Produced in 2008 on what looks to be a rather sizeable budget (or at the very least, something out of the reach of your standard Sci Fi Channel Original Movie, which ironically is where the movie will probably end up after some extensive cuts), “Mutant Chronicles” by Simon Hunter (“Lighthouse”) spent most of its first year on the shelf as the studio tried to figure out what to do with it. The film was released in Europe and Video-on-Demand before finally making its Stateside theatrical bow last week, and is not expected to do very much at the box office. TV advertisement for the film is nil, and what’s more, Internet advertisement (usually the way to go with these types of genre movies) is nearly non-existent, especially for what is potentially such a geek-friendly movie. To be sure, the studio’s apprehension is understandable, as the film is not everyone’s cup of tea, and will probably turn off more viewers than [...]

Like mutants? Like Thomas Jane? Like watching Thomas Jane blasting mutants in a futuristic society that looks like someone forgot to add coloring? That’s Simon Hunter’s “The Mutant Chronicles” in a nutshell. Here’s another clip from the movie, “Any Last Words?”, which features (presumably) one of many battles with the mutant horde.
At the end of the Ice Age, The Machine came from the outer space with the purpose to change men into mutants. However, a hero defeated the device and a great seal was laid over The Machine. In 2707, the depleted world is ruled by four Corporations: Mishima, Bauhaus, Capitol and Imperial that are in constant war. During a battle between Capitol and Bauhaus, the great seal is broken and The Machine works again transforming soldiers and civilians in hordes of mutants. A small part of the population escapes to Mars, leaving millions of people behind. The man of faith and leader of an ancient brotherhood Brother Samuel [...]

“Mutant Chronicles”, starring Thomas Jane, John Malkovich and Ron Perlman is a no sets, shot entirely on green screen, military sci-fi extravaganza coming to you April 24th.
It looks good I must say. You need a good dose of scene chewing, damp, rainy and momentously Gothic sci-fi every once in a while. Here’s a clip of some in flight action to whet your appetite. Thanks MTV.

Mutant Chronicles, starring Thomas Jane and Mr. Ron Perlman, is a nice little Sci-Fi film where warring Corporations battle it out for global supremacy on a far future Earth.
Has a nice Warhammer, war as religion, kind of feel to it. ScifiWire has a behind the scenes video with interviews with the director and cast, as well as some nifty sequences of dark spaces, big cannons, all hell breaking loose and assorted giant Sci-Fi goodness. Here’s an official description of the film.
Mutant Chronicles is set in the year 2707 on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet’s dwindling resources.
This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the Earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Jane), descends into the Earth [...]
