Ratings schmatings. Who needs a lot of viewers? FOX certainly doesn’t, which may come as a surprise to a heck of a lot of people. Or maybe FOX realizes “Fringe” is already three seasons in, and with another full season, it could hike up its number of episodes toward that magical 100 episodes that most shows need to clean up in syndication. Regardless of the reasons, it’s official: FOX has renewed “Fringe” for the a full fourth season pick-up. The good news comes from EW: The drama has been picked up for a fourth season. The cat was let out of the bag this afternoon when J.H. Wyman, an executive producer on the Fox drama, tweeted this to fans: “Fringe was picked up!!!! Thanks Fringedom!” Ratings for the show has been falling every week. Some are blaming the decline in viewership on the show’s increasingly convoluted storylines, but of course, moving the show to a new timeslot before the year [...]

Ah, Fridays. It hasn’t exactly been kind to genre TV. Especially genre shows from FOX. Hell, the last show that did well in the time slot was the “X-Files”, and that was what, a gazillion years ago? Basically, getting moved to Fridays usually meant FOX didn’t give a flying flip about your show anymore, and is just looking for an excuse (i.e. low ratings) to bury you once and for all (re: cancellation). So when FOX announced that “Fringe” would be moving to Fridays … well, you can sorta guess what kind of fan fervor that caused. But as it turns out, Fridays may not be the death slot it used to be, because the ratings are in, and surprise surprise, “Fringe” did pretty darn good in its first Friday night airing. In fact, the show’s first Friday episode (titled, cheekily enough, “The Firefly” (aka the last great genre show that FOX canceled) and guest starring “Back of the Future’s” [...]

Says Warner Bros. TV: BURBANK, Calif. (July 12, 2010) – Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) and TV Guide Magazine have cooked up something special for fans at this year’s Comic-Con: a special edition of the magazine devoted solely to programming from the Studio, with four collectible covers featuring the hit television series “The Big Bang Theory,” “Fringe,” “Smallville” and “The Vampire Diaries.” WBTVG will distribute copies of the magazine throughout the five days of Comic-Con (including Preview Night) exclusively at the Warner Bros. booth, #4545, on the convention floor. The special issue will then go on sale nationally to the public on newsstands beginning Monday, July 26. In addition to the four collectible covers and features on those series, the 88-page special issue is stuffed with sections about the following programs: * Warner Bros. Television’s (WBTV) continuing series “Chuck,” “Human Target,” “Supernatural” and “V,” WBTV’s new action hour “Nikita” and HBO’s “True Blood” * Family programming, including Warner Horizon Television’s [...]

Well looky here — FOX seems to have some honest to goodness faith in a sci-fi show for once, because the network has renewed the J.J. Abrams-produced “Fringe” for a third season, despite the show suffering some ratings decline after its recent move to a new timeslot. Usually genre shows, especially sci-fi, don’t fare very well on FOX, but to get a second season, much less a third one? That’s practically unheard of over at FOX post-”X-Files”. “Fringe”, for the uninitiated, stars Anna Torv as a female FBI agent who is forced to work with an institutionalized scientist (John Noble) and his son, played by former “Dawson’s Creek” paddler Joshua Jackson, in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena. Basically, weird and kooky stuff happens, kinda like “The X-Files”, but without the fantastic creative use of character last names.

Fans of The Nimoy will know that tonight’s episode of “Fringe” is a must see. Tonight we get some answers about what happened to Olivia over there on Earth B, where the Two Towers still stand. “Fringe” is better this year and John Noble is so good he’s in House territory as one of the best actors on television. The science still gives me an itchy, flaky rash, but sometimes if the acting is really good all this can be overcome. Scifiwire has an interview with Mr. Nimoy where he spills some beans on what William Bell has been up to over there on that alternate Earth and what craziness we can expect to see in the future. Fringe is on tonight at 10:00 Eastern. Thanks Scifiwire Here’s a small taste of the wisdom of Nimoy. What’s Bell’s endgame?
I’m going to give Fox’s “Fringe” another shot this year. It wasn’t until the appearance of his Nimoy-ness that Fringe reappeared on my Sci-Fi radar screen. Also, John Noble is seriously and I mean seriously, a completely awesome actor. Fringe has potential. Multiple universes, Lance Reddick from the Wire, the best cop show in television history and the old school X-files vibration. I just wish the stupid science would go away. Please, make it go away. Here’s the first peek at the first episode of the 2nd season. There’s a new cast member on hand. Meghan Markle plays Sonja the F.B.I. agent who intelligently gets off a splendid line at the expense of Joshua Jackson while they banter at the scene of an accident where one of the drivers has gone poof in an, I’m confident, completely scientifically plausible fashion. Thanks io9. “Fringe” hits the airwaves again Thursday Sept 17th at 9:00 eastern.

As reported here and elsewhere, we already suspected that FOX would be renewing Fringe for a second season, but it took them today to make it official. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the J.J. Abrams sci-fi show will be returning for a second season with a full 22-episode order. Heroes on NBC, meanwhile, has also officially been renewed for a fourth season, but may return with as few as 18-20 episodes this time around. Fans of Chuck, on the other hand, will have to wait a little longer for official word that their spy show is coming back for a third season. Or not. For some strange reason, NBC still refuses to say either way if Chuck will be back for another season. TV Guide recently went to get some answers from the network’s co-chair Ben Silverman, who wouldn’t say either way, but did offer up this: “It could shake out in some way to be a similar lineup, or [...]

No, not that Fringe will be moving its production from New York to Vancouver next year (although the show is supposedly based in Boston, natch), but that there will be a next year. Then again, considering the favorite time slot FOX put Fringe, was there really any doubt they had a soft spot for the show? Here’s a press release Warner Bros. TV sent out regarding the movie (via): “In this challenging and uncertain economic environment, we have made the very difficult decision to move… We did not come to this conclusion easily, but economic and practical imperatives dictated that this decision be made in a timely manner.” There’s a whole thing about tax incentives driving the production away from New York and other politics of unimportance to us.
