Did you missed the TV spots for “Battleship”, “John Carter”, and other sci-fi films during the Super Bowl this Sunday? Hey, I can see that happening. What with the game going on, the running to the bathrooms between punts, the eating your brains out, the getting all bloated from all the eating and sitting on the coach and then having to run to the bathroom. It’s a vicious cycle, to be sure. Thankfully for you, we have those TV spots below.
Easily the best trailer for “John Carter” yet. It doesn’t only have a ton of new footage stuffed into its minute-long running time, but it’s a lot lighter, fluffier, and goofier trailer. Happier and more fun, if you will. That’s what I want in my sci-fi movies about guys transported to strange alien worlds with four-armed dudes carrying swords, and this trailer delivers that. Good stuff.
Yes, it’s a teaser trailer for the trailer that’s coming during the Super Bowl. What the hell? I ain’t got nuthin’ to do and you probably don’t, either, or else you wouldn’t be reading this totally lame and pointless writing that I’m typing right now. Yes, right NOW. So go on, watch the 20-second teaser, you know you want to.
You gotta figure that given the Japanese’s love for all things sci-fi, “Battleship” and “John Carter” should do reasonably well in that country. The studio probably realizes that, too, because here are two specially made Japanese trailers for the two upcoming sci-fi films.

Lots of sci-fi posters this week, probably because the studios are trying to get all their stuff out there before the Holidays and beat the Christmas break rush. (Got all your gift shopping done yet? No? Get to it, then!)
Ugh. Still can’t believe they removed the “of Mars” part from “John Carter of Mars”. Whatever, Disney. Check out three banner posters from the Andrew Stanton-directed film, opening March 9, 2012.
Or, well, “John Carter” as we should start calling it now, as the whole “of Mars” part seems to have been officially dropped from the movie title altogether. I think that’s kind of idiotic myself, but whatever, I’m not some highly-paid Hollywood studio bigwig. What do I know. Anyways, here’s the new, much better looking trailer for “John Carter”, which made its premiere on, of all places, ABC News. The better, official version should pop up online later this week or thereabouts.
Haven’t heard a whole lot from “John Carter of Mars” since we got that trailer over five months ago. Haven’t seen a single new image or really heard much of anything about it since. Well, no longer. EW has premiered a new image from the movie, featuring Taylor Kitsch as John Carter battling himself a big ol furry creature — while chained up, no less.
Or “John Carter”, as it’s apparently just being called now. Check out your first (surprisingly very muted) teaser trailer for the movie below. I don’t know, I guess I expected more “grandness”…

Two sci-fi movies have gotten new titles — or, shorten versions of old titles, anyway.
It looks like John Carter’s Mars fighting days won’t be ready for the big screen by next year. Instead, Walt Disney has scheduled the Andrew Stanton-directed sci-fi actioner for June 8, 2012. The film will be released in Disney Digital 3D.
Bryan Cranston plays a father and chemistry teacher that turns to cooking meth to support his family when he receives what he thinks is a terminal cancer diagnosis in AMC’s Breaking Bad, a show that continues to be just about the best thing on television. Are you watching it? Good.
