What? you haven’t heard about the Nuclear Holy War ? Then you better get yourself a copy of The Loaded Bible because inside its cover is a primer for surviving the coming evils our times; Vampires. Yep, you heard me right, Vampires…Blood Suckers..inter-dimensional soul thieves.
I know I know, what has this got to do with Science Fiction you may ask? Hell, This IS Sci-Fi at the peak of it’s game! Ok, yeah maybe it does look a bit like horror but trust me it’s not, this is just too weird to be considered horror.
Tim & Steve Seeley wrote this twisted piece of….ummmm…”Enlightenment” and it rides like a rocket full of monkeys on crack. From start to finish it speeds its way through the twisted nightmare that somehow has become the semi plausible future of our America.
“Alien Pigs Tore the Shirt From My Breasts!” Big bosoms, daisy duke shorts, alien pigs & a couple of bumbling rednecks. Sound familiar?
Search your mind; yep it’s right there, lurking on the edge of your brain, squirming around in your vapid trivia space of weirdness.
Could it be Redneck Rampage? The 1997 first person shooter game that sported some wicked tunes by Mojo Nixon, Reverend Horton Heat, Beat farmers and a few other class acts from the Psychobilly artists of the day?
Well it sure looks like it took page from that shiny little 1997 gem, but we’re talking Comic Books in this column not Video games so if you thought Redneck Rampage kicked some alien ass you haven’t seen anything yet.
Fire up your imagination and take a seat because when you sleep tonight the tight bottomed nubile girl gracing these pages is going to have you firing your gun at every grunting alien pig in your sweaty little dreamscape.
Joss Whedon, of Buffy, Dollhouse and Firefly fame does more than put together quality Science Fiction and ah, whatever Buffy is. Joss also writes comics and his latest work is getting the fascinating new Motion Comic treatment. Below you’ll find a sneak peek of how it all works and I must admit I’m intrigued.
There’s not a lot of animation going on here but what there is kind of takes the static out of reading comics, something I haven’t done in a long time and feel guilty about for some full body nerd reason. Joss is alongside artist John Cassaday and the whole “Astonishing Xmen” motion comic will be available on iTunes on Oct 28th. Thanks Mtv for the scoop.

Science fiction novelist and self-professed alien abductee Whitley Strieber is a tad preoccupied with aliens. You can’t blame the guy, since he claims to have been anal probed by short, rail-thin squinty-eyed dudes with huge heads, and that’s never a good experience. Or so I’ve been told. Strieber has taken his alien obsession to the comic books in “The Nye Incidents”, and now Dark Castle has snapped up the movie rights to the Devil’s Due graphic novel with an eye towards turning it into a feature film. If the comic book does become a movie, Dark Castle has tapped Todd Lincoln to direct.
According to Variety, Strieberg’s comic book is “inspired by true events” (um, yeah) about a medical examiner who is hunting the killer of alien abductees. Obviously to believe this is based on true events you would first have to believe that there are actually aliens who exist to stick cold metal objects up the rears of humans. Yeah.
Anyways, More >

Now THIS is where Bryan Singer (of “X-Men” and “Superman Returns”) fame should be plying his trade, on adaptations of comic book movies about guys in exo-suits, not directing World War II junk starring Tom Friggin’ Cruise. Singer will be developing a movie based on the comic book “Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland” and might also direct, though he will definitely produce.
Says Variety:
The comicbook has a futuristic premise in which fighter jets have been replaced by pilots who battle in racing exo-suits. The protag is a genetically engineered racer who learns his bloodline has the power to change society.
Singer and Levine teamed on the project when the four-issue comicbook series debuted at last summer’s Comic-Con (Daily Variety, July 25). The comicbook was created by Edmund Shern, who runs Storm Lion, the Radical-owned imprint that published it. Shern will be associate producer.
Michael Finch is currently adapting the comic book for the screen.

Jericho was one of those shows that I sort of liked, but as it went on, it just got really dull and silly, and I just tuned out after a couple of episodes. What really got me most about the show was just how indifferent people seem to be about that whole “end of America” part, and still kept on with their affairs, money grubbing ways, etc. Really? Eh. Anyways, the show is coming back, this time as a comic book.
THR’s Live Feed says that indie comic book publisher Devil’s Due has made a deal with CBS to publish a comic book series based on the show, which would pick up where the TV show left off. The publisher also promises to answer many of the show’s “lingering questions and is aimed at appealing to the show’s famously devoted fans.”
To accomplish this, the comic book company will be working closely with the show’s original creative team of Jon Turteltaub, More >

Let’s face it, 1995’s “Judge Dredd” was a major disappointment. A big-budget mega disappointment. Okay, okay, it pretty much stunk up the joint, which may be why the guys at 2000AD are already hard at work getting the reboot together for a 2009 start date. Don’t believe me? They said so at their site.
Via the 2000 AD Forum:
Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon!
Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.

Star Trek did it quite often, but they always did it well; Stargate SG1 did a couple of them that turned out pretty good, too. But what about a movie based on the parallel world premise? That’s the idea behind Kevin Sorbo’s new sci-fi actioner, “Paradox”.
THR has the plot of “Paradox”:
Sorbo plays a homicide cop on a parallel Earth ruled by magic who investigates a series of murders committed by a previously unseen means: the power of science. Christos Gage and Ruth Fletcher Gage wrote the screenplay based on Arcana’s three-issue limited series written by Christos Gage, who has worked for Marvel and DC Comics.

I’ve never heard of the comic book “American Reaper” (probably because it’s yet to be published, natch) but it sure sounds like something I’d enjoy. A nice combination of sci-fi, action, and probably political intrigue, given the subject matter. The series is by Pat Mills and Clint Langley, and Xingu Films has already snapped up the movie rights and put it into the pipeline as a live-action movie. If the name Pat Mills sounds familiar, that’s because he was responsible for the comic series “Judge Dredd” and “Marshal Law”, so the guy knows a thing or two about sci-fi action comics.
More about the plot of “American Reaper” from THR:
The story is set in a future where identity theft leads to victims having their minds erased and replaced by those of the elderly rich seeking a second youth or by criminals and terrorists with more sinister motives. A team of special agents, known as Reapers, are formed to track down and More >

I reported on a new sci-fi comic book called “Resurrection” back in January, but now it appears as if some other people think it might make for a pretty good movie, in particular Universal Studios, who have optioned the comic book to turn it into a movie. The story concerns the aftermath (yes, aftermath) of an alien invasion, and how the survivors must try to get on with their lives. Dave Dumee drew the comic and Marc Guggenheim wrote it.
The Hollywood Reporter has more:
“Resurrection” begins where most other alien invasion movies end, centering on a group of survivors trying to take back control of the planet after an apocalyptic invasion.
The comic, illustrated by Dave Dumeer, was first published in October. The third issue in the series was just released.
Guggenheim will executive produce the adaptation, as will Oni Press’ Peter Schwerin. Lawrence Grey is overseeing the project for the studio.
I actually think the premise would lend itself to a better TV More >

Wow, isn’t this ironic? Chris Carter and the “X-Files 2″ guys have been working overtime trying to fool and mislead movie sites about the plot of their movie, going so far as to hide the title until two days ago, and what happens? The entire plot of the movie is revealed via the back cover of the upcoming “X-Files 2″ book novelization! See, Chris? This is what you get when you try to be too clever by a half, my son. To be honest with you, I don’t know why they’re keeping the plot under such wraps. What, Ma and Pa Joblo is supposed to walk into the theater without knowing anything about the plot? That’s asking for a box office disappointment right there.
X-Files News has your “X-Files 2″ plot revelation:
Mulder and Scully are back in the thrilling novelization of the summer 2008 blockbuster movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in More >

I love me a good old-fashion post-apocalyptic movie. Just ask anyone who knows me. Heck, I’m even one of the few people that liked Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld” and “The Postman”. Yes, I liked both movies. So what of it? The latest post-apocalyptic movie headed to the big screen is “Afterburn”, based on a comic book (pictured, below) by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood from new comics company Red 5 Comics. And none other than Tobey Maguire (pictured, left), Spider-Man himself, is planning on ushering the comics into a movie, and will be producing with partner Neal Moritz.
More:
The book, whose first issue hit stands in January, is a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth, whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who for the right price extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone More >

You know, to be perfectly honest with you, I’m not sure how I feel about the whole premise of Virgin Comics — it’s a comic imprint started with the singular purpose of turning their comic book properties into movies or TV shows. The only series they’ve done that I thought was any good was John Woo’s “Seven Brothers”. For the most part, I find their tunnel-like vision of making comics simply to turn them into movies to be a little insulting to comic book readers. Anyhoo, maybe I’m just projecting. The latest news from the world of comics is that Hugh Jackman will be creating a new series called “Nowhere Man” with the express notion of making a movie out of it in the future.
More:
Story was being kept under wraps, but Jackson’s Seed Productions partner John Palermo said it features a protagonist reminiscent of the one Will Smith played in “I Am Legend.” The concept is a futuristic world where More >
