The guys from The Metal Den says they have the first poster art for the upcoming “Heavy Metal” movie, drawn by artist Raymond Swanland. It looks very heavy. And metal. Heavy metal-ish, if you will. Fincher and James Cameron are going to be Co-Executive Producers on the film. The movie will be split into segments. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film. The Metal Den says the movie is due out in 2010, but IMDB.com has the more practical 2012 as a possible release date.

Kevin Eastman’s brand new version of the 1981 film version of “Heavy Metal” already had a crazy group of talents set to direct segments based on the Sci-Fi comic featuring, as I best remember, awesome Sci-Fi boobage. Those ready to direct include Zack Snyder (Watchmen), David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, Ben Button), Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda), and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) Add to this list Mr. James Cameron, who will co-exec produce and also direct a segment. Since James is now pretty much all 3D, all the time, look for the whole movie to be in lovely digital 3D. I recently watched the 1981 film version again and aside from the pretty good stories and sexy space girls, the animation really sucked. Still, it is near and dear to my heart for the excellent soundtrack that I still play, including the greatest Sci-Fi song ever written in my opinion, True Companion by Donald Fagen. I have [...]

Geez, remember the first “Heavy Metal” movie in 1981? Or the sorta sequel in 2000 starring Julie Strain? Well forgot those, because they’re making another “Heavy Metal”, to be based on the ’70s sci-fi fantasy magazine of the same name. This latest “Metal” animated movie has some big guns behind it, too — namely director David Fincher, who along with 8 (or 9, they still haven’t settled on the total yet) other filmmakers, will be contributing individual segments to the movie, to be produced by Fincher, Kevin Eastman, and Tim Miller. Best news? They’re looking at an R-rated movie. More: “Heavy Metal” will be stamped by the erotic and violent storylines and images that remain the trademark of a magazine that debuted in the U.S. in 1977. The mag introduced the works of American artists and writers such as Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison and H.R. Giger. The film will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which [...]
