It’s hard to fathom the twisted minds of men that can conceive and create a device of this perfection. In your Victorian alternate timeline, it is still 2009. While Apple exists, it has come to resemble something only Snow White’s dark queen could conjure. Yes it is real. It is a fully functional iPod of the first generation. The eyeball? The wheel. Created by the mad, mad men of SteamGearLab to thrill, entertain and terrify your friends. Here is their description. The “eye-Pod” can be worn on the wrist via the leather cuff, or placed on its custom Victrola base. All functionality of the iPod remain intact an a hidden USB cord retracts from the base to either a wall charger or your computer. There are hidden pressure plates that when touched send a strobing “static charge” into the quartz crystals on either side of the magnified viewing portal. My thanks to BoingBoing for bringing us this news.

Lawrence Northey is one gifted guy. I’ve started to collect some robot sculpture bits and bobs here and there for my “space” and although I’d have to save up a bit for the beauties found at Robotart, it would be well worth the penny pinching. These art-bots are made of brass, chrome plated steel and a great sense of humour. Check out the pic below for a taste, then browse the full gallery for all the goodness.

SteamPunk is a brilliant alternative parallel Sci-Fi universe. It’s a place where Charles Babbage and his difference engine ciphers a life’s probabilities by gaslight and all your darkest clockwork dreams are realized. If your imagination isn’t always enough to make these visions come to life, the artists and video makers at the fantastic CGSociety have announced the winners of it’s SteamPunk: Myths and Legends Contest. Do yourself a favour and enjoy the winners there then see what else this fantastic artists venue has to offer, especially in it’s CGChoice galleries.

Let’s face it, Optimus Prime is pretty old school. I mean, for God’s sake, he transforms into a big rig. You can’t get anymore traditional than that. Which is probably why when Optimus Prime gets killed and is rebuilt (which kinda happens a lot), chances are he won’t really “get” what’s happening around him, and is liable to clash with the newer model Transformers. Here are two videos cooked up by some “Transformers” fans that brings that point home. The first video is a recut of some old “Transformers” episodes from the ’80s with a new soundtrack. It’s bloody brilliant. The second one is more “new” school, using those ridiculous “new” Transformers from the new CGI show. I don’t even know what these bastard offsprings are called. Beast Transformers or Maxi Pads or something, who knows, and who cares. Check it out, some good stuff here.

It had 22 episodes, but it really should have had more. Created, written, and produced by Glenn Gordon Caron (who would go on to create the popular Medium for NBC) in 2000, Now and Again concerned one Michael Wiseman as a re-built man (the Six Million Dollar Man for the new millennium, if you will), who is put to work by the U.S. Government under the close supervision of Dr. Theodore Morris (played by 24 and The Unit’s Dennis Haysbert). Originally a 40-something husband and father of one (played in cameos by John Goodman), Wiseman becomes a 26-year old, genetically modified superhuman man played by Eric Close (now with the hit show Without a Trace). The show lasted only one year, and featured very strong sci-fi elements that it somehow made seem real. But what really made it pop for me wasn’t the sci-fi aspect, but the romance between Wiseman and his wife, Lisa (Margaret Colin, one of the stars [...]
