I’ve been watching the SyFy Channel’s “Ghost Hunters” TV show on and off for the last six years or so, and honestly, I can’t tell you with any certainty if they’ve ever caught evidence of an actual, honest-to-goodness ghost. A lot of stuff seems to happen in almost every episode, but eh, I’ve always considered it more entertainment than actual “reality”. Anyways, the show continues to be one of the SyFy Channel’s more popular offerings, so it’s a no-brainer that the cable network has renewed the show for a seventh season and a 25 episode order. The show has proven so popular it’s already spun off two other shows — “Ghost Hunters International’ and “Ghost Hunters Academy”. After six years on the air, “Ghost Hunters” now ranks as the longest-running original series on the SyFy Channel (previous Sci Fi Channel).

To be honest with you, I’m kind of shocked that the Sci Fi Channel’s Ghost Hunters has gotten so big as it has. Mind you, I’ve always loved the show from the very beginning, even during its “awkward” stage, which every show has in the beginning. The show has really hit its strides now, and has spun off two spin-offs, an International version and an upcoming College-based version. So what about the original? Well, TV Guide’s InFANity show went behind the scenes to get the skinny on how the show started (a New York Times article) and answers the questions: Are they really still plumbers by day, ghost hunters by now? Are Steve’s tattoos real? Is Kris really hot in person?

They’re not just plumbers, they’re also ghost hunters! Okay, I have to admit, that premise sold me on the Sci Fi Channel’s Ghost Hunters TV show when it first premiered a few years back. On the show, two plumbers name Jay and Grant go to supposedly haunted locales and try to catch ghosts (well actually, they don’t “catch” them, they pretty much just record them on audio and video recorders and show it to the home owners) with a small team of dedicated flunkies — er, I mean, assistants. It’s a pretty entertaining show, even if, undoubtedly, 90% of the “atmosphere” is manufactured in post. The show proved so popular that it is now launching a second spin-off show, College Edition. More: Tentatively titled “Ghost Hunters: College Edition,” the show features a group of students going around the country to seek out paranormal activity. The students will be guided by an experienced ghost investigator. Producers have not determined if any [...]
