on Blu Ray November 11, 2008.
Just got the DVD cover art and specs for the upcoming “Starship Troopers 3: Marauder” in the inbox today. Casper Van Dien reprises his heroic role as the fearless Johnny Rico in the third installment of the hugely popular global sci-fi adventure phenomenon. The swarming, killer bugs are back wreaking havoc on humanity in this awe-inducing action-packed adventure also starring Jolene Blalock (Star Trek: Enterprise), Amanda Donohoe, Boris Kodjoe, Marnette Patterson and Catherine Oxenberg. “Marauder” is written and directed by Ed Neumeier, who also wrote the previous two films in the series, and is “presented” by Paul Verhoeven. DVD cover art for the Blu-Ray and regular DVD edition, including specs, below.
Just got the DVD cover art and specs for the upcoming release of Doug Liman’s sci-fi actioner “Jumper”. From Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the movie will be released on regular DVD and Blu-Ray disk on June 10th in North America and from June 16th Internationally. At last, we have the DVD cover art and specs for the second (and final?) Stargate made-for-DVD movie, “Continuum”. Amazon.com has the title listed as being available July 29, 2008, but you can pre-order your copy now. Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Claudia Black returns for a second go-around in a Stargate movie, this time they must stop Ba’al from changing history by traveling into the past. And if you saw the bootleg trailer that was posted a while ago, you also know that Richard Dean Anderson makes a guest appearance.
Here’s the deal with the latest “Starship Troopers” movie, “Starship Troopers 3: Marauder”. I don’t get the point in revisiting it. Didn’t the humans already won the war against the bugs at the end of the first movie? The second movie was just atrocious and tried to change the notion of warfare with the bugs (with the bugs developing body snatcher type powers), and this third one, I don’t know. Sure, the return of Casper Van Dien to the role of Johnny Rico is interesting, but is it … really? Anyways, DVD release date for the direct-to-DVD sequel below.
Well slap me silly and call me Granny! We’ve heard rumors of a re-release of the “Dark City” DVD, a Director’s Cut that would add additional minutes and improved special effects, for a while now. Recently, the film’s writer David Goyer even talked about a theatrical re-release with the new version (read that here), but nothing concrete has ever appeared. Well it has, now, because Warner Home Video has just announced that the new Director’s Cut version will be going on sale on regular DVD and Blu-Ray on July 29, 2008!
According to Gateworld, the second (and final?) “Stargate: SG1″ made-for-DVD movie, “Continuum”, is scheduled to arrive on DVD July 29, 2008, and according to one producer, the film “stands head and shoulders above even the biggest episodes of the television series”. That’s a mighty big pitch. I liked the first movie, “Ark of Truth”, but didn’t find it to be particularly “head and shoulders” above the series, but maybe they were saving up the production values for the second one. We can only hope. More about the movie below.
Now I’m really not sure what a horror site like Fangoria is doing providing info on a sci-fi movie like “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem”, but I’m not complaining. Fox Home Entertainment is releasing “AVP-R” on DVD April 15, 2008, and here is your first look at the DVD cover art and disk specs. The DVD will come in two versions — a 94-minute “R” rated and a 101-minute Unrated version.
