Alex Proyas Talks Tripods

tripodsAlex Proyas, a favorite here among us for his excellent Dark City, is talking about his latest project “The Tripods” based on the novels of John Christopher. The Tripods was also made into a British BBC series back in the 80′s but was canceled before they made it to the conclusion.

Alex Proyas’ Knowing is #1 at the Box Office

Now this was certainly nice to see. Not that a Nicolas Cage movie had landed in first place at the box office, but that an Alex Proyas film has landed at first place. As an unabashed fan of Proyas’ work, I’m happy to see the guy get this kind of success. It can only mean more movies from the director, and if all goes well … a “Dark City” sequel, perhaps?

Knowing (2009) Movie Review

You don’t get more hit-and-miss than Nicolas Cage. The prolific actor seems to be in three or four movies a year, and it’s usually a good year if one of his films turns out to be a moderate hit. Nicolas Cage movies without the words “National” or “Treasure” in the title just don’t seem to do very well at the box office nowadays. Cage’s latest, the Alex Proyas-directed “Knowing” doesn’t seem to have the makings of a big hit, and early indicators (including a general lack of buzz in the fanboy community) are that it will turn out like Cage’s last sci-fi themed effort, the Philip K. Dick inspired “Next”. I kind of enjoyed “Next” myself, but then again, I might have been the only one.

New Images from Alex Proyas’ Knowing

More images from Alex Proyas’ upcoming sci-fi thriller “Knowing” have appeared online. They feature Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne’s characters trying to stop impending doom, including possibly the end of the world. Obviously the end of the world would really suck, so let’s hope the tick-heavy Cage and the oh-so-pretty Rose Byrne manages to save us.

Knowing Clip: Subway

A great clip from “Knowing”, starring Rose Byrne and Nicolas Cage, and directed by Alex Proyas. Opening March 20, 2009.

New Images from Pandorum, 2012, Avatar, Push, Race to Witch Mountain, Knowing, Monsters vs. Aliens

As part of their sneak peek at 2009′s upcoming movies, the LA Times has a number of images from some sci-fi movies of note. Among them, James Cameron’s “Avatar” (alas, it’s more set pictures, and nothing from the actual movie), disaster movies “2012″ and “Knowing”, another one from “Push”, “Race to Witch Mountain”, and the animated “Monsters vs. Aliens”. Plus, yet another image from Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster’s “Pandorum”. Enjoy.

New Knowing Trailer Reveals Whisper People

I have to admit, I wasn’t all that captivated by the previous “Knowing” trailer, despite Alex Proyas’ name attached as director, and the lovely Rose Byrne playing a love interest. Nicolas Cage — eh. But this latest trailer for “Knowing” has my interest sufficiently piqued, especially since it introduces a new aspect of the storyline, featuring mysterious figures called “whisper people” that may or may not have something to do with the disasters that were predicted by a little girl in elementary school many years ago, and are now coming true.

Knowing Teaser Trailer is About Numbers or Something

The boys over at Aint-it-Cool-News.com has premiered a new spanking teaser poster for Alex Proyas’ upcoming sci-fi thriller “Knowing”. Yes, while the poster probably has too much of a “War of the Worlds” vibe about it, it’s still a pretty cool looking teaser poster. The film stars Nicolas Cage (which you might have guessed by his huge name on top of the marquee) and Rose Byrne as two people who must stop an impending disaster that has been foretold decades in advance.

Trailer for Alex Proyas’ Knowing

My enthusiasm for Alex Proyas’ “Knowing” didn’t exactly leap up there after seeing this first trailer for his upcoming movie “Knowing”, starring Nicolas Cage as a teacher who discovers that predictions made 50 years ago are coming true; worst, the predictions eventually run out, then what happens? The trailer is good, the kind of slick stuff Hollywood does well, and it certainly doesn’t showcase the brilliance that Alex Proyas showcased in “The Crow” and “Dark City”. Having said that, I’m still holding out hope that he’ll one day return to such greatness, and maybe “Knowing” is a step in the right direction. I don’t see it in the trailer, alas, but who knows, Cage never does good trailers, so that may be it…

First Images from Alex Proyas’ Knowing

Nicolas Cage in Knowing (2008) Movie ImageIt’s the end of the world in Alex Proyas’ latest, “Knowing”, and only Nicolas Cage and his ability to run really fast through crowds of confused people can save us all! And oh yeah, along the way he drags Rose Byrne to help out with all the legwork. Or at least, that’s what it seems like in these first images from Proyas’ disaster movie “Knowing”, posted over at USA Today as part of their apocalyptic movie article.

Poster and Synopsis for Alex Proyas’ Knowing

I have to admit: Alex Proyas’ movie career hasn’t exactly gone as I had expected. He’s done some good sci-fi movies in the past (and “The Crow” was pretty good, too), like “Dark City” and “I, Robot”, but he’s never really broken through since “Dark City”. I mean, “I, Robot” was good entertaining fun, but it wasn’t GREAT, not in the sense that “Dark City” was GREAT. Hopefully his latest, “Knowing”, will be much better. Besides a first look at the teaser poster (to your left, which unfortunately is as big as it comes at the moment), there’s a full synopsis for the movie below.

Plot: A teacher (Nicolas Cage) opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son’s elementary school; in it are some chilling predictions — some that have already occurred and others that are about to — that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold. With the help of the granddaughter (Rose Byrne) of the woman who wrote the predictions, the teacher tries to avert impending disasters.

Rose Byrne Joins Alex Proyas’ Knowing

Rose ByrneAlex Proyas’ “Knowing” is something better everytime I hear about it. Then again, we are talking about Alex Proyas here, and since “Dark City”, I’ve been a fan of this guy and pretty much everything he’s done. Okay, so maybe I didn’t quite “get” the garage band indie movie “Garage Days”, but everything else has been pretty darn good. Proyas’ latest is “Knowing”, and besides star Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne has now signed on to play the female lead.
