Duncan Jones, the director and co-writer of this years stupendous “Moon” was supposed to be gnawing away feverishly on the film “Mute” about a deaf bartender in Berlin trying to find his missing girlfriend. However, Duncan has instead been persuaded to work on the film “Source Code” with Jake Gyllenhaal, about a guy repeatedly sent back in time 17 minutes before a terrorist explosion on a train to puzzle out what happened in order to prevent it from happening again. So we won’t be seeing “Mute” for a few years. According to the fine fellows at ScriptShadow, it’ll be worth the wait. They have the whole shebang apparently, ready for your e-reader of choice. Here’s a part of the larger synopsis: “Mute” centers on a brutish 40 year old man named Leo, who lost his ability to speak in a childhood boating accident. The cautious and perceptive Leo lives in Germany now, where he’s fallen in love with a striking [...]

Duncan Jones is working to fund his followup to the excellent “Moon” and is apparently having some difficulties. The film is called “Mute” and was c0-written with Duncan by Mike Johnson, the writer of the upcoming Sherlock Holmes. Mr. Jones plans some juicy ode to Blade Runner vibrations in “Mute”, a story about a mute bartender in future Berlin! that goes in search of his missing girlfriend. Duncan is philosophic about the whole money thing. He believes that anything worth having requires a difficult process and he’s bang on with that. The Age has a nice interview up with Duncan where he talks about the difficulties in getting an intelligent Sci-Fi movie made. Duncan wants to spend about 5 times the money on “Mute” that he spent on “Moon”. Also in the interview but not elaborated on was Jones’ “eye on” William Gibson’s Neuromancer, a book near and dear to all a true sci-fi believers heart. Thanks io9 for the [...]

Looks like Duncan Jones, he of Moon fame, has started pre production work on “Mute”, his Blade Runner inspired Sci-Fi that will be set in future Berlin(!). From Liberty Films, Duncan’s production company, comes this concept art shot, showing a rain soaked and shiny street where a Blade Runnerish hover car awaits a group of black clad Sci-Fi hipsters, striking dangerous poses in the neon light. Liberty Films has booked a major Berlin studio already. We’re happy. Mute is about a mute bartender looking for his missing girlfriend in future Berlin. It seems the villians will be a comedy duo. Reminds me kind of the bad guy duos in Diamonds Are Forever or the fantastically bad duo, Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar, in the hopefully soon to be a major motion picture, Neil Gaimen’s Neverwhere, a book you need to go and buy right this very minute. From /Film In Development. Writers: Duncan Jones (Moon) and Mike Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). [...]

Duncan Jones has talked about his follow-up to his well-received “Moon” before, but he’s never mentioned the title as far as I know. Now we know: the British director is gearing up production on a $25 million dollar sci-fi mystery called “Mute”. It is the film Jones has talked about doing, his “Blade Runner”-styled movie set in a futuristic society. Though the setting will be very “Blade Runner”-esque in style and aesthetics, Jones says the real plot will be more grounded. Jones tells ScreenDaily: “Moon is about alienation and isolation. The next one will have a different vibe. It’s not about one actor on their own, it’s an ensemble piece.” Producer Stuart Fenegan, who also produced Jones’ “Moon”, reveals the film’s plot: “Mute is about a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city’s gangsters.” Production on the UK-German “Mute” is expected to start early [...]

Duncan Jones, the director of the much anticipated old school Sci-Fi drama “The Moon”, talks with io9 about his hopes for his next job in the big chair. Duncan has expressed his desire to make a movie in the spirit and feel of Blade Runner. As Mr. Jones describes so well in his comments, the Blade Runner world of future Los Angeles feels like a real place. Visually, the density of the scenes, even the ones without people give Blade Runner an almost documentary feel. Watching BR, It feels as if the actors went about being filmed by cameras and by equipment hidden from the comings and goings of an actual, living breathing environment. If you look past Harrison and the rest of the cast there are a thousand other stories to see and to be told. The sound design and music also contributes greatly to the density and realism and should not be overlooked. Duncan can explain this in [...]
