Christian Alvart’s “Pandorum” is a creature feature horror film set in space. In that respect, the movie doesn’t really depend on its sci-fi elements in the least, and its premise could have been easily transplanted to any isolated location that requires a large group of people to be locked away from civilization. The grungy, dark spaceship interiors and its many winding, bulky corridors could easily have been swapped for an underground research base, for example. But hey, who’s complaining? It’s been a long time since sci-fi has looked this dark, gritty, and grungy. And of course, deadly.
Set many years in the future, “Pandorum” stars Ben Foster as Bower, a crewman onboard the spaceship Elysium. Bower, along with fellow crewman Lieutenant Payton (Dennis Quaid), are tasked with ensuring that their ship’s cargo – humans in hypersleep — are successfully transported to a distant alien planet for colonization. Somewhere along the way, something has malfunction or gone terribly wrong, and Bower [...]

It’s not every week that two big sci-fi Hollywood movies open in the same week, but that’s what happened this weekend with the Bruce Willis “Surrogates” and the Ben Foster/Dennis Quaid “Pandorum”. Unfortunately for sci-fi fans, neither film lived up to expectations, which is the nice way of saying they both stunk up the joint.
BoxOfficeMojo has Bruce Willis’ “Surrogates” opening at second place with $15 million, according to studio estimates. That’s well short of industry expectations, which had the film taking the top spot. Instead, “Surrogates” failed to dethrone last week’s box office champ, the CG animated movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, which handidly beat “Surrogates” by $10 million to maintain its dominance.
But as disappointing as Willis’ “Surrogates” was, it still did much better than Christian Alvart’s well-received (at least among sci-fi/genre fans) “Pandorum”, which failed to crack the Top 5 in its debut. The Ben Foster/Dennis Quaid starrer opened at sixth place with a meager $4.4 million. [...]

Ok kids. We’ve got a winner. I’ll freely admit, I’m on the team. I love Science Fiction and when I see something good and especially good and smart, it gets me jumping. Since I am a card carrying member of the old guys Sci-Fi association I am also wary of Hollywood spewing forth movies that claim to be smart, look on the trailers to be cast from the same moulds of old greats like “Alien” or “Predator” and even perhaps “Pitch Black”, only to get to the theatre and find out they only had a plot summary and maybe not even that. They sold us a bill of goods.
“Pandorum” is for real. I’m calling it a classic. It’s up there among the greats. Where it sits in the overall pantheon I’m not sure yet. I’ll have to see it a second time, or a third. I’m ready to see it again right now. Lets talk a bit about why I’m [...]

It’s a “Pandorum” avalanche of clips and interviews this week folks. Next week it’ll be something else but I for one am thrilled to get to see this little hard core Alien scented beauty starring the great Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, who is, let me underline, awesome.
I get the feeling that Pandorum will not be your straight ahead creature feature. There are more interesting dark and twisty corridors to navigate than a spaceship filled with the desperate and sweaty and they thankfully reside between your ears. I am assured that Pandorum mostly wants to mess around in the tight and shadowy spaces in your mind .
In this clip, Ben Foster provides glowstick lighting to the beautiful Antje Traue as she sheds her own light on the proceedings. Thanks Bloody Disgusting.

I really like the fact that I don’t know that much about what is to befall me when I catch “Pandorum” this weekend. The cast and the big minds behind the film have taken the unusual step of letting us find out what the hell happens in the movie AS the movie is playing. Damn refreshing!
But teasing is ok. Teasing works. As the film looms above us, it’s arrival imminent, the cast and the producer, Jeremy Bolt have gotten together to give us just enough information to make me wish it was Friday. Oh Friday, how I love you.

When you’ve been covering movie news as long as I have, you learn not to get too excited about “potential sequel” news. Studios always float out this idea of a possible franchise even before the first movie is released — that means prequels, sequels, etc. Here’s the truth: it means nothing.
Studios, actors, directors, and caterers always go into a movie thinking they might have a possible franchise on their hands, especially if the movie fits into the genre mode, which “Pandorum” certainly does. So of course I was not surprise to run across this interview with “Pandorum” star Dennis Quaid over at Arrow in the Head. Quaid mentions not just a possible sequel, but prequel as well:
“Well, if the movie connects with audiences… if it does well, there is actually. There is a prequel and a sequel. The thing about PANDORUM is there is a mythology that goes along with it that is in some ways, very similar to how [...]

Man oh Man am I looking forward to this one. Please, oh please be good. Shock Til You Drop recently rang up Mr. Dennis Quaid, the star of the wicked looking Sci-Fi/Horror film “Pandorum” opening up in theatres this weekend.
Dennis really couldn’t talk a lot about the film. It’s full of delicious secrets you see. Identity crises, huge steel spaceships chock full of nasty beasties and all enhanced with tasteful romantic lighting. It’s really the perfect Sci-Fi movie.
A bit from Dennis Quaid:
“When I read a script, it’s my only chance to be an audience member,” he continues. “It’s a first time experience. This was a real page-turner that was unique and original. I just loved the story. The focus is really on the human beings. It’s mythic in a sense that it points to a turn you have no words for. Christian Alvart did a wonderful job telling the story with the look of the story. He elevated the [...]

Overture Films just sent us five clips from their upcoming sci-fi/horror movie “Pandorum”, one of those movies that will, surely, bring back the age of space horror. Or at the very least, an ass kicking good time at the movies if you’re into the genre.
In PANDORUM, Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point, The Express) and Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, Alpha Dog) join Cam Gigandet (Never Back Down, Twilight), Cung Le (Tekken, Fighting), newcomer Antje Traue, and director Christian Alvart (Antibodies) to tell the terrifying story of two crew members stranded on a spacecraft who quickly – and horrifically – realize they are not alone.
Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It’s pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can’t remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission?
With Lt. Payton (Quaid) staying behind to guide him [...]

The more previews I see the more Event Horizon I see in Pandorum and this is a good thing. I saw Event Horizon and was expecting straight ahead, plain jane, spacey kind of vibrations. Instead, Event Horizon sort of blew my circuits. I took a date and had promised a run of the mill, dudes in space kind of thing. Man was she in for a surprise.
In the poster below we see a distraught female crew member down on her knees and grimacing in consternation at the ruin her life has become. Did she sign up for this? I say probably not. Will she survive the evils lurking the dark and echoing corridors of a spaceship gone to the dogs? I for [...]

Summit Entertainment has released two new clips from Christian Alvart’s “Pandorum”, which is looking more and more like a horror movie disguised as a sci-fi flick. Hey, I ain’t complaining. Horror and sci-fi, when done right, goes together like a fat kid and cake.
The first clip, from IGN (if you can’t tell by the huge “IGN” logo stamped on the clip), has crewman Bower (Ben Foster) stumbling across crewman Sheppard (Norman Reedus), who tells him about “creatures” in the dark. Spooky stuff. The second clip, from Bloody-Disgusting, looks like a continuation of the first clip, and gives us our first glimpse of the creatures that will be menacing the movie’s doomed crew.
The movie co-stars Dennis Quaid, Cam Gigandet, Antje Traue, Cung Le, Eddie Rouse, and screams its way into theaters September 25, 2009.

“Pandorum” is yet another wicked Sci-Fi film about to creep into theatres soon. “Pandorum” stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in the tale of a starship with really bad lighting and the terrible skin conditions that can obviously result. Didn’t anyone think of bringing a sun lamp?
Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster awake from cryosleep to find just about everyone that was aboard their ship are mysteriously gone and instead the shadowy ships corridors are filled with a few terrified supermodels and…other things.
Pandorum is in theatres Sept 25th. Pandorum is directed by Christian Alvart.

Here’s the “Pandorum” trailer that was shown at Comic-Con over the weekend. Unfortunately I only made it into the last 15 minutes or so of the panel. Okay, so I should have caught all of it, but I was too busy running to the Exhibition Hall for a hot dog, since the Hall H “cafeteria” was out of service at that time. That took a good 20 minutes of running and and forth, and by the time I got back in, the “Pandorum” panel was already wrapping up. Anyways, here’s the trailer that they showed at the panel.
The film is produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, who was at the panel along with actors Cung Le, Ben Foster (who looks so out of it I wonder if he thought he was still in space) and German actress Antje Traue.
Get paranoid September 18, 2009.

Entertainment Weekly is previewing a number of sci-fi movies (and one TV show, the SyFy Channel’s Stargate: Universe) that will be holding panels and making splashes at this year’s Comic Con, and have included new images from the movies/show in their preview. They include Shane Acker’s “9″, “Pandorum” with Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, and Stargate: Universe. In the article, they quote Universe producer Robert Cooper as saying this about the new show:
The creators of this latest Stargate series, SGU, gave themselves one clear directive: ”Completely rethink everything,” says exec producer Cooper. Out are the ”rubber-faced, alien, English-speaking bad guys”; in is a darker, sexier, more character-driven story about a group of civilians, scientists, and military personnel stranded via a Stargate on an ancient alien spaceship.
Great. “Darker, sexier, more character-driven story”. Why don’t they just come out and say, “We’re trying to ride the coattails of Battlestar Galactica.” Sheesh. The more I see and hear about this show, the more [...]

I just watched the new “Pandorum” trailer straight out of bed this morning. No more need for coffee for me. “Pandorum” stars Ben Foster, Dennis Quaid and Cam Gigandet and tells a scary tale indeed. Two Crewman wake up aboard a starship where many thousands of other passengers are also supposed to be happily slumbering away to find themselves alone. Where are the rest of the crew? Why is it so dark? What’s that..thing…hiding in the dark? Where is my bladder control?
Oh baby this one looks good. It’s a bracing trailer kids. Steel yourself. Opens Sept 18th. Via Apple.com.

It looks legit but man does this person look like Steven Tyler or what? Pandorum stars Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster, Antje Traue, Cung Le, Norman Reedus and Cam Gigandet and is directed by Christian Alvart. After waking up from the cold of hypersleep, two crew members realize something has gone horribly, horribly wrong and the rest of the occupants of their starship are apparently, missing. Looks pretty awesome. I love Ben Foster and it’s time Dennis did a Sci-Fi again. I’ll add a trailer in here for those late to the Pandorum parade. Thanks Comingsoon.

Ben Foster wakes up from hypersleep only to find his ship empty, his 60,000 shipmates gone and an unpaid power bill. It only gets worse from there. Something wicked is lurking around and not everyone left aboard speaks English. Ben Foster stars along with Dennis Quaid in this really juicy looking Sci-Fi Horror opening in Sept. Ben and fellow cast member Cung le sat down with Io9 to shed some needed light on the dark and gloomy elements of “Pandorum”. Here’s a small slice.
You mentioned that this movie is substantially violent, how so?
It’s a thriller, a scifi horror movie. It bounces through a lot of different genres. I imagine it will appeal to a wider audience, it certainly scared the shit out of me when I read it…. When I read this script, it had me. There were a lot of interesting physical twists and physical demands which were exciting to play with.
Let’s talk about the ship you’re riding around [...]

Then again, maybe all the monsters are in the heads of the survivors, and they’re just imagining gruesome creatures coming after them? That’s possible. But whereas the first trailer really sold the the movie’s happenings as being all in the character’s minds, this latest trailer (via Movieweb) seems to dispel that notion, and seems to make it very clear that the creatures do exist and that they are stalking the ship. Could be one big mind-trip, though, so there’s always that. Check out the newest trailer below.
In Pandorum, actors Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point, The Express) and Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, Alpha Dog) join Cam Gigandet (Never Back Down, Twilight), Cung Le (Tekken, Fighting), newcomer Antje Traue and director Christian Alvart (Antibodies) to tell the terrifying story of two crew members stranded on a spacecraft who quickly realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It’s pitch black, they are disoriented, [...]
