Wait, what? Wasn’t this new Knight Rider show already a reboot of the ’80s original? Yes, but they’re going to reboot the reboot anyway. You read that correctly: NBC and new show runner Gary Scott Thompson has decided to reboot the reboot TV show. He’ll accomplish this task by getting rid of the show’s current “terrorist of the week” formula and taking the main character (played by Justin Bruening) and a few colleagues, not to mention the talking car KITT, back on the road to help more “regular” people ala the ’80s show with David Hasselhoff. As a result, three castmembers have been jettisoned for the show’s second half, including Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison.
From THR:
“It’s a reboot,” “Knight” executive producer/showrunner Gary Scott Thompson said. “We’re moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen.”

With NBC having announced that the new Knight Rider has gotten a full season order, here’s your promotional images for the show’s cast. I know, just a little bit late, but better than never, right? I’m still not a fan of the show quite yet, although I admit that it has some potential, especially with its solidly hot cast. Really, who knew scientists looked as good as Deanna Russo? On TV, anyway. Featuring Justin Bruening, Deanna Russo, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Bruce Davison, Paul Campbell, Yancey Arias, and Smith Cho.
Knight Rider airs Wednesdays on NBC.

Fans of KITT and company’s latest reincarnation on TV rejoice: NBC has given your show about a talking car with turbo boosting options a full season order, which means even if the show doesn’t return for a second season, you’ll have a full first season to chew on. I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of the show when it returned from its TV movie premiere as a regular series, but judging by the ratings for the show, people still aren’t very sure about it. But hey, maybe the show will grow on me.
More:
NBC has given a full-season order to “Knight Rider.”
Decision late Monday repped the Peacock’s first back nine pickup this season. Sister Universal Media Studios is the producer.
“Knight Rider’s” pickup wasn’t a foregone conclusion. An update of the famed 1980s series, the new “Knight Rider” began as a highly-rated TV movie last season, but hasn’t fared as well since returning as a regular series.

I have to admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the original Knight Rider TV show, but I did give the recent reincarnation a chance when it first surfaced earlier this year. I also tuned in for the premiere of the ongoing TV show, but tuned out about 30 or so minutes later. The whole thing just looked … cheesy. What can I say? Even the treat of seeing the gorgeous Deanna Russo in her undies for about 10 minutes of the pilot didn’t do anything for the show’s overall quality. The backstory for the lead character also came across as incredibly cliche, and then they introduced some supposedly badass girl with a past to the hero, and … well, that’s pretty much when I tuned out of the pilot and haven’t come back since.
Apparently I wasn’t the only one. Ratings for the new show haven’t exactly been great, but that’s not going to stop NBC from ordering four more [...]

They’ve put the entire first episode of the regular series online ahead of the show’s September 24th debut, and you can watch it right now, right here (scroll down to the video below). See? Who says there’s nothing good on TV. Or, er, online right now.

NBC has released the official descriptions for the first three episodes of their Knight Rider relaunch. Word is the show has gone through a number of changes, which includes replacing the show’s original showrunner with Gary Scott Thompson (of Las Vegas fame). From the promos I’ve seen of the show, it also seems to have a glossier new look that is promising more sex appeal and action, which means fans of Deanna Russo, the show’s leading lady, will be getting more Deanna than previously. That won’t be hard to do; all she did in the 2-hour pilot was sit in a car or run around providing boring exposition.
Color me excited for this new take. Knight Rider SHOULD be glossy, sexy, and yes, empty of “substance”. Is that so wrong? We’re talking about a show about a talking car, for God’s sake. I don’t want Battlestar Galactica; I just want, well, Knight Rider.

Apparently when TV guy Gary Scott Thompson was hired to take over the reins of NBC’s upcoming Knight Rider revamp TV show, he read a lot of online reviews that mentioned the absence of the new KITT pulling out his turbo boot. Wow, really? I don’t think I even noticed there was no turbo boost in my review of the 2-hour backdoor pilot. But then again, I’m not the biggest fan of the old ’80s show, so I probably didn’t realize it wasn’t in the new version. Anyways, according to Thompson, there will be plenty of turbo boosting going on in the new Knight Rider with him in charge. Plus action. And a new cast.
Thompson tells Sci Fi Wire about his new take on the same old subject:
The main thing fans missed in the telemovie? “No turbo-boost,” Thompson said immediately. “No turbo-boost. That was a million times: No turbo-boost.” He added that, in addition to people griping about using a [...]

I said it two months ago that after its better-than-expected performance in the ratings when it premiered with a two-hour movie, that the new Knight Rider was practically guaranteed a “go to series” order. Now NBC has made it official, announcing that they have greenlit the show about a talking car (voiced by Val Kilmer, of all people) for a full season. This is good news for fans who likes talking cars and miss the action shows from the ’80s, but not necessarily good news if you wanted quality programming from your TV. Then again, as long as it’s not yet another reality TV show, whose complaining?
More:
Many of the series in contention for the Peacock lineup boast a fantasy or action element, including one show just added to NBC’s 2008-09 roster: “Knight Rider,” the Doug Liman-produced actioner whose two-hour backdoor pilot snagged solid ratings in February.
I have to admit, while I enjoyed the Knight Rider TV movie, I didn’t exactly fall in love with it. Not that it matters, because the movie’s 2-hour premiere on Sunday gave NBC a major boost, scoring high ratings and beating its competitors by a healthy margin, and all but guaranteeing that the show will return as a regular series on NBC later this year.
More:
But the primetime victor was “Knight Rider” (12.7 million, 5.0 rating/12 share in adults 18-49). The remake of the ’80s TV series was the best 18-49 rating for a TV movie since March 2005’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” It ran over everything in its path at10 p.m., including the CBS premiere of Showtime’s “Dexter” and a new episode of “Brothers & Sisters.” “Knight Rider” is considered to be a backdoor pilot. With numbers like that, it’s also likely a shoo-in to return as a series in the fall.

The 2008 TV movie “Knight Rider”, an update of the classic ’80s TV show starring David Hasselhoff and his super talking car, is considered a “back door pilot” — that is, NBC wants to see how its return to the airwaves is received before they commit to a potentially expensive TV series. The new series stars Justin Bruening as Mike Traceur, a former Army Ranger who kinda inherits the talking supercar, this time a Ford Shelby Mustang voiced by Val Kilmer, the replacement voice who infamously took over for Will Arnett after the latter was pulled because of his ties to GM, a rival of Ford’s.
When we first meet up with Mike Traceur, he’s in bed with two lovely women, just as his “investors” (our hero has a bit of a gambling problem) pounds on the door looking for their return on investment.
KITT is back in a new Knight Rider TV series, which will premiere as a two-hour movie Sunday night, February 17, 2008. The movie is what people are calling a “back door” pilot — which basically means that if the movie scores well in the ratings, a TV series won’t be far behind. I’m guessing that this series is a Go anyway, because let’s face it, NBC needs another hit, and this show has hit written all over it. Here is our preview of Knight Rider.
As the original story resumes, the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body — thanks to its creator’s work and nanotechnology — is capable of actually shifting shape and color. The new Knight Rider premieres as a 2-hour movie (or “back door pilot” as it’s being called) on February 17, 2008 on NBC. Mike Tracer, the knew Michael Knight, is a pretty good brawler. Check out Clip 4 as he goes mano-a-mano with a thug in a cramped hallway.

The Knight Rider backdoor pilot (set to premiere in less than two weeks on NBC) originally had Will Arnett as the voice of supercar KITT — that is, until car company GM found out that KITT was a Ford Mustang, and asked Arnett to pulled out. Being that voicing GM commercials is more lucrative than voicing a pilot for a possible TV show (I’m guessing, of course), Arnett agreed. Enter Val Kilmer, the new voice of KITT.
More:
For the better part of a decade, Arnett has done voice-over work for General Motors — as the voice of GMC Trucks. NBC’s new “Knight,” however, is “played” by a Ford Mustang.
What’s more, Ford isn’t simply providing cars for “Knight Rider.” It’s taking an active role in the marketing and branding of the pic, a backdoor pilot for a possible series. Ford’s logo even appears all over NBC’s on-air promos for the pic.
Not surprisingly, when GM found out about the Ford connection, it asked [...]

It took a while, but finally, promo images from the upcoming Knight Rider TV series have finally hit the net. These images showed up on io9, and shows the new lead, Justin Bruening as Mike Tracer attending some kind of funeral. Geez, I hope it’s not going to be a downer series. We got transforming cars here, folks!
Also present in the promo images are David Hasselfhoff (playing his old Michael Knight character, we presume), the female lead Deanna Russo, and Bruce Davison and Sidney Poitier, who, I guessing, runs the foundation that recruits Bruening’s character to fight crime — and other things.
No signs of KITT, though. Speaking of the new Knight Rider, you can watch behind-the-scenes video of the show here.

Justin Bruening, the star of the new Knight Rider TV series, says his show has a little bit of “Transformers” in it, in that the new Kitt can morph “into different colors and actually morphs into an attack mode”. He goes on: “It grows a spoiler and becomes more aerodynamic than a stock Shelby Cobra.”
More:
The show is a sequel to the 1980s TV classic that made a star of David Hasselhoff and featured a souped-up Pontiac Trans Am. Bruening plays Mike Tracer, a former Army Ranger and Iraq War vet who has fallen on hard times when he’s called to help out Sarah Graiman (Deanna Russo), the daughter of Charles Graiman (Bruce Davison), inventor of K.I.T.T., who has gone missing. Sydney Tamiia Poitier stars as an FBI agent. Hasselhoff has a cameo as Michael Knight, the original Knight Rider

This is a pretty great 30-second spot for the new Knight Rider TV series. It shows the new Kitt on the street, and you hear a voice telling you all the usual stuff you’ll find in a fully loaded car. But then the voiceover starts adding things like access to military satellites and nanotechnology and you know you’re watching a Knight Rider commercial.
Mike Tracer a bitter former Army Ranger and failed race car driver, just got a new lease on life, neither he cares for or wants this chance to make up for his past failings. FLAG wants a new driver, but he is hesitant to join this mysterious group and doubts this super car or he can make a difference. He’s got problems, he’s in debt and people want to kill him. The choice is all too obvious for him and the Knight Industries Three Thousand (K.I.T.T).
I gotta get met one of this…

Say what you will about the upcoming Knight Rider reboot, but I’m kind of looking forward to it. So sue me, but I have a sort of affinity for the old show, although I can’t say as I’m a big fan of it, because I’ve only watched it on and off. Still, I’d like to see what they would do with a reboot of sorts, which NBC is planning.
So what’s it about?
