Paul McGuigan’s “Push” is like the X-Men without the goofy outfits and codenames. That’s really the best way to describe the film, a mixture of comic book action-adventure and crime caper. Written by David Bourla and directed by McGuigan (“Lucky Number Slevin”), I’ve been interested in “Push” ever since the first time I heard about it years ago, although it appears as if the film’s plot has morphed somewhat, because the first time I heard about the film it sounded more like a heist flick with superpowered criminals. In any case, the finished product boasts a wonderful cast and is quite entertaining from beginning to end, so in that respect you can probably forgive it for being a tad too generic for its own good.
The film stars Chris Evans (the Human Torch from the “Fantastic Four” films) as Nick Gant, a psychic who can move things with his mind. Nick is a bit out of practice, and makes his living [...]

I knew that when I first heard the idea behind Paul McGuigan’s “Push” that this was the kind of movie I wanted to see, and this two and a half minute clip from the film proves it. In it, Chris Evans’ character confronts Djimon Hounsou and Neil Jackson’s characters in a restaurant and the whole thing quickly turns into a psychic gunfight with the two powerful physics controlling a handgun with their mind. It appears as if Evans’ character hasn’t quite gotten used to his powers yet, as Jackson’s is cleaning up the restaurant with him for a while, even deflecting bullets with his hands, which is pretty cool.
“Push”, starring Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou, and Neil Jackson, opens February 6, 2009. It’s directed by Paul McGuigan (”Lucky Number Slevin”).

As part of their sneak peek at 2009’s upcoming movies, the LA Times has a number of images from some sci-fi movies of note. Among them, James Cameron’s “Avatar” (alas, it’s more set pictures, and nothing from the actual movie), disaster movies “2012″ and “Knowing”, another one from “Push”, “Race to Witch Mountain”, and the animated “Monsters vs. Aliens”. Plus, yet another image from Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster’s “Pandorum”. Enjoy.

Let’s face it, if you haven’t fantasized about having telekinetic powers and being able to move things with your mind, then you just don’t have any imagination. I think everyone has daydreamed about being able to, say, TK’ing a mug into the back of their boss’s head from all the way across the office at one point or another. That seems to be the main power of Chris Evans’ character in Paul McGuigan’s sci-fi movie “Push”. The film also co-stars Camilla Belle and Dakota Fanning, and is due out in theaters sometime next year. New images and poster from the movie below.
A riveting action-thriller, Push burrows deep into the deadly world of psychic espionage where artificially enhanced paranormal operatives have the ability to move objects with their minds, see the future, create new realities and kill without ever touching their victims. Against this setting, a young man and a teenage girl take on a clandestine agency in a race against [...]

I’ve been hearing about Paul McGuigan’s “Push” for the longest time, and have wanted to see it for just as long. The whole idea behind “Push” is the sort of stuff that I just love and can’t get enough of, although the idea behind the movie seems to have changed a bit since I first heard about it. Originally, I think the movie was supposed to be about a bunch of American expatriates with powers who ends up doing a heist in a foreign country; now it’s more generic-sounding, with people with powers fleeing an evil organization that, no doubt, wants to harness their abilities for evil deeds. It makes this sound like a Sci Fi Channel Original Movie of the Week, and let me assure you, that is NOT a good thing.

When I first heard the premise for Paul McGuigan’s “Push”, I knew it was immediately right up my alley. How could you not like the idea of a group of Americans living somewhere overseas who uses their telekinetic abilities to pull crimes? Then you throw in an Eeeeeeeeeevil U.S. Government trying to capture them and use their gifts, and you got yourself a pretty decent Saturday night on the Sci Fi Channel. But add Chris Evans, Camilla Belle, and Djimon Hounsou to the cast, and it’s a major motion picture.
The plot:
The action packed sci-fi thriller involves a group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities, hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency. They must utilize their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever.
After some searching, I came across the movie’s poster via ImpAwards. It looks like a teaser poster, one of those things some kid with a computer whips [...]
