An Update on Those Back-to-Back Independence Day Sequels

So yeah, they might really happen after all. Vulture reports that the studio is very keen on making the sequels back-to-back, and while the two films will form a single coherent story, they can also be viewed as stand-alone films. Not sure how that’s going to work, but that’s what they’re saying.

More Independence Day Sequel Talk, Will Smith as Obama

Remember when we didn’t have a black President? Back then, it was considered “cutting edge” casting black actors as the President in movies and TV shows. Now that we actually have a black President in real life, shouldn’t we move on? Here’s a thought: I’d like to see an Asian President. You never see an Asian President on TV or in the movies. Just a thought, Hollywood — get with the times.

Will Smith Back for Independence Day Sequels?

And not just one measly sequel, too, but two. Or at least that’s the word from IESB, who says the deal is all but done for Smith to come back to one of the first movies that made him a bankable star, presumably as fighter jock Captain Steven Hiller, the character he played in the first one.

Roland Emmerich Wants Double The Independence Day Sequel Fun

Roland Emmerich Posits the End of the World in 2012I am one Sci-Fi fan that never tires of films where the aliens come down to Mother Earth and think that we humans will be as easy to conquer as butter, only to see us rise up and deliver a serious lesson in smackdown.

Roland Emmerich Blames Fox, George W. Bush for the Lack of an Independence Day 2

German director Roland Emmerich, aka the man who made death porn on a global scale (aka disaster films) popular again, blames the lack of a sequel to “Independence Day” on the studio’s unwillingness to pay Will Smith his due. And oh yeah, that guy George W. Bush is also to blame, too. In a roundtable interview with critics, Emmerich tells CinemaBlend that the reason why he hasn’t been enthusiastic about making an “ID4″ earlier is that Bush was in office at the time and, apparently, he didn’t want to make a movie about a heroic President rallying the world against evil alien invaders.

5 Guys Who Can Replace Will Smith in ID4 2

IndependenceDayA few days ago, Roland Emmerich announced that he has a “really good story” for Independence Day 2, a project mentioned years ago that has not really gained any steam until recently. A lot of excitement was generated by Emmerich with this new script, though there is one catch: Will Smith is considered a “gross player”, and Emmerich won’t do the movie without him. Fox is currently reluctant to pay so much money for superstar Will Smith – who was much less popular when the original movie was made in 1996. But could the movie work without it’s star? Here are five actors who could potentially replace Smith in Independence Day 2.

Dean Devlin Talks Possible Stargate and Independence Day Sequels

While out doing the interview rounds for his new TNT TV show Leverage (check it out, it’s actually pretty decent), producer/writer Dean Devlin was asked about the future (if any) of two of his biggest hits, “Independence Day” (about an alien invasion) and “Stargate” (which was also kinda about an alien invasion). According to Devlin, while he and director Roland Emmerich (who directed both films) have some ideas for a Stargate sequel, it might not happen soon.
