To be honest with you, I don’t see how Disney wouldn’t make a sequel to “Race to Witch Mountain”, and according to one of the film’s stars, the original did leave room for more stories. Released earlier this year, the movie earned $67 million at the domestic box office, and went on to make $106 million worldwide. That sounds like a recipe for sequels to me. While doing the press junket for his animated sci-fi comedy “Planet 51″, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said as much. He told Collider: I’m not quite too sure about a Witch Mountain sequel. Great success breeds a lot of things, including sequels. The storyline was set up for a sequel, so we’ll see. I’m not ruling it out. I just can’t speak to it because I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to any of the guys up at Disney about it. From there, The Rock automatically switched over to promoting his other kid-friendly comedy “Tooth [...]

Ever since “Star Wars” tried to reboot the franchise back in 1999, it seems every studio has embarked on a frantic sprint to update any viable properties that may be lanquishing in their film vaults. Forget developing any new ideas. Let’s drag a dusty old one out, brush off the cobwebs and make it all shiny and new. In the cases of the “Star Trek” and “Batman” films, it work spectacularly well due to the amazing talent of the creative team. “Witch Mountain” is bereft of anything positive behing the camera, and consequently the resulting production has all the artistic flair and entertainment quality of a Wal Mart restroom. The 21st Century version of “Escape to Witch Mountain”, now rechristened “Race to Witch Mountain”, focuses on cabdriver Jack Bruno. Choosing honest work over the temptations of criminal jobs, his life gets even more complicated when a pair of young kids materialize in the backseat of his cab with fistfulls of [...]

Let’s face it, science fiction movies don’t open every week at the box office. You’ll be lucky to get two in a month in some cases. So I thought I’d do a weekly “Sci-Fi at the Movies” column every Friday when there is a sci-fi or fantasy movie opening in the week. We’ll start out with the week of March 13, 2009, which sees only one sci-fi release, The Rock’s “Race to Witch Mountain”. The Race to Witch Mountain (March 13, 2009) A taxi driver gets more than get bargained for when he picks up two teen runaways. Not only does the pair possess supernatural powers, but they’re also trying desperately to escape people who have made them their targets. Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Ciaran Hinds, Anna-Sophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Carla Gugino Directed by: Andy Fickman CLICK HERE for more information on the movie, including our previous news articles and stills.

New images from The Rock starrer “Race to Witch Mountain”, which has a couple of alien kids trying to make it to the titular mountain before government spooks can stop them. Their goal is to stop an impending alien invasion, and apparently they have to reach the mountain to do that. Let’s help them, shall we? Alien invasions are so not cool. A UFO expert enlists the help of a cabbie to protect two siblings with paranormal powers from the clutches of an organization that wants to use the kids for their nefarious plans. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the cabbie, Carla Gugino is the UFO expert, and AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig play the “kids”. The trailers are selling this as a kiddie action-adventure movie, but hey, anything with Carla Gugino can’t possibly be bad. Yes, I have a mad crush on Carla Gugino. What of it? Get in the race March 13.

Besides the game itself, the other notable aspect of Superbowl Sunday are the movie trailers. Every movie fan is dying to find out what the big studios will be putting out there to get the audiences jacked up, and since the price of the ads are so expensive, you expect the ads to be pretty good, right? Not so much in previous years, but maybe it’ll change this year. Here are some of the sci-fi movie trailers that made their way to Superbowl Sunday this year, including: “Race to Witch Mountain”, “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen”, “Monsters vs. Aliens”, and “Star Trek 11″. ——–*——— “Race to Witch Mountain” ——–*——– “Star Trek 11″ ——–*——– “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” ——–*——– “Monsters vs. Aliens”

Now that I know for sure “Race to Witch Mountain” is indeed a sci-fi movie (yes, a kiddie adventure sci-fi movie, but sci-fi nevertheless), here are three more images from the movie, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a cabbie who picks up two strange kids with powers being chased by shady men in black. The threesome get help from Carla Gugino, who plays some kind of TV host on a UFO show. Or something to that affect. Together, they have to “race” to the titular Witch Mountain before the Government can stop them. There’s a twist: the kids are actually trying to stop an impending alien invasion, but only if they can reach Witch Mountain! For years, stories have circulated about a secret place in the middle of the Nevada desert, known for unexplained phenomena and strange sightings. It is called Witch Mountain, and when a Las Vegas cab driver (DWAYNE JOHNSON) finds two teens with supernatural powers [...]

Go figure. I didn’t even know Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest movie, “Race to Witch Mountain” was even a sci-fi movie, which is why I never bothered covering it. (Sounds like a kiddie action movie to me when I first heard it. Well, it kinda is that, but then some.) Here’s the poster and trailer for the movie, about two kids who turn out to be aliens, and are being pursued by the authorities. They get him from The Rock when they jump into his taxi. Here is the poster and trailer for “Race to Witch Mountain”, starring Carla Gugino, AnnaSophia Robb, Dwayne Johnson, Christine Lakin, Cheech Marin, Ciarán Hinds, and Tom Everett Scott. The official plot goes something like this: A UFO expert enlists the help of a cabbie to protect two siblings with paranormal powers from the clutches of an organization that wants to use the kids for their nefarious plans. The trailer actually spells it out for [...]
