Sculptor Sayaka Ganz has a nice brain. I’d love to scan him. In other art forms, the canvas and materials used to create an art piece are usually static. It’s the art that is dynamic. For Sayaka, he has to imagine and conceive the tools, the medium and the artwork. At a distance, his sculptures of horses, dogs and other things are dramatic and amazingly organic. Close up, the elements in the sculptures are made of thrown away pieces of techno fluff. It’s all an assembly of spoons, wire, toys and other junk. It’s a head shaking achievement. Check out the shots below with special attention to the horses that frankly blow my mind. Thanks io9.

After seeing these images via those crazy kids at Slashfilm I had to spread the word. Someday, if the oceans rise like they are forecast to do, New York and a ton of other places might resemble the scenes in these beautiful artworks from bldgblog’s flickrstream. As you can see, New Yorkers famous ability to adapt has seen the re-purposing of the great city towards a vision straight out of Venice.

If you plan on any extended time travel Easter weekend, may I suggest you tattoo on yourself this list of absolutely must know info for any successful or even survivable foray into the temporal unknown. I say tattoo because everyone knows, unless you get to borrow the Tardis, you’re going to arrive naked, Terminator style. Thanks Gizmodo.

I think if I could have one prop from any movie I think I’d choose this one. Rick Decker’s sidearm was made in part with a Steyr Mannlicher .222 Model SL rifle and a Charter Arms .44 Special Police Bulldog. It packs a punch and is soon up for sale. Expected to bring in bids up to 150,000 at the Profiles in History auction on April 30 and May 1, this bad boy is a bit out of my league. Did you miss my birthday? Thanks Scifi.com

SteamPunk is a brilliant alternative parallel Sci-Fi universe. It’s a place where Charles Babbage and his difference engine ciphers a life’s probabilities by gaslight and all your darkest clockwork dreams are realized. If your imagination isn’t always enough to make these visions come to life, the artists and video makers at the fantastic CGSociety have announced the winners of it’s SteamPunk: Myths and Legends Contest. Do yourself a favour and enjoy the winners there then see what else this fantastic artists venue has to offer, especially in it’s CGChoice galleries.

I love the fact that many of the new cars I see coming off the lines are starting to look like the concept cars I have been seeing on the cover of pulpy Sci-Fi novels for years. The designers imagine these cars, but in the past the brain dead executives in charge of the car companies have refused to stick the real rubber and chrome on them and get them on the road. I have a new Honda civic, with the multi-leveled dash and the cool FI themed blue lighting. It is my little spaceship. When I am alone, sans female, I occasionally make little spaceship sounds as I whiz about George Jetson style. Caution, you can’t have a female in the car if you want to make spaceship sounds. Below is the Audi Shark, a concept Hovercraft that won an Audi design competition. It comes from visionary designer Kazim Doku. It is bad-ass. Put some fins on it and [...]

We love the Germans here at SciFiCool. Among their many talents, they are fine engineers. Gears and sprockets come naturally to them. As does beer. Perhaps a few fine German pints were used as divine inspiration for this fantastic commercial depicting the genesis and evolution of the droid. If the inevitable progression of Bot-Kind leads us to such superbly articulated and lovely blond German robots it will be a fine day for us all. Here is a robotic overlord I can really get behind.

If you’re a Sci-Nerd like me you’ve often dreamt of the day when you are rewarded for your hyperactive imagination with a life aboard your very own starship. I’d be a crew-person too don’t get me wrong, but I’m more Captain material. Lurking through the vaults at BoingBoing, I have discovered a treasure trove of concept art at the beautiful blog Conceptships depicting starships in every size and flavour. I am preparing to insert one or two into my personal fantasies. Me in the Captain’s chair, with my lovely nerdy wife as my science officer. Make it so!
