No stranger to fiction, the writing duo of Sazama and Sharpless are already in the process of writing vampire flick “Dracula Year Zero” for Universal and are also penning “300″ director Zack Snyder’s “Cobalt 60.” So yeah, these guys seem to know what they’re doing.
Via THR:
“Flash Gordon” centers on the titular young polo player who is kidnapped and taken to the distant planet Mongo, where he and companions Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov embark on a series of adventures fighting a ruler named Ming the Merciless.
Sony’s “Flash,” a live-action film, follows in a 75-year tradition across many media for what began life as Alex Raymond’s comic strip; the property was a movie serial in the 1930s, [...]

Apparently the failure of Sci Fi Channel’s recent television version of Flash Gordon hasn’t dulled Columbia Pictures’ enthusiasm for a big-screen movie version, because they’re currently in early negotiations to nab the character’s movie rights. If they do get their way — and really, why wouldn’t they? — Columbia plans on delivering the movie to Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) to direct, with Neal Moritz producing.
