The SyFy Channel’s Sanctuary is another show I haven’t gotten into, mostly because the pilot didn’t pull me in enough to develop any loyalties toward it. Anyways, the show apparently has done well enough that it’s returning for a second season, which is set to premiere Friday on October 9, 2009. Two new cast promos for the show below.
By the way, is it just me, or do I not see a spunky blonde anywhere in these two pics…?

Sanctuary was another sci-fi show that made the trip to Comic-Con ‘09, though I didn’t get the chance to catch it. Here’s the Season 2 preview video they showed at the panel from the SyFy Channel. The second season of the sci-fi/creature show returns to the airwaves October 9 at 10 p.m. Sanctuary stars former Stargate alum Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus, Emilie Ullerup as Ashley Magnus, Robin Dunne as Dr. Will Zimmerman, and Ryan Robbins as Henry Foss.

Here are some good news for fans of the Sci Fi Channel’s Friday night block: both Stargate: Atlantis and Sanctuary averaged roughly 2 million viewers for their season finales last Friday. If 2 million eyeballs doesn’t sound like a lot, you’d be wrong; for a niche basic cable channel, that’s pretty damn good. Atlantis’ “Enemy at the Gate” series finale episode averaged 973,000 Adults 18-49, while Sanctuary’s first season finale averaged 900,000 adults 18-49.
What that basically means is that Sanctuary has more than sufficiently held onto the departing Atlantis’ audience. This is definitely good news for Sanctuary, which I was afraid might slip in the ratings after its phenomenal series premiere. It now appears as if the show will hold steady, and if anything, may continue to improve. The first season is always the hardest to survive, just ask fans of The Dresden Files. But most of all, I’m psyched for Amanda Tapping. Hopefully Sanctuary will stick around for [...]

I hope the Sci Fi Channel’s Sanctuary lasts for a while. I really like the idea behind the movie, and the fact that the whole thing is pretty much shot on a sound stage in front of a green screen is kinda cool, too. Plus, it has Amanda Tapping, and I’ve always had the biggest crush on her. Anyways, the LA Times recently went behind the scenes of Sanctuary to see how they make the show, what it cost, and other topics of interest. Besides the article, there are some great shots of Amanda and company doing their thing in front of the infamous green screen. You gotta admit, acting this way is infinitely harder than with real people and real surroundings you can touch.
Some highlights from the LAT article:
The show has been renewed for a second season after getting a fair amount of press attention (like on David Strick’s Hollywood Backlot), but not a lot of it has been [...]

The good thing about being an off-network TV show is that people tend to give you second and in some cases, even third chances. Now I don’t know if the new Amanda Tapping show Sanctuary has managed to maintain its high ratings from its premiere episode, but the Sci Fi Channel has enough faith in it that it’s greenlighted a second season for the show, okaying 13 new episodes for next year. I haven’t been keeping up with Sanctuary since its premiere, but I’ve been meaning to add it to my list of DVR’ed shows.
Sci Fi Wire has the good news:
The channel gave a green light to 13 new hours. Sanctuary is slated to resume production in Vancouver, Canada, early next year for a 2009 premiere.
More than 3 million viewers tuned in to the premiere of Sanctuary on Oct. 3, making it the highest-rated original series premiere since Eureka debuted in July 2006.
Sanctuary stars Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus, [...]

It looks like The Sci Fi Channel is pretty pleased with itself this week, especially since the premiere of the Amanda Tapping series Sanctuary delivered (what I’m gathering) great ratings for the cable network. I liked what I saw of the show’s 2-hour premiere, but I have to admit, I kind of tuned out and back in every now and then throughout the episode. The show seemed to lag for me at times, and although it had a nice premise, and it’s great to see Tapping weekly again, I don’t know, I think Sanctuary could stand some retooling. For one, make it move faster, pick up the pace. In short: less talk, more action.
Here’s the Press Release hyping the show’s premiere ratings:
2.7 Million Tune In For Series Premiere
NEW YORK – October 6, 2008 – SCI FI’s groundbreaking new original series Sanctuary, which premiered on Friday, October 3 (9-11 pm), was the #1 primetime cable entertainment program among Adults 25-54 and [...]

Yes, yes, I know, it sucks that Amanda Tapping is no longer on Stargate: Atlantis, and that we’re now forced to stare at Robert Picardo’s shiny dome instead of Amanda’s nice curves, but there is a bright side: Amanda Tapping is returning to TV with Sanctuary, the TV version of her web series of the same name. The Sci Fi Channel has greenlight the series, which Amanda stars in as Helen Magnus, and the whole thing will be shot on a green screen studio ala “Sin City” and “300″.
Amanda talks about her character, via IGN:
Tapping plays Magnus with an English accent, and she takes about how this came about and what it reveals about the character. “It’s part of her history,” she says. “Helen Magnus dates back to Victorian era England, and it’s an important part of who she is. It informs a lot about her eccentricities and where she came from. She’s from that era. She’s was one [...]

I was a very happy little clam when The Sci Fi Channel announced that they would transplant Amanda Tapping’s web series Sanctuary over to their network, and would start by ordering a 13-episode run, including a brand spanking new pilot. According to Tapping herself, the TV version of Sanctuary will be a little different from the web episodes that have aired so far, but much of the premise remains intact, including Tapping as the main character, an immortal name Helen Magnus.
More:
“The fact is it’s already evolving,” Tapping said in an interview at the channel’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York earlier this month. “Our pilot that we’re now going to start shooting is very different from what you’ve seen on the Web. But [Magnus] is still this crazy character. She’s 157 years old, and she’s very eccentric and very sexy and very unapologetic. I love it.”
Tapping, who will continue to guest star on Atlantis as Col. Samantha Carter, said [...]

Amanda Tapping’s web series “Sanctuary” is being adapted into a regular TV series by the Sci Fi Channel, says The Hollywood Reporter. “Sanctuary”, which starred Amanda Tapping, started life as an original web-based series created and produced by Tapping and her SG-1 colleagues, Damian Kindler and Martin Wood.
More:
“Sanctuary” hails from the “Stargate SG-1″ trio of star Amanda Tapping, writer-producer Damian Kindler and producer-director Martin Wood, who are executive producing the series with Sam Egan.
Tapping stars as the enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus who is on a quest with her young protege, Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), to track down, aid and protect strange creatures that walk the earth.
Kindler created “Sanctuary,” while Wood directed the webisodes starring Tapping.
Amanda Tapping in an original sci-fi series not involving replicators, worm aliens, or intergalactic travel? Say it ain’t so!
I’m just kidding. I’ve seen some of the green screen-heavy web episodes, and they’re very cool. For the show’s transition to the Sci Fi Channel, they’ll [...]

If you don’t know the name Amanda Tapping, then you’re probably reading the wrong site. That having been said, Amanda Tapping has a new sci-fi/horror series coming out called “Sanctuary”, which I didn’t know about until someone asked her about it in an interview being hosted over at The Sci Fi World. (You can download the full interview by clicking here. BTW: It does look like Amanda WILL be replacing the Weir character on “Stargate: Atlantis” after all, news I didn’t know until now.) But anyways, back to “Sanctuary”…
Here is Starlog’s write-up on the show:
Stage 3 Media Inc., a Vancouver-based production company, today announced the debut of a teaser for SANCTUARY, its new science fiction web-episode series.
SANCTUARY’s cast is led by internationally-recognized actor Amanda Tapping (STARGATE: SG-1).
Created by veteran science fiction writer/producer Damian Kindler, the series also stars Robin Dunne (DAWSON’S CREEK) and Emilie Ullerup (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA).
Kindler and Tapping serve as executive producers along with N. John Smith and director [...]
