With the networks officially kicking off their upfront presentations this month, we’ve now gotten official (and in some cases, semi-official) confirmations about which shows are coming back, which ones are gone, and what new offerings will be available to the genre fans out there. The schedule for the upfronts are: FOX’s begins today, followed by ABC on Tuesday, and CBS on Wednesday. NBC already did theirs earlier this month.
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED WHEN APPROPRIATE
NBC:
It was recently confirmed that Chuck will return for a third, albeit shorter season (more info here), while Heroes will also be back for a fourth season. Meanwhile, the fantasy/parallel Earth show Kings is dead in the water, and so is the new Knight Rider despite a lot of tinkering. The net’s supernatural show Medium is also gone from the network, but didn’t stay gone long. It’s now at CBS.
New additions include the mind-reading The Listener and the post-apocalyptic Day One.
FOX:
The surprise news this weekend was [...]

As reported here and elsewhere, we already suspected that FOX would be renewing Fringe for a second season, but it took them today to make it official. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the J.J. Abrams sci-fi show will be returning for a second season with a full 22-episode order. Heroes on NBC, meanwhile, has also officially been renewed for a fourth season, but may return with as few as 18-20 episodes this time around. Fans of Chuck, on the other hand, will have to wait a little longer for official word that their spy show is coming back for a third season. Or not.
For some strange reason, NBC still refuses to say either way if Chuck will be back for another season. TV Guide recently went to get some answers from the network’s co-chair Ben Silverman, who wouldn’t say either way, but did offer up this:
“It could shake out in some way to be a similar lineup, or maybe Chuck [...]

You may or may not have heard, but there are rumblings aplenty about the fate of NBC’s superhero show Heroes. The whole crisis seems to stem from a very innocent twitter by one of the show’s stars, Greg Grunberg, but it sure set off a firestorm. Everyone and their momma who never liked the show in the first place have begun pontificating the show’s end. Well guess what, guys, screw you. The show is coming back for a fourth season. Probably.
Via HeroesTheSeries.com:
Everyone can now relax, because during a luncheon with the press, NBC President Angela Bromstad reaffirms her commitment to Heroes, and says that the network plans to bring the show back for a fourth season regardless of the ratings for Season 3.
Bromstad cites the show’s strong international fanbase, as well as wanting another show to introduce fans to Jesse Alexander’s post-apocalyptic Day One when it debuts later this year. Also, the show does well in the important adults 18-49 [...]

Curmudgeon alert. Heroes is a show I have a rather intense love/hate relationship with. I want to be a total fanboy but unfortunately, various evil elements in writing and production are conspiring to make me throw (soft) objects at the big screen. Last night was no exception.
Once again we return to the not so vaguely Xmen themed story of the Heroes hunted. They are dangerous and must be stopped. Senator Man and secret flyer Nathan just has the best interests of his fellow superhumans at heart while The Hunter just wants to get medieval.
We learn than Mohinder knew of the hunt early when HRG stalked him and asked for his help. Mohinder is not the trusting sort and failed to inform the rest of the Heroes of the coming bad guys. After a good old fashioned Mind Ream by Parkman, we learn that HRG is basically, the morally Gray Man we always thought he was. Which brings me to [...]

NBC has released their schedule of shows they expect back for next season — they include the third season of Heroes, the second season of which was shortened because of the writer’s strike, and the second season of the new series Chuck. The Heroes renewal is no surprise, but Chuck was a little uncertain, since the show fell in the ratings after a strong start.
Chuck will begin its second year:
When a twenty-something computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, his former college friend turned CIA recruits him as a secret agent, all while keeping him out of evil hands.
Heroes will be entering its third year:
They thought they were like everyone else… until they woke with incredible abilities.

Despite sagging ratings and what is almost universally considered a “sophmore slump”, NBC’s Heroes TV show lead in the ratings for 2007 among science-fiction/fantasy themed TV shows. Coming in second was Pushing Daisies, followed by the lackluster Bionic Woman and CBS’ vampire show Moonlight, which after a strong start, has fallen way below average in the ratings.
More:
The average for “Heroes” remained a ratings point and a half below its second season premiere, which was an 8.1/12 on Week 1 of the season. “Pushing Daisies” had premiered a week later, picking up a higher 8.3/14. However, its average is now two ratings point off from its series high, mostly in part to an uncharacteristic 4.7/8 clocked in the 10th week (that would later rebound in the 11th and 12th weeks, which were not included in this average).
“Bionic Woman” might be in ratings trouble right now, but the first 10 weeks gave it enough viewers to finish third among genre shows [...]
