Syfy Channel Announces Some Honest-to-Goodness Sci-Fi Shows for 2012-2013

Nix April 26, 2012

With all the wrasslin’ and silly reality TV shows on their airwaves lately (and what looks like even more coming), it’s sometimes hard to believe the Syfy Channel used to be the SciFi Channel, and that they still have some decent sci-fi shows on their stable. There’s the goofy as hell “Warehouse 13″, the entertaining “Haven”, and the soon-to-be-gone “Eureka”. And oh yeah, “Alphas” is pretty damn awesome, too. But for 2012 and beyond, Syfy seems to be making a concerted effort to get back into the sci-fi TV business with a new slate of intriguing sounding shows among the slew of new Reality TV shows they’ll be introducing. Basically, for every slightly sci-fi-sounding show, we get at least two Reality TV shows. Sigh. Anyways, here are some titles we’re excited about that may or may not eventually make it to air. Remember, just because a network “develops” a show, commissions scripts, and even shoots a pilot for, it doesn’t… Continue Reading »

7 Days — er, Source Code — er, I mean, Rewind Cast its Male Lead

Nix March 9, 2012

Justin Marks’ TV show “Rewind” on the Syfy Channel has cast its first male lead: Shane McRae. (Now that’s the made-up Hollywood name for an action hero if I’ve ever heard one. One from the Deep South, most likely, whose down home charms hide a deadly killer. Or some such.) The show, about “a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack”, will premiere with a 2-hour pilot that’s set to shoot in April. McRae will play Henry Knox, an ex-Special Forces operator who now plies his trade as a field operative in a special division of the Department of Homeland Security. Look, I know this show is just a bullshit remake of “Seven Days” and “Source Code”, but I’ll give it the pilot to convince me it actually has more going for it… Continue Reading »

Syfy Picks up Justin Marks’ Source Code — er, I mean, Seven Days — er, Make that Rewind

Nix January 18, 2012

The Syfy Channel is apparently still in the original science fiction TV business. Who would have thunk it? They have “Alphas”, “Warehouse 13″, and “Haven”, but for the most part their line-up is pretty much taken up with cheapie Reality TV shows and wrasslin’. They do still show reruns of your more popular sci-fi shows, but I’m guessing that’s because they bought the rights years ago, back when they were actually a sci-fi channel, and, well, mind as well use it. The cable net’s latest venture is, shockingly, not reality TV-based whatsoever, and is instead an original sci-fi show called “Rewind” from feature film writer Justin Marks (the man who gave us the legendary “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li”). Syfy has committed to a 2-hour pilot for “Rewind”, which will revolve around “a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change… Continue Reading »
